Regardless, it truly feels pathetic that these old dudes in charge wanna be accepted by movie stars. Be it the ones running or the ones hosting the show, they want to use and acknowledged by big celebrities. These people are not promoting gaming, they are treating gaming as a subservient art form and entertainment industry. If someone has a long fight with cancer, then we say "they had cancer" not "they had an illness." Yes, during covid, it was harder for any business to operate - how can they legally, quickly and safely develop video games in an office if the Govt has told them they have to stand several feet apart? If the cops can shut their office down and send em all home if they don't comply? If anyone got sick with smth that isn't covid, and they go to a hospital... half the staff of the hospital can't even be at work because of "social distancing". Hospitals were the number 1 place that covid spread, and if you needed serious care, it was less likely you'd be okay because hospitals completely mismanaged themselves, and the Govt rules were obstructive. I guess the point I want to make is that it is infinitely more interesting to hear developers talk than watching another flashy trailer or a celebrity walking on stage to announce a TV-show. Having seen that roundtable conversation made it even more frustrating to watch TGA, because I know how extremely interesting and insightful Sam and Swen are. And then basically seeing them getting shoved off the stage kind of broke my heart.

I'm the not the type who gets emotional about passion and other stuff like that. I don't like my time being wasted for long tangents that could of been be said in two sentences. Not two pages about a bush. What I'm trying to say, I'm open minded to hearing the stories about game development and writing, when they get very emotional about it (Which leads to long paragraphs about something that could of been said in five minutes. Not 10. I don't mind the the personal flavor) . I just black out not that I lack empathy cause it is that I heard the same story about passion and drive from a gamut of people just with a template. Not defending the 'please wrap it up' at the game awards cause that was rude and insulting.

@@TaroAshinathat’s an extremely disingenuous statement. People who are there for the ads don’t “care about video games” they care about entertainment. Obviously video games are a form of entertainment, but caring about the two are not the same thing. Finding games that you love, learning about the world, the lore, and all of the love and effort put into it, and showing appreciation to the people who created it. That is CARING about a game. What you’re saying is the same as if you loved learning to cook, so you watch shows about different recipes, ways to cook things, different things to try out, except your 30 minutes of run time for the show is 8 minutes of show and 22 minutes of KFC ads. @TaroAshina Жыл бұрын
@@prismriot4910 I guess that just boils down to what YOU feel "caring" about a video game means. I guess you can take it to some fake-deep, flowery interpretation of the word care, that is NOT how I am using it. And I don't think that's how the person I replied to is using it. Cause if that's the highbrow, high bar, then most people do NOT go to that extent, and have NEVER gone to that extent. Most the people complaining here don't. If any of these people actually "cared" about these video games, they'd find articles online with WAY more in depth, personal interviews and storytelling about creation and hardships of these games. They wouldn't just wait till some pointless game awards ceremony for a dev to cram word salad down their throat. And then they wouldn't be on here complaining because they would be smart enough to know that this ain't the place to find that shit. Bunch a hot air in my opinion. Josh perfectly understands what a "Game Of The Year" should be. All the people mad that Spider-Man 2 or Tears of the Kingdom didn't win fundamentally misunderstand that a game that is basically just a prettier version of the last game in the series should not win GOTY because it didn't fundamentally alter the gaming landscape by existing. It was just a solid sequel. BG3 won GOTY because it not only was the best made game of the year, but it also introduced a LOT of people to a genre of games that are normally very hard to get into AND set a new standard for what quality we should expect from an AAA game(playing Starfield after my first play-through of BG3 really showed how inferior that game really was, in all ways).

BG3 is AAA game. Larian Studios is AA/AAA quality (around 450 employees) and they used the Early Access to polish BG3 bringing it from AA to AAA quality. It wouldnt surprise me if BG3 had more people involved than Starfield. That said BG3 vs Starfield, they are different games. Starfield should be compared with other Open-World Exploration RPGs like Fallout, Elder Scrolls etc as it is very different than BG3. Just like BG3 should be compared with other CRPGs. However Starfield isnt that great in its respective sub-genre. For my part i think Divinity Original Sin is better crafted than BG3. However the superior 5 edition D&D system elevates BG3. The system has less optionsfor spell/effects-combining, but far better balance than Divinity's system, even if 5 edition is not that great). In the end BG3 won because of the romance options & scenes that are great for streamer material (plus many people long for those Bioware loosely inspired games, after all even a porn studio wanted to get on the Bioware-related sex scenes bandwagon a couple of years ago. This even reached the mainstream news, thats how i learned about it). IMO Solasta does a few things better than BG3 on the gameplay mechanics.

They could easily just do a Winters game fest or somethign equivalent to summer games fest, pure announcements and stuff. It was the moment of Neil Newbon’s life - one of the greatest gaming performances of all time - and they played him off the stage after 1 minute.

Although, for my money, Tim Downie doesn’t get enough credit for Gale. It was necessarily a more understated performance but he perfectly captures in his tone a one gregarious and narcissistic man who has thrown his life away and is now surviving, not living.

To be fair, the fact that he INSTANTLY launched into divisive shit like he did didn't help. Not that I think he should've been played off. The man earned his time, let him talk about whatever he wants.

1:57 andy and leyley is exactly the hypocritical bullshit of gaming "we want women in gaming" >massive indie success completely done by them and them alone "not like that, we meant doing the exact same thing the rest of the men are doing but as a female so we can use you as PR; not producing actual enjoyable content that normies find scary"

Yeah its so disgraceful that goodbye volcano high was nominated while andy and leyley wasnt. One was made by 1 woman alone and blew up out of nowhere while the other was only made to scam the canadian government of inclusivity in gaming support money. I seriously question what people think indie games are at this point.

If the timer was set to 3mins for speeches, no one would have an issue. The reason why it's there in the first place is because of Judge Edit: I will add the GOTY Winner alone should at least be allowed 10mins tho because they are the focus

I was also very much confused wtf this show was. I watched it for the first time this time and it was really underwhelming. They even joked about it in the beginning how they apparently shooed someone off the stage with the exit music playing too soon. And they basically did this every, single, time now. Shame that all the big names in the industry put up with that treatment. I'd love to see them host the game awards with literally not a single big developer showing up.

I never gave a shit about game awards in general. I only trust ratings from fellow gamers. I absolutely agree with you. All the corpo shit in gaming today really makes me sick. I just want to have a fun time but corporate greed destroys gaming right in front of our eyes. And then they have the audacity to stand there on stage and talk about how great they are and how proud and all that crap. I want functioning games with nicely written stories and creativity, made with love and passion and without any kind of micro transactions. You know, like games used to be 15-20 years ago. Everything else is utterly unimportant. I'm aware that it will never be like it used to because there is just to much money to be made with micro transactions. But the Corpos can't expect me to give a shit if they constantly try to fuck us and get more money with their trickery. They can talk all they want - actions speak louder. If the games and business practices are good I like the developer, If not I don't. It's just that simple. If I catch them only once trying to get more money out of me with fishy tricks and tactics they are dead to me. I don't care how popular the game might be. I don't support predatory business practices. And the list of developers I like is constantly shrinking.

@@Fusible_1 Exactly. Baldurs Gate gives me some hope. There still is love, passion and dedication to be found in game development. I don't mind the game reveals and all that, but the awards part of the show this year felt like an after thought more so then any year before. I think that was in response to the one guy last year that just had a super long speech. The problem is they went too far by having such an incredibly short time limit on every single person. Especially for the actual GAME OF THE YEAR award. It's honestly ridiculous. I also think the random celebrity shit makes the show worse as well and is an absolute snore to sit through live. Glad I opted to just watch the awards after the fact this year. Hopefully next year they actually bother letting people talk about their games.

I don't even refer to it as "The Game Awards" in my mind anymore, it's "The Geoff Keighley Show". They'll try to course correct, I'm sure, but as far as I'm concerned the damage is done. The TGA award has lost all semblance of importance. I look more to things like publication top 10s, the BAFTA, the games category in literature awards, and ofc the critics I personally care for.
