Wow. I am incredibly grateful for you posting these videos. I just stumbled upon this tonight. I was 11 when this game was played. I believe this was around the year my hockey interests was in its peaking phase.. I lived for HNIC and hockey generally, during the playoffs I would never miss a game, any game. Come to think of it, I don’t know if I missed a game period. CBC HNIC would broadcast regular season hockey on Saturday only. I don’t recall if there was another network broadcasting at the time locally in my area of Quebec? Seeing this footage, the whole game almost brings a tear to my eye. It’s nostalgia like I’ve never felt before. Damn! I was cheering for the Flyers, they were my favourite team back then. My brother’s was the islanders ;). I so miss that time.. my childhood.. and the players; Clarke, barber, leach- trottier, bossy, Gillis. Wow! Paul holmgren, nystrom, billy smith.. I knew every player on each team and really studied the game, the players. Just a wonderful memory., I just started the game.. the crowd noise is incredible. The announcing, the players, the energy, the intensity, the fire.. truly incredible time in the NHL.. probably the high of the high in terms of the NHL. I can’t wait to watch the rest and then the cbs broadcast (which I never got to see in Canada - my area). After. This feels like home or maybe heaven. Thank you.

If Matthews had played In 1982 he would had scored over 100 goals season beating Gretzky's 92 goal record! In 1980s 95% of the NHL players were from Canada only! Today under 60% of the NHL players from Canada! Much better and tougher league today than goon fighting no talent no skating skills ERA like this poor game Flyers vs Islanders! Don Cherry brainwashed 30 years the people of Canada to hate other countries! This was most brainless boring time In Human kind history! You do not see other hockey countries broadcasters so awful bad boring hate talk like Lunatic Cherry! Brainless Cherry do not draft USA born Matthews! Cherry claiming that the MVP is Goon Ryan Reaves who can fight! The crazy people claiming that Gretzky was the Goat of All sport! Gretzky played only against no talent players from Canada! The Soccer game have 250 milloin players! Gretzky's Canada only 650000 hockey players! That means The Soccer All Stars would beat Gretzky easily 100 game Series 93-7!! Soccer have 4 billion fans around the world! Cricket 2 billion fans! Gretzky was best only In Canada not the whole World! We finnish love hockey More than Canada because In 2016 Junior under 20 years old World championships final game Finland vs Russia drew 2,4 million tv watchers In Finland! Finland only 5,5 million people so half of the population watched that game because we have bigger hockey culture and passion for hockey than Canada! And broadcasters are much better than Hate talker Cherry!! Canada Lost olympics In 2006 and 1998! Sweden won In 2006! Little Sweden have only 65000 hockey players! Canada have Ten times More players than Little Sweden and Canada losing badly!

The flyers are the dumbest team in Hockey, they think they can bully their way to another Cup, not against the Islander's

As head coach, Pat Quinn was totally unlucky when it came to the Stanley Cup Final. Not only did he lose the 1980 series with the Flyers, but failed again 14 years later with the Vancouver Canucks in a classic 7 - game thriller, against the eventual champions, NEW YORK RANGERS in 1994.

CBC cared far more about hockey, than any of the rival U.S. TV Networks at the time. HNIC, covered the ENTIRE BROADCAST from start to finish. However for CBS, the sickening MEMORIAL OPEN golf tournament was 100 times more important, than a historic championship celebration beautifully achieved by an NHL expansion team, that has just won the sacred Stanley Cup. How pathetic.
