I mean, he's in love with himself, but it comes from being revered as a saint in Poland for years before the games were even conceptualized. Definitely the most known Polish fantasy author, and one of the first, actually (fantasy was kind of frowned upon, sci fi was more prevalent in these years, everyone probably heard of Stanislaw Lem). And he did something pretty original, instead of bringing over the Tolkienesque tropes he created these characters, and used slavic myths... He sure is a bitter old man, and narcissistic, but I wouldn't call him dumb.

IIRC the anime mentioned that his mother made him use the name so that demons were less likely to hunt them down. One of the episodes involved him revisiting his childhood friend. It also explored his code of honor from the book a little.

Enzo's had a small part in Devil May Cry ever since the first game where he wrote a character reference for Dante in the manual. Enzo's also in the Devil May Cry 3 manga, but Kamiya wasn't involved in that. In The Eyes of Bayonetta art book, Dante and Enzo are playing strip poker together in The Gates of Hell.

Honestly, I figured he'd go for an arguably better Minecraft book, such as 'Cubeworld' by Karl Olsberg and 'The Elementia Chronicles' trilogy by Sean Fay Wolfe. Whilst these are hardly classic works of literature, they blow the vast majority of minecraft fanfictions out of the water by comparison!

So, I read all of the Perry Verse. My brother kinda broke down when this video started and I went: Oh, I read that, and that and that... All of that. Minor freak out in between where he took a moment to breath, we resumed watching this and I took a long walk down memory lane. I got my hands on those books back in 2007/2008. I was hype on the resident evil bandwagon and ended up watching a lot of Shadowleggy videos and resident evil playthroughs for all the games I knew I would never play because of the consoles and lack of $ I have fond memories of those books. Mostly for how bizarre they were. It was like reading fanfiction, but with a stamp that said "legal bruh". I always thought that S.D. Perry had a real problem in the definition of bad guys. I mean, Nikolai, Wesker and Chief Irons (for what I can remember, correct me if I'm wrong), end up having a moment of "enlightment" when they are about to die in which they want to explain themselves to the female character there (It's always a female, at least for what I can recall). That always pissed me off a bit, because it completely deconstructed the characters we knew. Almost as if the author couldn't accept that some people are simply assholes and evil. I always got the impression that the author thought the bad guys had some deep rooted unresolved mummy issues. That's the only way I can describe the thought patterns they followed there. Overall, the books are enjoyable. Cringy at some points, but so morbidly fun that you can't help but read. Or at least, if you are a Hardcore resident evil fan, you'll either rage or enjoy it as a bizarre take on the games.

Eric Nylund had such a deliberate and enjoyable style to his Halo books that made it really hard to enjoy a lot of the ones that came after. Reach was a masterpiece, First Strike was some impressive stuff, and Ghosts of Onyx was a bit convoluted by the end, but still really gripping and a great addition to the series. Karen Traviss was not a capable writer to offload that story arc onto.

The Worlds of Power series by F.X. Nine were an absolutely storming read. I couldn't get enough of that shit when I was a kid. Every time we had a "book day" at school where you order through those kids literature catalogues I'd tear through looking for a new one. I had Blaster Master, Metal Gear and Ninja Gaiden. I must have read each of them 10 times at least. I've always regretted giving them away, but then something tells me they wouldn't hold up. Still, I loved the references to individual sections of the games, like going into detail about Snake wrapping cloth around his knuckles so that he could "rabbit punch" his way through a crack in the wall.

DMC uber-fan here: Enzo appears in early concept art for DMC1, and again in the manga's first volume. The whole noir feel was because of it's origins as an attempt at making Resident Evil 4. Tony Redgrave was one of Spencer's twin sons (the other being called Paul) and was enhanced with nano-machines, giving him the kind of superpowers Wesker would end up with. Spencer was supposed to be hundreds of years old, evidently an alchemist who discovered prehistoric bodies under his castle which contained an early T-Virus. Relatively little actually changed in the end product really; just replace "mutants" with "demons" and there you go. The novel is a mish-mash of ideas from the prototype Resi 4 script and the final DMC1 script. Likewise, the novelization of DMC4 does the same; taking plot points from the much larger original script and trying to make it somehow fit with the final game. There's a little nod to Dante's original name in the games; the sides of his guns have "for Tony Redgrave" carved on the side, and Arkham surprises him by knowing his real name at the start of DMC3. So the implication is that "Tony Redgrave" is an alias in the final game's canon. /nerd

I can recommend the two Elder Scrolls novels, The Infernal City, and its sequel, Lord of souls. It seems like a bit of a mixed bag about who likes it based on some reviews ive reed but i liked them. Some sentences can be a bit wierd if you don't know that much about the gods and stuff like that from the lore, but i still recommend looking them up.

Based on what Super Bunnyhop was critical of from the novel Metal Gear Solid by Raymond Benson from the last video on game novels, perhaps he would enjoy the novelization of Metal Gear Solid 4 - Guns of the Patriots by Project Itoh, which actually makes a whole new perspective of the story from the eyes of Solid Snake's closest friend, Otacon, thus giving tons of new creative information about a story we may already know very well. It also helps that it's not just copying the script and making minor edits here and there like Raymond Benson did with his MGS and MGS2 novelizations.

I had The Umbrella Conspiracy, the Devil May Cry novel (by Tokyo Pop), as well as one of the Halo books and one of the Splinter Cell novels you mentioned in this video's predecessor. I loved these Game Novels videos, its fun to go back and acknowledge how awful this stuff was. It was actually a real treat to watch you go into depth about these trite books I read 15 years ago as a dumb kid. And holy shit--the connection between Bayonetta and the DMC book turned out to be insane.

Man that part about the characters in the DMC book being in Bayonetta, that kinda blew my mind. It may or may not be true, but it does seem likely. Even the way they described Enzo "Pig of a man" seems likely to be the same in the game as well. And I did hear something about a DMC/Bayo cross over. What a world. Man. Now THERE is some nice trivia. Plus Kamiya did oversee the original writing so I mean... it's possible.

When I was younger I used to like fan fiction a lot. And it is amazing to see that the ideas that George have in this video and the previous are so similar to the ones I had about fan fiction back in the days. 80% of fan fiction is crap, so in order to find the hidden gems I made up 3 rules. 1: Fans should not be allowed to write fan fiction! Dont! Because they have no distance to the characters and are to absorbed in their favourite things that they cant see the flaws and cant change things. The best stories are written by people who like the source, but think that they can do better. Series with more fervent fans tend to to see those fans attack fan writers who do unorthodox thing with the characters they love. Causing a toxic community. 2: Simpler source materials make for better fan fictions. There is a reason why Doom was Georges favourite book in the previous video. The more complicated a story is, the harder it is to change it. A simple story can get complexity added to it by the fan writer, but a complicated story cant lose complexity without creating plot holes. And this will tie the fan writers hands and either force him to mimic the original plot closely. Or, like the Devil May care book, place it somewhere else where it barely even meets the original story. It will strangle creativity. But there is no such problem with Doom that almost lacked a story to begin with. 3: A story to base a fan fic of should be character driven, not story driven. Good characters are building blocks that you can use and order in any way you like. But a good story will lose out if you change it.
