This one apparently gets crap from people as being "the worst one" out of the GBA trilogy. Idk why. They say the other ones are better but I couldn't stomach them due to the artstyle. May have to try them again. This though was brilliant imho so if it's "the worst"... Saw it for sale as a kid but opted not to get it as I didn't like the NES Castlevanias that much (had Legends on the Gameboy and that one wasn't brilliant either). Didn't know it was a metroidvania. So I didn't play it until I was an adult but to me it's pretty damn great. The only flaw I see is the cardsystem, as it's easy to miss a critical card (I missed the healing one in a playthrough) but other than that idk what to even fault... Maybe more and more varied enemies(?). Graphically I like it a lot more than the later ones as said.

This is the only Castlevania game that ever appealed to me enough to pick it up and i loved it (and i believe i actually beat it, thought it's been a looong time ha). I really loved the visual aesthetic of the game, with all the Renaissance paintings and stained glass windows in the background, And not so many of the cheesy flashy effects found in some of the others-- i appreciate the more "realistic" approach this installment took. I still have this one, on the Castlevania Double Pack. Pretty awesome game - I always love getting to play a Metroid-style Castlevania where the whip user doesn't have to be a Belmont. Though, one giant complaint - getting cards almost never happened for me. I probably had about 5 by the time I fought Dracula. Maybe I just had bad luck or whatever, but the drop rate was just way too low. I still have yet to see probably half of the abilities this game offers you. I guess that's also an excuse to play again, but still - what a pain.

Too bad Nate doesn’t talk that much (in voice clips). All he says are the typical grunts. But at least he has plenty of attacks and buffs at his disposal! And yes, I do like this game, more than Harmony of Dissonance (definitely not bad or anything, I do like it despite its mediocre soundtrack but it’s not hard on the ears as I know GBA can produce great music even if it has a fuzzy audio driver), which is my own personal opinion. By the way, beginning area music (Awake) is AWESOME! The final boss was piss-easy in the first form but his second form was fucking BRUTAL! Giant-ass Demon Dracula had me rage quit. Definitely the hardest boss next to Hugo. But damn that final battle music is fucking awesome and the most epic final boss music in the entire series imo. Also, does anybody consider this game an action RPG? Because I do. SOTN goes under that category because it has RPG elements in it like levelling up, currency system, status effects and elemental effects.

Circle of the moon was a nice game. Not too easy but not ridiculous, the hints are clear enough and I didnt waste tons of time exploring, and it's pretty solid in general. The music was great, in fact the best among the three GBA castlevanias, the other two didn't feel as much as castlevania as this one; i liked the interpretation of the vampire killer, one of my favourite versions. My two complaints are the running mechanic, and the fact that cards should have been easier to gather. They are very fun and I don't want to resort to gliches.
