I agree that I was addicted to clearing out the first dungeon. Every little step further in felt like an accomplishment. Then the punch in the gut at the start of chapter 2 got me, then again at the third. I think if I can get through it and get reunited with everyone I will get hooked again. I just need to go put my big boy pants back on :D

I'm glad to hear unchained blades lived up to people's expectations. I initially heard it was going to have a physical release but the idea was scrapped just before the game got released as downloadable game only. Game companies like xseed, nis america, atlus, and aksys literally have some of the most loyal fans, and while I think xseed could of easily made their money back if they had a physical release, a big part of being a sucessful company is knowing when not to take a risk.

Xseed just announced they're bringing over Killer is Dead, Rune Factory 4 & Ys IV this year along with Pandora's Tower. Bless you Xseed, bless you.

Actually this one is quite nice, the only thing that really gets frustrating is having to go back to town so often.

It's almost to the point with Xseed that I will just buy whatever they put out. But yeah all four companies are doing amazing things for their fans, don't know why the big boys can't learn something from them.

I know how you like to play game series in order, but I hope you try Etrian Odyssey 4 when it drops. Can't wait to hear what you think about it!

i really wish this had a physical release, but i will be getting etrain odyssey iv for 3ds to see if i like first person dungeon crawlers. great to see that we are getting so awesome jrpgs.

XSEED is like heaven for us RPG fans...I'm almost 21 hrs into Unchained Blades and i'm doing horrible lol. I'm only on the 2nd chapter. It took me about 15 hrs to find out how to equip Anima's to followers. I didnt know they left them behind when you release them lol. So now I understand it more but wow, what a late start lol. But I am enjoying it and made me re-buy the Etrian Odyssey games and pre order the 4th one. Overall this is a great game. Great video!

Yeah this one automaps, the only problem with that is you get addicted to finishing the maps haha. I can see how some people may find this game a bit tedious...especially the second and third chapters as it introduces new characters and you start over at level 1 with them.

i have "the Dark spire". That game is so hard, it's almost unfair. I don't know if I will get back into it. To bad, because it has a pretty neat look and soundtrack.

Gotta say, this sounds pretty awesome. I really want to get into dungeon crawlers and this might be the one to do it. I tried with Etrian Odyssey 3 but found the game so ball-bustingly difficult and the mapping too tedious. I hope maybe the casual mode in EO4 will ease me in better but with the mapping being tedious in the first place, I'm not so sure I will enjoy it. SMT: Strange Journey is another that may get me into them.

Dislike for the non-Falcom games? Does that mean you don't like the rest of the stuff they have put out? That's too bad because everything that I have played from them so far has been great! As for the Dark Spire...I am going to get back to it but I think I might go with EO first.

Great video on your thoughts! Lately, the 3D dungeon crawler itch has hit me as well. I played Dragon Quest 1-5, and needed a bit of a switch. I do work at RPGamer.com as JCServant, mostly on the podcast, RPGBacktrack where we talk about RPGs from the 80's up through two years ago. We have a one, in particular, where we talk about Etrian Odyssey series... and tear down the differences between each of them (Some are more fun than others...and now you have at least one that has been remade). When I tried it years ago, it left me wanting... mostly because of its nigh impossible difficulty and puzzles (unless you have a FAQ handy the entire way). What are the odds, I'm playing my first fps dungeon crawler right now as well, SMT: Strange Journey & wow I'm addicted to this genre now, 67 hours & I'm still not done with it, Unchained Blades is diffidently on my radar..
