I have been thinking of building my first gameboy. I have some soldering experience, but still a beginner. How dificult would you say this is for a newcommer?
@giltesa3 жыл бұрын
Hello Rubi, I think the GBC board is the easiest to solder, the GBP it's a bit complicate because requires more boards and in both sides of the GBP board. The GBASP is the most difficult to solder and also to remove the original connector. I think, if you have good tools (solder iron, tin, flux, multimeter) and you take your time I think everybody can do it.
@Rubijoyal3 жыл бұрын
@@giltesa I was thinking about the gbc as well, though it holds a bit less nostalgia for me. I lived off the game boy pocket and the original dmg. My brothers and I had one, and the pocket I had a little later down the line, but I did like the dmg for its slightly larger screen. My cousin had a color. I remember having my red dmg, and being too stupid to know anything and tried to spray paint it black. I remember how the paint would melt off and stick to my hands. Good times. I will have to see about a gbc or a dmg as a donor then.
@Rubijoyal3 жыл бұрын
So I could not find a good gbc donor for the price I was looking for, but I did manage to get a dmg and mgb for 38 and 44 dollars respectively shipped to my door. Took a bit of a gamble on the gbp. Let's hope it is an easy fix...

Hey there, recently purchased the GBP usb C kit from retromodding. While browsing around for more info, I came across your blog where it says that the kit's not compatible with MGB-CPU-01 boards. is there a work around to this incompatibility? or would I just need to get a differet GBP with the right motherboard model?
@giltesa2 жыл бұрын
I will explain it better to you later, but basically the main board changes and the 5V from the USB to the charging board can't be connected just soldering them on the GBP board. Someone had this problem and he was able to use it soldering a cable.
@voxrepeatpercussion2 жыл бұрын
thank you for the quick reply I'll be waiting on ur further explanation!
@giltesa2 жыл бұрын
@@voxrepeatpercussion The main problem of this versions is the copper wires of the mainboard are not in the same place as the rest of compatible mainboards. It's a problem because when you solder the USB-C board we need to use a copper wire to transfer the input of 5v between the top side to the bottom side where is the charging board... and this copper wire doesn't go where we expect/need. Then, to be able to install the charging board on this version of GBP mainboard, it's necessary to solder a cable to join both boards. The steps are: Hide this pad with kapton tape (or something that doesn't melt with the solder iron): img.giltesa.com/images/383gbp_0.jpg Solder some thin wires to the bottom pad and put the other side over the pad covered with tape: img.giltesa.com/images/522gbp_1.jpg Cover with tape the rest of wires: img.giltesa.com/images/426gbp_2.jpg Put the board and solder it: img.giltesa.com/images/149gbp_3.jpg The user who had the problem soldered it like this: img.giltesa.com/images/446gbp_4.jpg

Hey i got a very strange issue: after a few seconds i plug the usb c out, i cant turn the gameboy on. When i plug it in it works agan and i can turn it on, even if the plug is not connectet anymore. This lasts for a few seconds then i cant turn it on anymore. Can you help me? The battery is fully charged and when i measure on the connector of the battery it gets 4V .
@giltesa2 жыл бұрын
That sounds very strange, yes. Does that happen using an IPS screen and/or flash card? May you able to test it with another battery? I don’t know if the things you have connected are taking too much anergy when you turn it on, or maybe the battery has a problem 😐

Hey I just bought the Pro Kit from Hand Held Legend. How similar is this video to what is in the Pro? Will I be able to follow along with this?
@giltesa9 ай бұрын
Hello Andy. I'm not sure which kit you have bought. If it's one of ours, I recommend checking the shop; each article has an installation guide. shop.giltesa.com/

@@giltesa Haha. I'm sorry I checked I bought it from Retro Game Repair Shop, here in the states. It is the Game Boy Pocket USB-C Charging Kit Pro. It won't arrive for a few more days, but I read through the installation guide to sort of start a game plan. I watched the video installation you made for this version and I sort of browsed through the Color Charging Kit Pro installation video you made. I'm just wondering if there is a video for the Pocket Pro kit? Or is this sufficient enough with the installation guide, to brute force my way through installation? Sorry about the confusion earlier.
@giltesa9 ай бұрын
@@andypedersen5971 I think that with the guide, it should be enough to complete the installation. The most challenging part is soldering the USB-C board, for which this video might be helpful. The rest of the installation is very similar to the GBC-PRO, only the soldering points differ. You can use these videos as additional assistance if the guide is not sufficient. kzbin.info/www/bejne/kIXQYYx5e8mcsJY kzbin.info/www/bejne/b3zNnaqdaZ6ErcU

I installed the Funnyplaying IPS screen and Retrosix Cleanpower Amp along with this kit. The LED light works when plugged in via wire and the light changes to red when I flip the switch, but now the screen wont turn on. Do these mods not work together?
@giltesa3 жыл бұрын
I know the board work will with an ips screen and a flash card but I haven't tested it with other modules. You should check the input voltage of your nodule and if this is compatible with an input of 3.7v

@@giltesa I am having issues with the closing of the shell I think I did find a way for the cuts to work with the usb c but in the future you think a 3d printed jig for cutting the holes could be made Also if I were to connect a wireless charger to the 5 volt pin on the usb c board and then to any ground pin I would have wireless charging ?

@@manwhoeatsfishinbedwithlig3791 yes, for the GBP board you need to remove a bit plastic of the shell. In the installation pdf you can see the pictures. I haven't tested a wireless charger, but yes.
