Chirpy Chips' only problem in the previous games was that a lot of the songs sounded very similar (it took me about a month to be able to differentiate their songs), but these two sound really unique!

For people that aren't aware: Arpeggios are common in chiptune due to retro consoles hardware limitations (specially the NES) having a really limited amount of voice channels (default NES really only has 4 channels and just 2 of them are square waves)

The default NES actually has 5: 2 Pulse(square), Triangle, Noise (LFSR), and DPCM, which is a very low quality sample channel, usually used for more realistic drums, or even voice samples. The Game Boy only has 4: Pulse 1 (with sweep), Pulse 2, Wave (4-bit sample), and noise (LFSR).

I like the fact that the devs add new music every season since launch. I didn't expect them to do that. It gives them a unique atmosphere. And I don't think there's any new multiplayer track that disappointed me

Yes, Chirpy Chips IS the only band that’s getting comebacks in every game while all the others aren’t. I love Chirpy Chips to death and No Quarters is by far my most favorite Chirpy Chips song so far.

When Kouichi Sugiyama, one of Japanese well-known game music composers, was alive, he explained that arpeggios were commonly used in the NES era with 8-bit sound because the number of sounds that could be output simultaneously was limited. I am interested in the fact that the arpeggio has now become a typical expression of chiptune. I would be happy if you could explain Slopping Spree as well.

Me too! It's technically not a reference, it's more that the song structure tends to be similar to Clickbait with most of the tunes that are used as themes for the trailers!

Interestingly enough, internally this song is called BGM_Versus_Thunder_16.bwav, while Slopping Spree is BGM_Versus_Thunder_15.bwav (Thunder being the codename for Splatoon 3). Interesting that the 2nd song added in the update ended up being the trailer song. This one is definitely my favourite, though. If you were wondering about codenames: Splatoon = Gambit Splatoon 2 = Blitz Splatoon 3 = Thunder and the songs from those games generally have the BGM_LobbyVersus__* or BGM_Jukebox__* prefixes What's also interesting is that all the new battle themes that launched with the game also have _Mastering added as a suffix (e.g. Clickbait is BGM_Versus_Thunder_01_Mastering.bwav, Now or Never (C-Side) is BGM_Versus_Thunder_Last1Min_Mastering.bwav ), but every song that was added in an update omits that

something i've noticed about splatoon music in general, but especially in this song is the use of mixolydian mode. i'm working on a song that sounds similar to splatoon, and i definitely plan on using mixolydian for part of it!

Yeah, the composers LOVE using the mixolydian and dorian mode. The most notable element about Splatoon 3 music specifically is the use of both the major and minor third in guitar riffs or similar. Weird, but somehow works if done right, just like the entire concept of Splatoon itself haha.

i think theres a possibility that theres someone else who beat the chirpy chips to be in all three games (aside from squid sisters.) Depending on whether you believe Sandy Side Up features Diss Pair or not, Ikkan may have been in all three games since the launch of Splatoon 3. (Squid Squad, Diss Pair) As far as im aware, nobody can really confirm one way or another whether they were in sandy side up for 100% sure yet.

0:33 yeah it is technically but also you gotta remeber squid sisters are in all 3 and that squid squad is technically in all 3 since they're in the first, the bassist is in a diff band in the 2nd, and in the 3rd the rest are in a diff band however I wouldnt rly count squid squad or squid sisters since squid squad wasnt the same in all 3 and squid sisters are the idol group not like normal bands

Splatoon is a game that has a lot going on at a given time during a game and the music will get shoved to the back of your focus, but in the brief calm quieter moments when the music gets back into your focus I find this song in particular has a lot of sections that fit those moments exceptionally well. When the timing is just right it's phenomenal. I wouldn't call this my favorite song or anything but there's something special about this one ingame compared to other Splatoon songs imo.
