Thank you very much for your input. Quick reaction from military personnel saved his life. We most limit the number of Muslim people coming into Ireland. Its a administrative issue that needs to be sorted. There is a connection to this and other stabbings of late in other countries even during mass which can't be blamed on the internet. There most be actively recruiting young Muslim people through other forms including personal contacts either by within the Muslim community itself. We have gradually helped the Muslim people to intergrate within the Irish community and also allowed Imans to be part of our ceremonies also resonedly in our annual ceremonies to commerate Irish soldiers who have died in conflicts around the world on peace support missions ect.

I live about a half mile from Renmore Barracks and have attended Mass at the adjacent church, celebrated by Fr Murphy. He is very well liked as he is a very holy, sincere and affable man. He was lucky he was driving as the car restricted the attacker's access to him. The thug clung to Fr Murphys car as he drove through the gate but he was aided and protected by soldiers. The police are investigating all angles. The whole community is in utter shock and all of us are thinking of and praying for Fr Murphy whom I actually know.

@@verali164the chaplain was stopped outside the gate in his own car and wearing civilian clothing, he had the drivers window down and his arm was resting on the door ledge as he waited on the Barracks gate to be opened, the assailant was waiting at the side for a target to appear and unfortunately Father Murphy was the person to appear, he wasn’t targeted because he’s a chaplain, he was targeted because he’s a member of the Defence Forces, the assailant was heard to shout comments about the Defence forces role in Mali.

Paul is one of the nicest human beings anyone would have the pleasure of meeting. I served in that barracks and he was always genuinely happy to meet people, talk to people, and counsel people when needed. How any human being would draw a weapon or have an intent to harm that man is beyond belief. By this attack, not only was our army outrightly attacked, but also our faith, and a good man was injured because of it. I really, truly hope something is done to prevent further occurrences of these actions on our armed forces and civilians.

Which, from the sounds of things, are the ones who assisted the Padre. Obviously I don’t know exactly who assisted or the exact details, but I’d imagine they would be best situated to respond.
