I’m not a gambler but I do have a substance addiction and it’s so easy for people who don’t have an addiction to say “just stop” but that strong compulsion to get that next fix is so freaking strong, it trumps everything else. Family, friends, finances and your health. Everything 😞

I have the same t-shirt (maybe different colour) lmfao. I play live poker semi seriously but don't ever "gamble" as in pokies\slots, online or any other. No way I could have sat in a game for 10hrs before I got cleaned up. Any addiction are a shit way to live huh? All the best from Canberra. 🇦🇺

Promoting responsible gambling is promoting gambling in general. Making a "moral case" against all gambling used to be something that was done by religious leaders and civic leaders. Now, society and our.institutions no longer talk about the moral degeneracy of all gambling, so that gambling has been so normalized that it is creating so many new gambling addicts. We are in a very dark era. I am just glad that I have been gamble free for 3 years and there are resources like your channel to engage with. Your story and the work you do is very important. Well done.

I believe that society needs to further understand that compulsive gambling has the highest rate of suicide of any addiction. I entered a hospital with a 30% chance to live.

Excellent interview! Thank you for addressing the issues! Lack of federal funding for prevention and treatment is a disgrace. Problem gambling is the fastest growing addiction and yet our government fails to acknowledge the issue. The state I live in doesn’t even have an inpatient treatment program for gambling. 😢

Compulsive gambling is definitely bad. The problem with gamblers is, they are coming from a greedy perspective instead of a perspective where they manage risk and take only 1 single bet instead of parlays. I used to be a compulsive gambler, I didn’t understand the fundamentals of what I was betting. I was taking high risk on a low probability setup without defined risk before hand. Sports gambling is just like day trading stocks. It’s ok to make $5, $10, or even $19 off 1 bet per day , week, or however consistent you are with keeping losses low. You will have better success with 1 bet than just blindly gambling without any rules and picking parlays that won’t give you an edge. People have to become aware and understand this is a business. This is something that shouldn’t be done for fun because fun turns into an addiction instead of an opportunity to make a return on your money over time.

You will have better odds with single bets than parlays, but you will still lose long term. Stop lying to yourself please man, i’m not trying to fight you I know this style of coping swearing it’ll “be different with this system or strat”. It will always end the same. And once a compulsive gambler always a compulsive gambler. Hit my email when you are ready

@@OdaatGamblingAwareness Facts, probably 60% of bettors would be in the green if they “STUCK” to that method but again, the lizard brain is always going to go back to greed. No one is sitting there “strictly” sticking to throwing $100 on -1000 odd straights to profit only $10 daily, although that would be the smart move. You might end up big up in profit from following the responsible straights method and next thing you know, you’re wagering a “little” bit of your bankroll on parlays, might lose a tiny $20 here and there, then next thing you know you’re $500 down trying to chase small loss after small loss. For people who have never juggled gambling addiction I’d say the daily -1000 odds straight is a good method, just like a nonalcoholic having an occasional drink (low risk), but for us addicts it’s best to stay away completely just like an alcoholic not taking a single sip of booze

I really recognize one of the early points, that gambling is especially damaging, financially and subsequently mentally, next to the resulting self-esteem and confidence issues. I experience much less stress even though I still previously sometimes drank a bit too much, but the feeling of guilt and shame was/is nothing compared to the feelings I had when I gambled the night before, and lost, albeit in combination with a handful of beers.

The fact there's no federal funding for gambling addiction is absolutely insane. They make so much money, yet they don't want to lift a finger to help people.

_Caution: accidental essay!_ If we let the meth industry advertise, sales would soar with young men. Gambling is the same imho. Yes, the start of an addict's recovery depends on their addiction of choice, but the long road is the same daily grind. So would you compare gambling more to food addiction? In Australia the gambling industry approve those tiny Public Service announcements after gambling ads to make sure they're 'harmless'. Here's a few: "What's gambling really costing you?"

There ain't nothing you can do about gambling. Unless the US government as a whole becomes strict like South Korea or Muslim nations gambling will only continue to grow. South Korea is very strict on gambling so only very few district have casinos or allow gambling. Even strict Muslim nations that completely bans any form of gambling are starting to allow some form of gambling. In the end it's all about collecting EASY tax revenue. Of course it varies by state and cities also. Utah and Hawaii for example comepletely bans any form of gambling, but the US government as a whole rather have easy money. The only thing that can be done is to have treatment programs and GA for problem gamblers, but gambling will never go away. The EASY MONEY for the government is just too good to throw away.
