Great show guys! Omg those game stats for you all were awesome, Dan and Matt now that you have a video game podcast you can consider those hundreds and thousands of hours of gameplay as "research". You've finally breached the elite 1%! I loved your takes on advertising in gaming. Also Maulding's Golden Rule of video game trailers will never steer us wrong! Redfall was the last one that really his mantra into my head, yeeesh. I'm pumped for Hunt, it's super sweaty but man that game gives me a sense of suspense and fear like no other. Cool to know Post Malone is a fan cause I thought it was kinda cringe when I first saw the trailer but overall I think they've been under good creative direction in the last few years. Hunt is one of the most underrated games of all time. Lord, I'm glad you saw it's excellence from the streams. I didn't notice the music in the Arcane show but man that is one of, if not the best, animated series I've ever seen. Dan I thought you'd be more pumped for Astrobot given it's platformer vibe, I think you even said it was a GOTY contender back in an earlier episode. I was relieved to hear Elden Ring didn't win, I was ready to picket with "No DLC" signs in front of the event. Super pumped for Half Life 3!

My rule is the one rule to rule them all! Immediately thought of you with Hunt, obviously. Are you going to go back to it? I was also relieved that Elden Ring didn't win, but Astro Bot is just a bridge too far. Baldur's Gate 3 should have won again.

@@matthewjmaulding Yeah I've been meaning to jump into Hunt again now that they've upgraded to Unreal 5, this new content is the perfect motivation (if I can pull myself out of Ark Winterw Wonderland haha) If we're talking Game of Last Year I'm giving it to Remnant 2, another highly underrated and overlooked game. The DLC's for it have been pretty good too :)

Awesome to hear about Remnant 2 DLCs, I loved the base game so I can't wait to go back. I would totally vote for that as game of the year if it didn't come out last year. And yes, I do LOVE Astrobot and I was happy it was a game of the year contender, BUT, I didn't think it did anything unique to the platformer genre to warrant winning. The platformer genre hasn't really had a huge shake up since Mario Galaxy. Then again, I didn't really love any of the other nominees, so it was kind of a weak year. But based on the trailers, 2025 is going to be awesome!

Man, what a great Game Awards show! Easily an A+ as a games showcase; if that's a C, I don't know what an A would possibly be. We got The Witcher 4, Intergalactic, Okami 2, Onimusha, Virtua Fighter, Ninja Gaiden, Slay the Spire 2, Elden Ring expansion, Mafia 4, Split Fiction, Borderlands 4, and Turok, all in the same show, and those are just the ones I'm personally interested in. Too much to really chime in on, but some details I've gleaned from other sources that you might find interesting: -That Game of Thrones game is apparently a MOBILE game. I wasn't really sold on it anyway, but that factor takes it off of my radar entirely. -Apparently the new Mafia game is MORE linear than past ones, so no open world to explore at all. Personally, I'm fine with it, since the linear story was always the draw in those games anyway, and the more open-world activities in 3 were repetitive and dragged that game down. -SO MANY PEOPLE thought that Half-Life 3 was going to get announced. Like, X posts from "insiders" saying Gabe Newell told them it was happening. Delusions. Haha. -Intergalactic didn't show gameplay (other than what Maulding mentions), but it definitely looked like it was in-engine. I could tell within a few minutes that it was Naughty Dog's next game, because there's a quality to their animation that's still unmatched elsewhere. I loved the brand stuff, personally. It really drove home the alternate-reality, retro-futurist premise having recognizable real-world stuff in this otherwise-futuristic world. -Y'all need to play Astrobot before talking shit. It's absolutely loaded with creative gameplay concepts and trying new stuff from beginning to end. There are individual levels that are clever enough that they would be stretched out to entire games by most other developers. It's still not my GOTY pick, but it's a totally fair choice.

It was a C from me because there was little variation between games. They looked so similar it was crazy, somehow. Then there was just a slew of anime games.

@@LastNightsGrime I don't know, there's a pretty wild degree of variation between all those I mentioned. I think Hoyoverse just paid a bunch of money for ads and it all ended up in the middle. Kind of a necessary evil; somebody's gotta bankroll it. Can you name a better game showcase overall, though? Like, that's a crazy slew of announcements. Definitely the best Game Awards.

@@RossMillerMediumMashup If they had just dropped some Death Stranding 2 or a new FPS in there, it would have elevated the show for me. Don't get me wrong, I love a good action RPG, but dang, that's like every game coming in 2025 (or whenever they launch haha).
