Did Rhaegar actually have grounds to annul his marriage to Elia Martell though? The marriage was consumated and they'd had kids. As far as I can tell, Jon is still a bastard and the marriage to Lyanna in the show doesn't make sense. The name reveal of Aegon in the show to me just seems like they're combining Jon Snow with Young Griff to create an Aegon Targaryen. To me it seems like the name Jon is far more likely. Rhaegar's best friend's first name was Jon, and if that's the name Lyanna told Ned, Ned would have found that very convenient, because everyone would have thought he named the child for Jon Arryn, who was like a second father to him and Robert. I think Jon is really just Jon Sand. However, royal bastards have been known to make a new last name, like the Blackfyres. I think it'd be pretty cool if the resurrected Jon started being called by some new title once people find out his true parentage and aren't really sure what to call him. Rhaegar's plan with Jon seemed to be to give birth to Azor Ahai, once he realised he was not the prophesied hero. Sure Jon having the Seven Kingdoms behind him would help, but Rhaegar didn't plan on dying, or his children dying. He might not have been shy about showing his bastard Jon Sand in court and raising him as the younger half brother of Aegon and Rhaenys. If the brothers had grown to be close friends, then Jon would have the army he needed when the White Walkers came.
@Rick_zeene6 жыл бұрын
WafflingMean44 he had grounds to annul the marriage. Annulment is basically the same as divorce and it was annulled by the high septon and the marriage to lyanna and both the annulment were documented. So I don’t see the point in you calling him Sand. Not to be that guy but this sounds like D&D level of horrible writing. How exactly would Catelyn be able to do that while she's all the way in the Riverlands? Not to mention that Stannis is most likely gonna be the one to defeat the Boltons, Battle of the Bastards is a horrible concept that GRRM definitely didn't come up with. Also I think fans overstate Ned "cheating" on Catelyn. When Ned supposedly conceived Jon; Ned and Catelyn were total strangers and certainly weren't in love. It's Jon being raised with her children that bothered her the most.
@worldview6218 Жыл бұрын
Well I think at the end of the day regardless of the true parentage of Jon snow, Ned remained faithful no matter the outcome. Personally while there is no real concrete evidence either confirming or refuting the 2 prominent theories about non being either r+l or n+a , I believe that it’s more likely imo we are gonna get the rug pulled and Jon is going to end up actually being the first born of Ned with ashara. There is a ton of supporting evidence, obviously minor hiccups as well, but it to me just feels the most right. Ashara while a lady in waiting was not in kings landing during the breakout of hostilities but in dragonstone, close to the vale where ned was. I believe Ned and ashara fell in love at the great tourney, and Brandon being engaged to cat and ned not being in line to inherit was free to marry out of love. When Brandon and Ned’s father were killed and lyanna went off with rhaegar, I believe ned retrieved ashara from gall town , then travelled through the vale on th way to winterfell to call his banners, that ashara was the fisherman’s daughter witnessed by witnesses when Ned shipwrecked on the three sisters and that Jon was conceived in these travels to winterfell. Once Ned returned, ashara who couldn’t return to dragonstone or kingslanding because the mad king was holding the princess who she was a lady in waiting for essentially captive then travelled back to starfall, and would months later give birth to Jon. Ned stark not only feeling duty and honor bound but also politically forced requiring Tully support would be forced to hastily marry cat, Robb would then be conceived and ned would then ofc go off to the war and after the sacking of kings landing, despite rhaegar being killed at the trident and lyanna not being present or a hostage of the mad king, given the missing kingsguard not present at either the trident or the capital, Ned would eventually find out in the capital that Arthur dayne and the remaining kingsguard were in dorne at the tower of joy, and upon arriving and having to defeat the remaining kingsguard guarding lyanna, that is when Ned ofc would discover lyanna, with a newborn baby and discover that she was in fact not kidnapped and went willfully. He promised ofc to protect this newborn Targaryen nephew knowing what a danger it would be given roberts fear of being a usurper and the murder of the other innocent targaryens and upon traveling to starfall to return the ancestral sword of the daynes dawn, he would discover ashara had in the time he travelled with her and would go on to get married gave birth to a baby that was Jon snow. I believe with the dominant genes present in Targaryen (though not all ofc) it’s possible that the child of lyanna had a Targaryen look, whereas Jon as the books explain was the spitting image of ned. Rather then ashara killing herself at the grief of having a miscarriage and the death of her brother to the man she loved, I believe she took the child of lyanna and rhaegar who I believe is the young griff and that Ned being now married would take jon, and raise him as a bastard. I believe that septa Lenore who was in the company of the young griff aegon is ashara dayne, and I believe jon is Ned and ashara child. I just believe that even though I do think it ofc could be r+l there is far more circumstantial evidence that it’s Ned and ashara and though the many different rumors or secondhand accounts can’t be taken as wholly accurate, there are too many second hand accounts and circumstantial evidence that adds up for me to write off. Jon being the spitting image of Ned ofc could be wrote off as lyanna genes being dominant, but there are multiple different accounts of Ned and ashara falling in love, Cersei, baristan Selma, a boy literally named Ned dayne who spoke to Arya of his wetnurse wylla(who king Robert asked Ned if that was his bastards mother) also being jon snows wetnurse, and Ned dayne told Arya he heard that Ned and ashara fell in love at the tourney. The physical descriptions of ashara also match the descriptions Tyrion also notes are present in septa Lenore and Tyrion even specifically notices that septa lemore has stretch marks as a well which is a completely odd and random thing for George to have Tyrion just randomly bring up or notice. But again even if I’m correct, Ned was never unfaithful to cat , and sure ned loved another first and she even explicitly suspected it was ashara he loved given the fact the only time he ever was angry was when her name was brought up, but ned and cat would go on to have a happy marriage and have multiple children.

I have a different theory, it's not a conspiracy. See while being honorable makes you open to betrayal, it also inspires true loyalty beyond the grave, betraying a honest and honorable man tends to infuriate to the point of suicidal rage to those who held him in such regard. The first 6 seasons of the show are great, because they are mostly true to the books but season 7 suffers because they ran out of book material to use, because it hasn't or wasn't written at the time. Film isn't as flexible as literary work, which naturally makes the books better.

@lluewhyn5 жыл бұрын
@@scapegoatanimations2191 Nice theory, but that doesn't hold water. There's a whole plotline in the books about how the Red Wedding has acted as only a temporary victory for the Lannisters/Freys/Boltons, and the amount of Blowback from their serious transgressions of social norms is going to seriously bite them in the butt. Chickens come home to roost and all that. This starts in AFFC (end of ASOS, really), which was released in 2005, and it's evident that the Freys are not only hated by everyone else in the realm including their own allies, but are also killing each other. In ADWD, it's becoming increasingly clear that "The North Remembers", and many of the Northern houses are secretly plotting against the Boltons, which is what this video is about. Although the exact resolution of that plotline hasn't been released, it's very obvious that there's a huge theme of the North rejecting Bolton rule, to the point where Roose is scared and Ramsay is oblivious. The exact particulars of where the book is going don't need to be matched, just the general guideslines. ADWD was released back in 2011, about the same time as the beginning of the show. So, no, since virtually the entire North is accepting of the Bolton treachery (Umber doesn't even mind Ramsay killing Roose!), only respects power, etc., and there's almost no theme at all in the show about how such wanton treachery has bad long-term consequences (Ramsay's men are loyal to the last), I'd say this is a deliberate decision, not inability to utilize the next book.

However I don't think that's true because in the letter, he asks for his wife (Fake Arya) back, implying that he doesn't know where she is. Theon and fake Arya escape to Stannis's army by the end of ADWD, so if Ramsey really beat Stannis, he should have found Theon and fake Arya with them.

Right. The Westerlands were loyal to the Lannisters out of fear of Tywin, especially after he slaughtered the Reynes & Tarbecks in their failed rebellion against the Lannister's. They don't have the same level of devotion or fear for Cersei & Jaime as they did for Tywin.

While Robb Stark was an honorable man, he didn't kill Karstark out of just honor. Karstark committed treason by killing not only Robb's prisoners (who were under Robb's protection), but also killing the Tully guards who had been guarding the Lannister children. At the same time, he had also ordered his army to secretly depart during the night and track down Jaime. By the time that Robb and Co. are confronting Lord Karstark, that army has already abandoned the Stark cause and are starting their reign of chaos and pillaging across the Riverlands in search of Jaime (for a promised reward by Karstark). Essentially, Lord Karstark has started TKing Team Stark at this point (Bolton later does as well). Robb's concern with killing Karstark is largely about what it might mean for patching relations with Karstark's son. There's also a bit about Edmure hoping that they can cover it up to avoid letting the Lannisters know, but they all realize that the cat is out of the bag.

You forgot to mention the fact that in the Vale, Sansa has been communicating with Littlefinger about taking back Winterfell from the Boltons as well. So there is a slight plot involving her as well.
@Schmidtactular5 жыл бұрын
You also have the fact that Sansa is now to be betrothed to Harrold Hardyng, Robert Arryn's heir of the Vale. Harrold is the cousin and ward of Anya Waynwood, who has shown displeasure at Baelish's influence in the Eyrie, but still gives her blessing for Little Fingers supposed bastard daughter to marry the Heir to the Vale all because Baelish paid off House Waynwood's debts? Or is it more likely that Anya Waynwood is made aware of Sansa's identity and agrees to allow Harrold Hardyng marry not the baseborn daughter of an upjumped minor lord, but in fact marry the eldest true born heir to winterfell and all the north
@OcarinaSapphr-5 жыл бұрын
@Schmidtallica Isn't it bastard 'niece' in the books? (I could be wrong, it's been *an age* since I last read it) - as far as I can tell, Sansa/ 'Alayne's' reveal to the Vale is what may tip the balance of power- potentially making the Vale/ Sansa someone that Dany or fAegon may have to court for an alliance. And, I mean, in some fashion, Sansa has at least a claim- to like *three* realms; she's heiress of the North- as eldest legitimate child of Ned Stark (if we ignore that Robb felt he had to disinherit her at the time {to prevent the Lannisters taking control}, & possibly Arya, too- & the belief that Bran [likely rendered impotent by his paraplegia, but I don't know for a certainty] & Rickon- still a child- are assumed dead... they're not, but most don't *know* that - & how many people _know_ about Robb's will, to legitimise Jon?). As the eldest legitimate child of Catelyn Stark, nee Tully- who was the eldest child of the late Lord Tully, she's in line to potentially inherit the Riverlands- should anything happen to her uncle, & Edmure's unborn child - her maternal grandmother's family was the last to legitimately hold Harrenhal, too. And, she's cousin to Robert Arryn- & is *also* set to marry his heir apparent, that puts her in line for the Vale itself. You can see why Petyr *needs* to keep hold of someone so valuable.

Great video. Just one small disagreement - I really don't think the Ryswells are loyal to the Boltons. Yes, they were connected by marriage through Bethany Ryswell, but she's dead. Not only is Bethany dead, but her only child, Domeric (who by all accounts seemed to be a decent guy) was Bolton's legit heir and is widely suspected to have been murdered by Ramsey. Instead of seeking justice for Domeric, Roose appears to have rewarded Ramsay for killing him. There is no way that wouldn't piss off the Ryswells. I see no reason why they would be loyal and a great motive for them to want to take him out.

What I take away from the books is this; despite the wolf pack being scattered, the Starks are the most successful family in Westeros. With one or two exceptions, loyalty to the Starks among their vassals is bone deep, not the fear that has cowed the Westerlands, the intrigues and marriages the Tyrells have had to engage in to keep HIghgarden , but loyalty to the point that the Manderly, the Flints, Glovers etc. are willing to put their lives on the line for a family which has lost everything.

I feel the Northern Mountain Clans might simply view Jon's bastardy as an inconvenience but still preferable compared to the fact Jon is an adult who has seen battle and commanded men in action. Bran might be less useful to them. A young boy (though brilliant and perhaps best suited to rule of all of them) who is crippled is not what they need right now. Rickon though to Manderly is very valuable. As a young boy, he would need someone to rule for him... who better than Wyman. Wyman can have Roose's role, but seen as a hero doing it. Then he just marries his daughter (the one he promised he would find a great husband for) to Rickon and his grandson will sit Winterfell as Warden of the North... and if things go well... King in the North. And really, it would work well for Rickon. Eventually Wyman will die and Rickon (fully grown) will take his rightful due. Another view comes with Shireen. If you support Bran or Rickon as the next Stark Lord, pitching to Stannis marry his girl to either of them is playing for the whole stake. Once Stannis wins (if he can), she would be in line to rule. And eventually a Stark would sit the Iron Throne. In other times, a Bran Shireen reign would be full of win. Their intelligence and temperment would be the second coming of Jaherys the First and his queen.

I am so curious what will happen in Castle Black after Jon being murdered. Jon is warging into Ghost, I think. Who would want to spill blood to avenge him? - Tormund and the 50 wildlings, including Borroq, who will know, that Jon's soul is in Ghost. - Val - I think, the mountain clans either. Robb was betrayed and stabbed to death by his men - same as Jon. They will see this murder for betraying and murdering their another possible king and good leader. They will want to kill the murderers either and they will mourn their another possible king in Jon after Robb. - Selyse and her southern knights is a good question. Selyse might not mind if Jon is dead, but what will Bowen Marsch do with her and Shireen? Handing them over to the Boltons? Probably he would, but I don't think, he would have time to do that. Bowen Marsch and co. won't live long enough to being executed by Jon: tormund, Val, Wun Wun, and the mountain clans will kill them first. - And probably there is another faction within the Nightswatch whom would not be okay with murdering Jon either. Anyway, four factions in Castle Black and Jon was the only one keeping them all in control - when he will be gone, everything will be fallen apart in Castle Black. It will be interesting to read...

He also wants to connect everything to GRRM's previous work like it's all one extended universe, and I'm just not on board. One of my favorite theories, cannot wait to see how it plays out. I noticed you didnt mention Larence Snow, Lord Hornwood's bastard. Stannis could legitimize Larence to secure loyalty of Hornwood men since Lord Hornwood and his only son die in AGOT and Lady Hornwood is murdered by Ramsey.

As for the Ryswells, Domeric Bolton, legitimate son of Roose and a Ryswell lady, is believed to have been killed by Ramsay. Even if they are loyal to Roose, they wouldn't be so to Ramsay.
@igguks7 жыл бұрын
Sidenote: from Theon's experiences I think we can guess that it's not starvation that causes Donella Hornwood to chew off her fingers. Probably it's because Ramsay flayed her fingers.

remember when the show writers followed GRRM instead of making it a OTT fanfic show. completely lost their way imo
@raghurampurohit52517 жыл бұрын
At first I was okay with them deviating away from the books, but they ended up oversimplifying everything. Like, Dany's solution to everything is Dragons in the show. They have basically turned Tyrion into a character who's just there to joke around.
@ShaneKeizer7 жыл бұрын
It is a sad thing really
@nuttedlemons7 жыл бұрын
hamzoloo why do you want to see the same things from the book to the show? i like being surprised, i don't like knowing what's going to happen. anyways, they really can't do anything as GRR doesn't want to reveal much even to them. he didn't finish the books so they have to wing it.
@raghurampurohit52517 жыл бұрын
I know that question was for the other guy but I'll try to answer it, the problem is that the show runners oversimplify everything. It's not that their story writing is very bad, it's just that there are better options available(Was it really that hard to let Blackfish live? I mean, it was a no brainer, but they decided to kill him to oversimplify).
@ShaneKeizer7 жыл бұрын
There are actually less surprising things going on right now, than there were back in seasons 1 to 3 ;) Just saying. The intrigue is gone, the world has gone flat.
@happymemories_videography4 жыл бұрын
I feel like there's a lot of smaller, more independent conspiracies that all the factions are planning. So its actually a really good plot. If one faction gets found out, the other factions can still move on and keep their plans alive. So, it would be a really good plot point. But, I only worry that Stannis would never agree to it as he thinks that he deserves to be king of all 7 kingdoms. So, there is that. There is also the question of Rickon or Jon who's the real king. Robb made Jon a stark, but Rickon is Ned Stark's true son. So there is that as well.
@ShipWreckedBard443 жыл бұрын

D&D did Edmure so dirty by having the Blackfish die in Riverrun. Edmure helping Ser Brynden was his last act of defiance before ending up back in chains - and arguably/realistically was the biggest punch he could have thrown at that point. Ser Brynden isn't just some throwaway character, but just like Ser Barristan, they kill off characters for what I am sure are astoundingly stupid reasons.

Fantastic video as always. It's something I hadn't previously considered, but Stoneheart crowning Jon - perhaps even being key to his resurrection - makes a lot of sense to me, and would bring Catelyn's arc to a satisfying close.

If I remember my books right, and i admit it's been a little since I read them, doesnt Lady Dustin absolutely HATE the Starks? Wasnt her husband with Ned at the tower of joy and got killed and so she blames Ned for that and even tells Theon this in the crypts? Or am I thinking of another Lady?
@rayravernous43765 жыл бұрын
She hates Ned with all her heart. Whether that translates to Starks in general is unknown.
@Ichishi55 жыл бұрын
She might be lying to avoid suspicion.
@markbernardvidad4595 жыл бұрын
She is lying. She hates Ramsay for killing his nephew Domeric, Roose's eldest son and heir, whom Lady Dustin loves and adores. She also hates Roose, for letting Ramsay kill Domeric and doing nothing. Above all, she hates the Starks for taking away Brandon and his lord husband.
@controbot25574 жыл бұрын
But who does she hates more? The already dead man who is responsible for the death of her husband and not bringing his bones back? His family who so far had done nothing wrong to her (though, her hatred for Ned could've been extended to the rest of the Starks, there is no telling with a person seething with anger) or the bastard who is highly suspected of killing his brother, has done numerous detestable things to fellow Northerners and even High-born, mentally sick by all accounts and is the heir to all of North and his father who quite possibly have known about Ramsay's killing of Domeric and not only allowed it but rewarded him by making him his heir? Also by all accounts it appears that Lady Dustin really really loves Domeric

Your videos are always both informative, concise and well-produced. The way they smoothly transition from clip to clip is a great choice for emphasising the correlation between two points discussed in the commentary. It makes them both easy to follow and easy on the eye, and the clearly-spoken narration makes them equally digestible podcasts as they are videos.
