Back in the late 70's and early 80's any game between the Islanders vs Flyers, Rangers vs Flyers, and Islanders vs Rangers was worth watching. The teams and their fans hated each other, and the games had an extra element of roughness and hostility that was missing when they met other teams. No matter where they were in the standings, the players tried their best to beat their arch-rival opponents, and the fans always got their money's worth. By the way, national anthem singers should study and emulate Joe Duerr. Dignified, respectful, and fast. It only took him one minute and three seconds.

Rangers beat both the Icelanders and Flyers in 1979 playoffs only to have to play the mighty Habs for the cup. 1980 saw realignment and presto-change-O the Icelanders play the Flyers for the cup?

Yeah, that _Icelander_ team that is based out of _Long Iceland_ never gets enough credit if ya ask me --- not sure why but for some reason most people seem to get them confused with that _Islander_ team that plays out of _Long Island._

@@Hernal03 the isles ranger rivalry is not even close to what it used to be. todays generation of fans are to busy tweeting out pictures on their phones of the craft beer they bought at the game to yell and throw beers at each other. 🤣not to mention they are nowhere as tough as the fans of the 1970s-90s
