Totally. And worse than that it's the disappearance of any sense of _mystery or subtlety_ to the world. The way that magic worked in GOT used to be thrilling; you were fascinated by what was going on with it - whether it was the gods, a single god, just some kind of force that people used. Magic was a complicated, meaningful force all of its own, with its own rules and its own history, that was only ever hinted at. Now it's just a way to pointlessly light up some swords. And then one of the most fascinating magic-wielders just walks out into the countryside to die, for no reason other than earlier in the show it was prophesied. The way that magic has been handled since they stopped following the books is totally characteristic of the way everything has been handled - with maximum stupidity and zero subtlety.

The characters and actors that portrayed them are so iconic and fixed in the audience minds, that I find it very difficult for another remake/cast to be able to fill those shoes.. For example, Charles Dance is Tywin, period. There is no discussion to it. No other actor could do the part. So.. Very unlikely that a remake will ever be made... @First Name Last Name I'll answer it right now. They didn't have "3 months" to write it. HBO offered them pretty much an endless amount of seasons to finish the show. It was THEIR CHOICE to have a 6 episode finale. Sure, it would've been difficult to live up to the standards of George's storytelling but seasons 7 and 8 didn't even live up to average TV standards. These two are supposed to be professional writers. They studied this shite and yet, the stuff regular fans write in their fan fiction is miles better than what D&D slapped together.

@First Name Last Name I've read many of your comments here. I just proved you wrong about the lack of time for them to write a decent story. I also addressed your claims about how it was impossible for them to write anything as good as GRRM's material, which I agree with. What you don't seem to understand is that they didn't need to be as good as GRRM. They just needed to write a coherent story, where things that happen make logical sense, which is something that was very much lacking in season 8. Characters act completely inconsistent, battle strategies are seemingly strategised by a toddler and events that happen fundamentally break the story. What exactly have I failed to prove wrong?

Exactly! They should've handed the show over to other people after season 4 or something. They were clearly not capable of running the show without book material and it feels like they lost their enthusiasm around the same time. There are probably some genius scriptwriters out there with a true passion for the books who would actually listen to George's vision and internalize it. If D&D had just quit after season 4 most of us would love them right now for the masterpiece that is GoT in the earlier seasons.

I feel as if s6 was really bad in two aspects: the (non-existing) Northern Lords complexity and no one caring about Cersei killing Kevan Lannister (who by then was effectively Lord Lannister, and was Tywin's brother). To me, s6 seemed kinda bad in an overrall storytelling point but still better than s5 (wouldn't call it a redemption). Otherwise, I agree so much with you

If they didn't cut out numerous characters & plot lines they wouldn't have surpassed the books. A properly adapted Dorne & Iron Islands would have been 1-3 seasons, Lady Stone heart, Young Griff etc... These hacks now have the rights to Star Wars 🤦

If i were them i would have asked GRRM to give some major guidelines or to approve some choices. They focus too much on visual effects and "cool" stuff giving zero importance to consistency of the plot. Game of thrones is not avengers. You don't fix stuff, there is no plot armor. Now is basically a fan fiction.

Right on. Those guys are probably good producers. Maybe even good editors. After all, even for a lengthy TV series, nobody could adapt the books in their entirety scene-by-scene.
