Great video. I was rather taken back by Future Games and Black Dev claiming it was dead. I certainly think it's shrunk since 2020 but that's from less lockdowns. Dani managed to ride that wave of popularity with everyone watching youtube because of lockdowns and he did a great job. Now it's settling down and everyone is working out how best to do both youtube and game dev. I can't see it slowing down from this point.

This was one of the best responses i've ever watched. I'm already editing my next devlog. I don't think it's worth it to dwell on this, so I'm just going to move along as if my gamedev youtube video was just another video.

Dan's part has me over here like 😅

@@DanPos haha I agreed with what you said. But some parts hit me like... using the "dream" or "open world" aspects of videos. Also the part about needing to decide whether you want to be a youtube or a game dev. And I've been kinda riding the line on that, but know I should really make a choice.

@@AIAdev hey man if it works it works haha! It's crazy to me it still works but being on the marketing side of things I see it more than maybe the average viewer does

I couldn't agree more. I just started my channel last week, 1 video, and I still got views despite having 0 editing and heavy effort put into the video creation process.

@Nathan Rohner - Indie Game Developer Thanks! I plan to do a dev log series on that star wars project and then switch to do niche tutorials + devlogs of whatever I'm doing.

As far as innovators go, Addy Valentine's production quality is through the roof and he only has less than 3k subs! Massively underrated creator I think deserves to be huge. Man is really the ryan reynolds of game dev

Another awesome creator I wasn't aware of! Subbed.

A little late for the discussion, but I certainly believe gamedev isn't dead, as long as people enjoy playing games, there is a chance you will want to make your own one day, it takes time and skill but it is possible for anyone, and as tech evolves more and more, it should become easier to make games. However for creators on yt, balacing everything at the same time can be quite the challenge, Most gamedevs suffers from being a jack of all trades, and I couldn't agree more with what dan said, you are either a youtuber or a game dev, being both at the same time increases your chance of burning out for the simple reason of not being able to fullfill either path. This was quite an interesting video to watch and read the comments,

bl4ckdev here - from my main channel I'm here to address some things you said To clarify, I think your video is really well done, and you've made some really good points. Also it's very fair of you to criticise me as I did criticise other people. I. I completely agree! It could've been worded way better & way nicer II. I don't think I mentioned Punch-A-Bunch anywhere in my video. Pontypants is really great though III. I really didn't want to mention the "3 developers" as I don't want to cause any more drama as it's my personal opinion. IV. I NEVER meant to offend Future Games, I made that clear to him afterwards. I made the video because I felt like it could've been said better. Hating on anyone was not my intention. Also bl4ckdev is not my main channel, I just plan to post chill videos there (which you can see from my newest video there) Anyways, I think you did a really great job with this video.

I don't watch any of the channels mentioned in the video that are supposedly dying. The ones I watch like The Cherno, DevDuck or Lost Relic Games all seem to be doing ok and are still fun to watch :)

Just so you know, Bl4ck and I have made up. I've also made up with LejoDev and Anant.
