I think Ghana is light years ahead of most African countries because they have brothers and sisters who have come there from the US, Caribbean and teamed up with Ghanaians and opened up schools that teaches Black Power history and they tend to know a little bit more about how the world works. I think it'll get better their too because you're beginning to get more black people from the US the Caribbean and the UK moving to the Gambia Senegal area now.

I'll pay someone to come over to homeschool my kids, I'll use the k12 online school program. We don't need to open our own schools yet, but we definitely need a after school program system to teach our kids the true about us, 3 hrs every day is good enough for the after school program.

Again, the idea is to collectively have a schooling mechanism in place that prioritizes teaching our kids their own history and culture and giving them the skills of STEM and communication as well as critical thinking!!! The problem is when the ideas of home schooling and self-directed learning get kicked around, we as black parents get overwhelmed thinking we gotta do it all. Or have to be experts in ALL of these subjects. When in reality, as a community of parents (households) we can all share in the responsibilities.

Schooling is an interesting area. I am an educator and I am leaning towards stepping away from the field. If I was to start a school abroad I would use the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks as a foundation, swap out the History/Social Studies and Reading components and strongly integrate trades components into it as a way to build skills that the country needs. Desk building, construction, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, Recycling, Art, Design, Agriculture, Horticulture, Textiles, Health and manufacturing are the best ways to root learners in Math and Science. I recommend you get your feet wet teaching Business at the University, find a way to offer something great and then start the school.

Homeschooling is rewarding for all. I'm so pleased to hear that in the future you're looking forward to teaching the true history to the children/community at Bag. We need to teach our children to be self empowered. I've been in the education system in America and it only teaching continuous enslavement.

Greetings Fambolie 🙏🏿 Hoping ALL is WELL 💪🏿 I'm in agreement with most of what you said because my children went to the same school you're referring to. Their primary school was better organised than the high school. Maybe because the owner is based at the primary school 🤔. I was mainly happy with the first school and wrongly assumed the high school would offer the same. Once my children joined the high school I deregistered them within the first term and paid for private tuition with selected subject teachers from the sed school where I had more control over what they were being taught and when in our home. The fees you mentioned must have been for the term because I paid about £1000 per child per year. As much as the school offers more on their curriculum than what we've experienced in English schools, the western way of thinking and set up also inspired me to open my own school which WILL offer holistic learning and experiences to carry through life ✊🏿

@tracylynn81014 жыл бұрын
You can most definitely homeschool. School is not mandatory for any child because there’s not such thing as a totally free public school in Gambia. Sadly, there are kids who’s parents can’t afford to send them to school (whether that be the uniform or tuition fees) so there are no truancy laws or officers roaming the streets rounding up the kids not attending school. No one will bother you about homeschooling and you won’t be violating any laws. There’s no one to report to about how you are choosing to homeschool either. It’s similar to Texas which has t Hempstead liberal homeschooling laws where you don’t report any updates about your child to the state if you decide to homeschool.

Because they put international school on the school doesn't means that it is an International School. Try SEBEC International School, you are getting what you paid for. Any good school in Africa will cost more than what you said that you are paying for each child. I wanted to send my American child to an International School in Nigeria, she would have gotten better education in Nigeria than America. I didn't send her to Nigeria because the day school that I will want my child to go would have cost Us over $8000 (US Dollars)a year for her first year of high school in Lagos Nigeria.

African that came to America to school after HIGH school in Africa are the most Educated people in America including me and my 6 siblings. Maybe their kids need special ED. When they send American children to Africa to school,they are always 2 years behind compared to African standard of education. They should have brought a private teacher home to help them with after school teaching to help them get to where they should be.
