My game of year list so far: 1. Zelda BOTW (can't wait for last dlc) 2. Persona 5 (One of the best JRPGs ever made) 3. Cuphead (Art style, animation, soundtrack, boss designs are spectacular). 4. Digimon World Next Order (personal pick, a very flawed game, but it gave me some really powerful nostalgia feelings). 5. Steam World Dig 2 (A better metroidvania than Samus Returns) 6. Spectre Of Torment (Technically DLC, but as a stand alone it is excellent). 7. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe (Didn't own a Wii U, so to me this game is brand new - and it is a lot of fun, especially in local multiplayer). 8. Splatoon 2 (The single player was decent, the multiplayer kept me engaged for a long time). 9. Nioh (Haven't finished it yet, but the gameplay is thrilling and I like the more linear approach to the Dark Souls formular). 10. Telltale Batman Season 2 (Not completed, but is shaping up great). Other games from 2017 I've played off the top of my head: HZD - I think it's good but overrated. Didn't finish. Nier - Actually runs pretty badly on the PS4pro (wish people had told me that before I bought it). I haven't beaten it but I think the combat is fun. Don't like the fact it is an open world game.

Little Nemo in Dreamland. Extremely early comic strip from the early 1900s. Beautiful comic for its time and the game was amazing too. Check it out!

Zelda, Cuphead, Samus Returns, Nioh And Nier Automata and I’m sure Super Mario Odyssey and Wolfenstein II will be on my radar as well. It’ll more than likely be between Zelda and Mario for me. Two mainline Nintendo franchises in one year... Nintendo is killing it Side note: If you own a PC or an Xbox One please try Cuphead. I’ve been keeping my eye on it ever since it released and it has to be the best $20 downloadable game I’ve ever played. Everything hand drawn, the custom recorded jazz music.. There’s nothing like it. It’s also hard as hell but I’ve never been frustrated because I know it’s my fault that I died. I’ve never blamed the game for my own death. Simply incredible

Every time 20 questions came I wished this game would be the subject. My stepmom had an NES and I played this game and loved it but I could never remember the name. I now finally know! Thank you to the question master and the game scoop team for the SCOOP!

Absolutely. That game was incredible, and most reviewers gave a 9 or higher. I think IGN gave it an infuriating 8.9.

The IGN review was actually great, from my perspective, with the only little problem being the score at the end. Since people care so much about it, and most GOTY conversations rely on scoring, I think Steamworld Dig 2 suffered from that score, but it was still rated positively enough to encourage any hesitant player into trying it, which is good.

To be fair, 8.9 is still in the top tier of games. It just isn't in the small margin at the top of that tier that includes games like BOTW, Horizon, etc. Games that people consider must buys are in that category I believe. SWD 2 is a great game, but not quite there for most people. It's obviously each persons opinion of course and we all have our favorites. In the end, even if my favorite game of the year is left off every list, it doesn't change how much I liked it in the end.

I was sad that Cuphead didn't even get a mention on the show 6 days after it was released. It's my personal GOTY so far. Loved that Daemon's favorite C64 game was Bruce Lee, though. You got to play has the green dude if you played 2 players.

Great episode guys! Just want to add, the first Red Dead's time period was pretty accurate for the end of the "wild west", which indeed lasted into the beginning of the 20th century. Case in point, the US Army expedition against the Mexican bandit Poncho Villa took place in 1916, at the same time as Europe was in the height of the First World War (and the expedition was led by the same man who would later lead the US Army in WW1).

The only reason I got a Super NES Classic is because of Amazon. I was working in Seattle Friday morning and got a text from the Treasure Truck that they would have the Classic at noon that day at the Treasure Truck at Starbucks HQ, which is down the street from my job. Clicked the link and bought it immediately. My friend tried two minutes later and they were already sold out. But I got mine!

Infamous: First Light. I'd consider Left Behind more of a side-story as it takes place during the main games, with flashbacks to events before. God of War Ascension was certainly a prequel, so was the 1st PSP game. Australian buses are pretty much the same as U.S. buses, expect without WiFi.

Mass Effect universe suffers from the Bioware policy, which was pretty cool for a change, but also hurts direct sequels to the franchise. Since they say that the canon ending is the one the player chooses, there is no way to have a canon start for a Mass Effect 4 in the Milky Way. The "Indoctrination Theory" would help to create a canon ending to ME1, but some people hate to even hear about it. With that being said. That is my favorite franchise ever, and I want to return to that universe so badly and play a new trilogy, as well made as the first one...

I think Prey and Nier don’t get talked about enough in goty conversations, but Zelda and Horizon have a level of polish the first 2 games I’ve mentioned don’t have. Zelda is the most next gen game we’ve had in a while because of its innovative freedom and physics, Horizon is the culmination of what open world games have been doing for years and has a great story. I think those 2 and Mario are going to be top 3, with Persona very close. But what about PUBG?

Shadow of War is looking like a huge letdown. Never played Shadow of Mordor and was looking forward to picking up Shadow of War but after hearing from multiple sources that you need to buy with real money loot boxes to get certain things and even finish the game I'm going to make this game a hard pass. Waiting for Gran Turismo, Assassin's Creed and Battlefront 2!

Ocarina of Time is a prequel to all Zelda games that came before it. And Skyward Sword is a prequel too, the first in the timeline. These should be on the list, or at least OoT.

objectively i can say it goes 1. Mario Odyssey 2. Zelda BOTW, 3. Horizon 4. cup head if the barometer for game of the year is solely game play based experience and not spec based. specs and resolution should not factor in game of the year.

I guess that Zelda wins by default, but it was missing half of it's story. Everything that happened 100 years ago could've been the first half of the game. I wish the story was longer because literally 90% of the game is just doing shrines. That being said, it is still very good and deserving of GOTY.
