Ehhh, may I agree to disagree with you and your comment; I am sort of neutral when it comes to comparing & contrasting handheld/mobile MK titles.... case in point: MK 1 for the Tiger Electronics LLC all-in-one device let's us choose all 7 (possibly a hidden warrior or two as well; I have not yet been successful at unlocking Shang Tsung or Prince Goro... even Noob Saibot, Reptile, Jade, Smoke, etc.) previously included kombatants from the original MK arcade/stationary console versions ! However, MK 1 for the Gameboy and Gamegear don't feature or showcase all seven or more (hidden) warriors but these versions are an obvious step above the Tiger Electronics LLC all-in-one , Tiger VRT-X, Tiger Barcodzz, and even the Tiger Game. com/Pocket Pro player ! The Tiger and other minor versions feature only 1 recycled background and there is a total lack of ambiance & voice-overs; however, the GameJoy Series B or Series G (my new names for the Boy and Girl iterations of Gameboy family of devices... to mitigate girls' frustration with the idea of playing/experiencing with a device/toy clearly marketed more so towards boys/males {even though it wasn't the case}... has a large variety of combos and special/unique fighting attacks, moves, variety of backgrounds/locations ,musical ambience, announcer's/ voice-overs's, more depth to the fighting mechanics, the sprites are in colour (if one choses to emulate the MK 1-3 titles or in full colour and no emulator necessary... if one chooses to play or check out MK 4 for the Nintendo GJC {GameJoy} Series B or Series G !

Wow, are you sure that you are simply curious not just bias towards the GBA version of Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance and or Tournament Fighter instead of being nostalgic/retro (both titles MK 3 and MK: Deadly Alliance have their pluses and minuses ... Ultimate MK 3 (DS) and MK: Unchained (PSP) , MK 09 (PSVita) were a few of the more playable/usable ports of MK (along with MK: Advance... a difficult yet feasable/passable MK in my honest opinion)

It’s not a bad port considering the technology they had to deal with, eventrough it feels more like watching with an old 1940’s camera zoomed in on the arcade version of mk3, But still,back then your only choice on nintendo systems was to play it on snes athome or on the go on gameboy, In case you had no sega systems.

Killer Instinct had really bad infinites but otherwise it was 60fps on the GB and felt accurate to it’s source material. It was probably the best playing GB port until SFA1 on GBC.

Got this game recently. Played it and I had some fun with it. Not the best fighter on the gba, but its definitely better than MK1 and MK4 on gameboy. Shao Kahn is very easy to beat here.

the technology of the gameboy just wasn’t there yet,but it didn’t stop them to port mk3 to it,altrough they still did needed a mbc1 chip to allow bigger rom data to run on gameboy but it’s clearly a step back at how it turned out, What they should,ve done was using the pcm soundchannel for voices and add more and fully detailed backgrounds per character and they also should,ve support the window layer for a scrolling background to more close mimmick those 16bit versions,but that would,ve took more romn space thus highering up the price but that would,ve be more worth it. The only thing i like from this version are those beatyful detailed and fluedly animated characters and those cut scenes per fight but that’s it.

Back in 95 my dad offered to get me the snes version as opposed to this one for Christmas but I really wanted to play mk3 portably so I picked this out. Man was I a dumbass. Thankfully he got it for me on snes the following year. I think I only played this version like 5 times it was awful.

The same period Street Fighter 2 was released. I played MK3 a lot in the arcades and since Gameboy was the only console I had, I was so happy when I read the news about this release. I was about to buy a game and MK3 and SF2 were in the store's cabinet. I chose wisely, stayed out of this crap and bough SF2 which was not a masterpiece but surely better than this shit!

Mortal Kombat games was a failure on game boy 😂 I own them but because I was an MK fan and thought it would be neat taking the game and play on the go as a kid. But man they bored me to death and didn’t have the fun and quality as the console games. Especially MK1 man that game it port was slow and lacked everything! Looking back at it those black and white horrible resolution…video games have come a long way!
