was that wire actually needed since you found the regulator was not even soldered correctly?

First, awesome job! Thank you! This was really helpful in solving a no power issue I had. Second, do you understand why the negative battery terminal takes such a roundabout way to get to the main ground plane? I noticed the path goes through the DC-jack locating pin hole to reach the ground fill. If you look up the schematic with all the components and silkscreen & upper soldermask removed, one can see those two traces (connecting to that locating pin hole) are incredibly thin. It's quite bizarre and seemingly designed to fail. I'm new to Game Boy repair and was hoping for some insight. Thanks again!

Yep just poor design layout. No purpose. It was common back then. The game gears analog 5V path is a single super long super thin trace. Often fails

I have a similar issue with an old gameboy pocket. No power both with batteries or adapter. I solded like you did on the first step on the video and the gameboy turn on with batteries, but with no video. And when I try with ac adapter, it doesnt turn on, completely dead. Im pretty confused. I can be an issue of the regulator or maybe its from the jack?

I'm having a similar issue with a GBP that isn't getting power through the battery terminals, but IS getting power through the DC jack. Or rather, it was. I tried soldering a wire from BT- to ground, and unfortunately, I'm no longer able to get power through DC either. However, I found that I was getting positive voltage in pin 5 of the regulator instead of negative. Does this indicate that the regulator needs to be replaced?
@RetroSix3 жыл бұрын
Your battery is definitely the right way around?
@RhandiFisher3 жыл бұрын
@@RetroSix I don't think I had batteries in it when I was testing with the multimeter. Even after removing the wire, though, it wouldn't power back on using the DC.

Check your fuses on the board for continuity

Ive got a Gameboy Pocket that appears to be discharging the AAA batteries when switched off. No more than 1 hours worth of gametime, 24 hours later the batteries are near dead. Would this be an easy fix?

Hi, can you use the Cleanpower for an Original Display too?
@RetroSix Жыл бұрын
On DMG yes. Not the others but I can make it possible
@jonathanpore67862 жыл бұрын
This happened to 2 Gameboy pockets and now they are both dead, will installing the clean power revive these or is there more parts to replace now? (Fuses?) Should I install these clean powers first before trying to install more FP pocket ips? Will this happen on the color or DMG also?
@RetroSix2 жыл бұрын
FP screens don't work without original regulators. All other screens do. CleanPower and new fuses (we sell normal and resettable) is likely all you need. If not jump on our discord.gg/RetroSix

Luke, What is the fuse I have to buy for the F2 in the pocket? Can you provide a link? I use mouser electronics or Digi Key to buy these.
This is a handy video. Was just trying to do an IPS swap on my old, previously working GBP and now the board is dead. Powered up once with the new FP IPS display, and then when I screwed everything back together, it wouldn't turn on. Do you think a Clean Power + more would help to bring it back, similar to this process? Thanks!
@RetroSix3 жыл бұрын
Very likely yes. The FP is known for killing the regulator

@@RetroSix Much appreciated. Just ordered a few for a couple of GBPs I have. This video is going to be a great resource, and I've been loving some of the products I've gotten from RetroSix. Thanks!

Join pin 2 and 3 of where DC jack was. It joins ground of the board together
