Watching this is getting across to me how good Dan is getting at impressions. It may be obvious in retrospect, but to the new player, the game does a lot of work to make you think they are the same. Same talent, same voice actor, similar outfits, and even their names are anagrams of eachother. Given the nature of the premise, memory alteration, despair disease, and other junk, its possible in theory that they were the same person up until Makoto logs in himself.

Shown by how some characters share a lot with their old counterparts They changed it as they thought turning every character especially Makoto to be evil as too unwholesome
