In this world, and in actual medieval times, incest to an extent was commonplace. Both Rickard Stark (Ned's father) and Tywin Lannister married their respective cousins, and in the case of the Targaryens, it was expected. Dany grew up thinking she was going to marry Viserys, and the only reason Rhaegar was married to Elia Martell was because he had no female relatives at the time and Elia, having a Targaryen ancestor, was the next best thing (Dany was born after he died).

In merely "weirding out" on the scene so many people seem to be missing out on the beautiful nuance and complexity of the scene. For gods sake they're Targaryens! We don't impose our values on all the other shit that happened in this show but for this we do??!! I just don't get it!! What was brillant and beautiful about this scene was all the parallels between R&L and J&D. Despite their better judgement, timing and circumstances they love one another and act on it. And like R&L, J&D are going to have a whole host of conflict as a result!! The timing of Bran's narration was also so well executed...... "He's never been a bastard.." at the moment he's looking at Daenarys with such love but also such disbelief. Because of him being a bastard Jon's never thought himself worthy and he can't believe that he has just had the Queen of House Targaryen look at him with such love.... only for the irony being that he's THE heir.

I'm sorry, but I don't understand why so many people are pressed about a fictional couple, not knowing they're committing incest, while it is also a common thing in their world. Many highborns in this world are shown to marry members of the same family not directly related, such as siblings or parents to child. I get, in our world that super nasty, I mean, you love who you love I guess, but to me it's not right. However this is a medieval fantasy world. Well, Aunt-Nephew marriage was never a common thing in medieval times either, Catholics usually needed a papal dispensation to do it (so only the super rich could do it and usually for dynastic reasons) and Muslims didn't do it. In the shows world only the Valyrians did it, probably to keep the dragonrider genes pure and when the targaryens continued it after coming to Westeros it led to the faith militant rebellions so they stopped until Danys grandparents. Of course its not just an aunt-nephew relationship in this case. Jon and Dany are related three times over, since both Dany and Rhaegar are the offspring of a brother and sister who were themslves the offspring of a brother and sister. Third generation incest, thats pretty deep into bad.

Starks have married nieces to uncles and first cousins in the past. Neds own parents were cousins. Tywin was married to his first cousin. Targaryens marry brother/sister all the time, so its not such a big deal and Daenerys grew up being told that she was to marry Viserys but she always dreamt of marrying her dead brother Rhaegar. Jon/Aegon will also not leave her to give birth to a bastard, he has always said that he avoided having sex because he didn't want to bring another bastard into the world, so he will marry her if she gets pregnant. Oh and Bran cannot see the future, he said it a few episodes ago and in this episode, so if the Nights King has Brans "powers" then he can''t see the future either, so he didn't lure them by seeing the future.

I guess it's a little hard to tell, but the actor who played Rhaegar (Wilf Scolding) is 4" taller than Harry Lloyd, who played Viserys. There's a resemblance, especially with the Targ wigs, but that's to be expected as the characeters were brothers. For those who are, perhaps, unfamiliar with inches or just comparative height impaired, that's the same height difference between them as between Jorah Mormont and Sansa Stark.

Pat is the main reason why I'm unsubscribing. Pat and everyone ruined many scenes by either being disrespectful or unknowledgeable in what they were commenting on. Not that being unknowledgeable while watching something with friends is bad, but it makes me believe that you guys missed something or where just trying to get a laugh for the sake of getting a laugh. I think there a re a few of you who actually care about what was happening and got the importance of the themes stretching from season 1-7, and maybe its just cause i watch reactors who handle multiple people better, but that was very unprofessional. especially giving HBO the finger with the fair use timer thing.
