Mary you did a masterful presentation and really helped me unpack a lot of confusing information! I have been painting in acrylics and watercolours for years and wanted to purchase a complete set of oils and mediums. That is a lot of money to drop in one purchase. This video, that answers so many questions, will make it much easier for me to go with Gamblin! Thank you!

Great info.!! Should I use the ground on a new Centurion stretched canvas that has 1 coat of clear sealer and tripled primed w/acid free titanium acrylic primer??
@AboveGroundArtSuppliesToronto6 ай бұрын
Hi! Using an oil based primer like Gamblin Oil Ground is technically optional and a matter of personal preference for artists. While it would be fine for you to use Oil Ground on your surface that is already primed with acrylic primer, you are not required to. Most canvases and panels primed with acrylic gesso are very absorbent. Oil paint layers on acrylic gesso can sink in and appear dull. Gamblin Oil Ground may be applied in 1-2 thin coats to an acrylic gesso primed canvas or panel to reduce absorbency and improve colour saturation. Regarding ground application: Gamblin recommends their Ground and Gesso Blades for a perfect and even application with oil ground from edge-to-edge. Spread Oil Ground out thinly with your blade, keeping them thin for an adequate amount of tooth at the surface. Allow the first coat to dry completely before applying the second coat. Dry time of Oil Ground will vary depending on temperature, humidity, and air flow. In general, the first coat should be touch dry in 2-4 days. A second coat may take a little longer to dry, about 3-5 days. Especially cool temperatures and high humidity may add several days’ dry time. We hope this helps! If you have any follow-up questions, feel free to reach out to Mary directly by email at mary@gamblincolors.com.

Yes Gamblin is great but has one major problem - when you order they put the tube straight into the packaging envelope... Then the tubes explode. Wish Gamblin made a box for their products they ship.

do you recommend using a white palette or a medium grey palette? I Am new too color mixing with oils
@AboveGroundArtSuppliesToronto3 ай бұрын
Hi Sylvia, we recommend using a grey palette over a white palette because of many benefits, such as: Grey palettes allows you to better judge values. Since grey is neutral, it provides a middle ground that makes it easier to see how light or dark a colour is. It can also help you differentiate between warm and cool tones. On the grey palette, your colours will appear more true to how they will look on the canvas. We carry Grey Matters Paper Palettes, which are disposable palette sheets. Very convenient. If you prefer something more permanent, we carry New Wave Posh Glass Artist Grey Palettes. You can use a fresh razor blade to clean off the dried paint.

Please Gamblin. There is NO replacement for real lead carbonate pw1 white paint for any serious artist. Please make a lead white so we can also buy our white from you. Thanks

Yes, please. There's only Rublev that I know of. A lot of artists have the same need. And if you're careful, there's no problem with toxicity. Please! Make them!

It is interesting how we all hear, and judge, different voices. I am a boomer, so "vocal fry" has been challenging for me as well. Once I understood my own bias, and made an effort to hang in there with a person who speaks with the vocal fry inflection, I was able to hear and appreciate what they have to say. I was raised in the years where the deep male voice was the voice of authority. Over the years that has changed, and similarly, I need to hang in there with male voices that come of as the sound of "mansplaining". Both voices, on opposite ends of the spectrum, have a lot to teach us. Any older person who punched out of this video because the speaker's younger voice triggered them, would have lost out on valuable information, and that is their loss.
