Several similarities/coincidences. 94-24, 30 years. The Canucks, who we played in the finals, is also doing very well this year. Jonathon Quick was, IMO, why the Kings beat us in the 2013-2014 Finals. Dudes a brick wall. We also have several players who grew up Ranger fans, like Quick, that are itching for that cup. Quick would be all set for retirement on a high horse with 2 cups, a decade apart, all while being part of the team to win us the cup again.

been watching this franchise since 69/70...this roster is not a cup winner. 10 will be neutralized when teams are able to focus on him. 20 and 93 are average 5 v 5. hope i live to see one more cup. in 54 seasons, i have seen 4 finals appearances and 1 cup. kind of embarrassing that a guy like kreider is nearing the top in franchise scoring seeing he is not among the top 750 players in nhl history

16 teams make the postseason every year. Those 36 cup winners you mention have finished all over the place, anywhere from 1-16 in the standings. So while finishing first overall doesn't count for much in the postseason, it's actually historically a pretty good spot compared to any one of the 15 other slots.
