So the reason this Boss Theme is very "different" compared to the other boss themes, is because it is one of the very few bosses you don't fight at all in the base game, but instead meet in the Hall of Gods (AKA the DLC) after you have faced everything the base game has to offer. It represents the truest form of the Sealed Vessel that wasn't "corrupted" by emotion or weakness and in essence is the theoretical strongest version of The Hollow Knight. That is why it has this surreal and spiritual atmosphere instead of the usual high stakes battle boss themes!

@@mothichorror446 I'm not actually sure, I also considered the radiance as possibly being the corruption. I think it's mainly my personal interpretation that the pure vessel is what the pale king was trying to make when training THK, I'm not knowledgable with 100% of the lore to know for sure tho.

In the Abyss Climb sequence, you can overhear the Pale King defining a 'pure vessel' as something hollow, with no mind to think, no voice to cry suffering and devoid of thought. 'Purity' appears to be intrinsic to the entity rather than caused by outside influence here, as if the Hollow Knight were pure, it wouldn't be infected. Instead, it would contain the infection with no harm to its shell, as the Radiance cannot influence them if they are lacking thought, since this is what the Radiance corrupts. Thus I think the Pure Vessel as we fight it is not its past glory, but its true potential if it wasn't tarnished by an idea instilled.

You nailed the vibe pointing out how it "transcends physicality" and the elements of hope alongside tragic drama. This is my favorite boss fight of all time probably. The Pale King's dream of an impossibly perfect messiah you lay to final rest to replace with your own dream of the one last prodigal sibling Reunited!

Pure Vessel is the soundtrack that plays when you fight the associated boss, The Pure Vessel. The reason it sounds so similar to Sealed Vessel, which plays when you fight The Hollow Knight, is because The Pure Vessel is essentially a jacked up version of The Hollow Knight. Faster pacing, harder attacks, and higher damage is what you can expect from him. Not to mention that, unlike The Hollow Knight, it’s not you two against the infection possessing The Hollow Knight. It’s you against The Pure Vessel. Unlike The Hollow Knight, The Pure Vessel will not hesitate to end your existence. You fight The Pure Vessel in Godhome, which is an optional area in Hollow Knight that acts as the “Boss Rush” mode of Hollow Knight. There are 5 Boss Rushes called Pantheons. The Pure Vessel is the final boss of the fourth Pantheon and the second to last boss of the fifth Pantheon. Lore-wise, The Pure Vessel is the revered prince of Hallownest, a representation of what The Hollow Knight could’ve been if he were truly pure as the Pale King wished him to be. That’s why there is a royal and ethereal feeling to the soundtrack: The Pure Vessel is royalty, after all, one that never was, but could’ve been. A fleeting illusion not of what once was, but of what was supposed to be.

This is the final boss of the second hardest pantheon. It's definitely out of the way and takes a lot of skill to get it down the first time (as well as through a boss rush). It's the Hollow Knight before it was infected. It's actually really nice to get through the pantheon to be greeted by this song because it helps keep you calm in a stressful situation

I think the song is so sad and tense is because it's like a false hope, where the Vessel, the Pure Vessel seems like it can fix everything, but knowing their fate makes it seem pointless, represented by the lack of a buildup and more of a somber song. It's quite a masterpiece.

I like how this one is so calm and quiet, despite it accompanying one of the hardest bossfights in the game. It really suits the character of it. It paradoxically gives the fight even _more_ weight. The Pure Vessel is the Hollow Knight, uncorrupted. Pure. None of the agony and frantic energy from when you fought it in the Black Egg, just deliberate, calm, unthinking. This is the Hollow Knight as it was meant to be. As it turns out, the Hollow Knight was imperfect, and this only exists, _can_ only exist, as the dreams and imaginings of the Godseekers, hence the ethereality of it. Also, it just occurred to me, it sounds like this song contains _no malice._ At all. You can hear malice in Radiance of course, and Sealed Vessel because the Radiance is there as an influence when the Hollow Knight fights you, and she _hates_ you. But the Hollow Knight, in its pure form, doesnt feel any hate. It doesn't feel anything.

This makes me realize how much the context of the music matters. The first time the player gets to this fight, they can see who they're facing maybe 7 seconds before the music starts, so they KNOW this is gonna be the toughest boss fight yet. And then the game hits you with this slow melancholy tune, completely contrasting what is probably an utter beat-down, but it always plays for a few seconds before the first attack, so you can absorb the mood conveyed by the music before panicking. This fight doesn't feel like any other in the game, and the music doesn't feel the same outside of the context of this fight.

Its from the Godmaster DLC, in which you get to fight past bosses as well as boss rushes called Pantheons, each ending with a new boss. The fourth pantheon, Pantheon of the Knight, ends with a fight against the Pure Vessel, which is the Hollow Knight before the Radiance was sealed within him. Thats why it sounds so simular to Sealed Vessel

LETS GO my favorite boss in the entire game. Just the two most powerful knights in history duking it out with soul and shade. The ultimate sibling rivalry. I've always loved how even though the fight is one of the fastest in the game, the song is one of the slowest. Also, the oboe is a really interesting choice.

The track feels so weightless, like the fight is more a dance in contrast to broken vessel, which is more of a brawl. I can't analyze the music, but the broken vessel fight is very frantic, intense and very unpredictable with the infection fighting the vessel for control, while pure vessel is at its peak form, perfect and deliberate. In broken vessel neither you nor the enemy know what is going on or what will happen. Meanwhile in pure vessel, you both know what has to happen. You both know why you are here, you both know what you both need to do.

Another thing, those last 5 notes are a different type of motif. At the end of most (maybe all) bosses, they play. Except it’s normally 15 notes (the same 5 repeating in higher octaves each time) and a chord, but this one is cut extremely short. Perhaps to symbolise the Pure Vessel’s own hollow nature, or the fact that, try as it might, it cannot be fully hollow. Or perhaps it’s about the fight itself. This is the one boss whose theme doesn’t even sound like a fight, where there is no honour from a noble opponent, nor glory from a fellow nailmaster, nor resolve in finishing a diseased beast when you slay the Vessel. For this time, your opponent was nothing more than an obstacle, a reflection of its former self, a vessel yet to be filled

Like many would have written by now, the Pure Vessel is the original form of the Sealed Vessel. The lore goes so well with the track once you know of it, enhancing the experience. And about that, 7:00, it both references the main theme of the game and also the Pure Vessel's dreaded fate of becoming the Sealed Vessel. That reverberating, high pitched sound is taken directly from the Sealed Vessel theme. By the by, when do you plan to add the White Palace theme to the channel? I prepared an entire paragraph describing it. I want to know if someone who actually knows how to analyse these themes reaches similar conclusions, or close enough ones. I think this music fits very well to the fight because even though pure vessel moves very fast (and therefore you have to too) you need to actally be very methodical to beat it so the music doesn't need punch, and of course it's sad seeing THK on it's prime knowing how it ends up

Reason why you wouldn't hear this in a normal playthrough: It plays in the Godhome area, which is a place for refighting bosses and partaking in boss rushes. The Pure Vessel is a boss exclusive to that area's activities.

I guess the feeling of the fight is ... special with a track like this. Well, since I'm playing Omori (not a bad game, but I think it's not the type of game I enjoy the most) I'll recommend a track: Bready Steady Go, from a hard boss I beat today and I really enjoyed (the music also helped with that, dancing of enjoyment throughout the fight jeje). And I recommend also checking out as well Laika: Aged Through Blood soundtrack, amazing man; I recommend for example The Whisper. That's it. ¡Adiós!

As many others in the comments have no doubt mentioned, this boss represents The Hollow Knight back in his prime when he was one of the Pale King's greatest knights. However, it doesn't matter how you fight him. His end as the Sealed Vessel is inevitable. There is no changing what fate has in store for him. As such, this song, almost literally a slowed down version of the original boss theme, plays both majestic and solemn. However, if you notice, it's missing the conclusion heard in the Sealed Vessel theme. The Pure Vessel will not end as the Pure Vessel. Only as the Sealed Vessel will his end truly come.

This is from the Hollowknight DLC where you fight characters in their prime essentially in a tournament to determine who's the most worthy to be worshipped as a god. Being in their prime is a happy moment but a lot of these characters the player had to put down due to them being infected by the radiance or because they believed there was no hope, nothing else they could do. Meanwhile the Hollowknight specifically is the protagonist's canonical brother, so we have brother against brother, the sibling who was loved only so he could serve as the most empty sacrifice and the one who was abandoned for lacking that same suitability by having some level of emotion and desire. Of course in his prime either before he ever took the radiance into his body at the peak of his physical condition, much larger than his own abandoned siblings like the player AND the broken vessel*. The path of pain is a right of passage very likely intended for the hollowknight aka the pure vessel.

i've heard that theme many, many theme. And not only when i got my butt kicked. And i never, ever, heard the little final notes, the main theme "killing the song". That's one of the reason why i like you, that i like what you do. You point, you explain, easily, clearly, little small thing i'd never see (hear ?) otherwise. For me, the "no impact" in the song, that feeling of a spiritual, religious thing, completly make sense now that you pointed it like that. Fighting is for many things, anger, jealousy, pride, survival... but not for the Pure vessel. He fight because he was made for, completly unaffected, completely "pure". But yet we *know* there's a little, tiny crack. As small, as discreet, than three or four weakly played not at the end of a song. And when this crack will open, the purity will cease.. and the game will start.

You should react to nine sols music. I would recommend anything from the game but lone sol is probably my favourite. Edit: Other ones you could do are Yi's theme (A path for us all), Jiequans theme (Ballad of warriors), or staircase of a thousand steps to name a few.

Holow knight, a great game with amazing boss battles. here, we fight The Hollow Knight. No wonder it has so much reverence, this is The Fight, The Title Card, The Point of the whole game, as he was and not is.
