Poor Torren Stark, honestly made the right choice. Tho I imagine the North could do what Dorne did. And if Aegon was foolish enough to stay in the winter I imagine his entire host would starve. Think of the North like Russia, Russia can keep retreating endlessly until winter strikes, then they watch their enemies starve and from the snow and while they grow frail an army marches forward and pushes any conquerer back. To be honest I Imagine the North would have an even better chance at beating Aegon than Dorne, far more places to hide and the Dragons I imagine would struggle in the Winter storms. Plus all of Aegon’s armies aren’t trained for the cold, so they would struggle mightily. Kinda wish the Starks didn’t kneel but I don’t think it was the wrong choice. Also one last thing the North seems to use the most Magic than the other Kingdoms, I am curious if they could use any of it to help.

Those two jokers behind the show even admitted that they bit off more than they could chew in terms of story strands. They didn’t plan out where characters were going to end up 😑. That kinda reminds me of how I impulsively imagined stories in my head when I was an infant playing with action figures. “Now this thing happens…..annnd now this….” I think the story goes that HBO also didn’t want to do anymore seasons and demanded they wrap the show up, despite there being enough material to keep going for several more seasons. All the sophistication, intrigue, meaningful dialogue and suspense of the early seasons got replaced with shiny special effects, lame Marvel-style quips, and rushed, inconsistent, cheesy pay-offs that undermine the tone that the show had built

Isn’t the book explanation for why the Lannisters are in debt way more convoluted? “Their mines ran out” sets up the necessary plot points without requiring hours of additional scenes to explain. Also Randyll isn’t saying the Tyrells could have beaten the Targaryans, he’s saying they should have died honorably rather than surrender - just like he ends up choosing death over surrender in the second Targaryan invasion.

Sean Potts After eye surgery, I’m relegated to audiobooks, and I was so disappointed with Roy Dotrice mispronouncing names, and his impressions of other voices were so slurred and thick, I couldn’t understand the dialog. I loved Roy as an actor, and realize he won’t be doing the remaining audiobooks, but was really disappointed with his reading.

Ehh... as Varys says when Petyr makes that argument in an earlier season's one of these, "As soon as" is a strong statement when they lasted for a century after the last dragon died and even then had been dwindling for some time before. Losing their dragons didn't lose them the kingdom. Their own civil conflicts lost them both, first their dragons in the Dance of Dragons, then finally the kingdom in Robert's rebellion.

If you think about it, if Viserys hadn’t have wed Daenerys to Drogo, he could’ve been sitting on the Iron Throne right now. Sponsored by Illyrio Mopatis, one of the richest Magisters of Pentos, Viserys could have gone to the Iron Bank of Braavos and secured a loan to fund the hiring of the Golden Company, one of the most powerful armies in the world, descended from Targaryen blood and with a founding doctrine of one day returning to conquer Westeros. If timed correctly Viserys could have sailed to Westeros shortly after Robert’s death with the questionable legitimacy of his children’s right to rule spurred by Ned Stark and Stannis Baratheon. Championing this rumour, whilst proclaiming his own right to rule as the oldest living son of the last King Targaryen, Viserys could have capitalised on the souring sentiment towards the cruel King Joffrey to sway the support of the common folk to his favour upon claiming Dragonstone which had been left undefended by Stannis who had gone off to war with his own younger brother. With increasing legitimacy and support and the Lannisters busy fighting the rebelling Starks in the North it would be a matter of sweeping the Stormlands out from beneath the feuding brothers as the victor moved on Kings Landing. Dragonstone is no strategic or entirely valuable position anyway so why risk the loss of men on retaking it first. Next would be an easy alliance with the Martells of Dorne, who’s Prince was brother to Rhaegars wife and who’s court was still seething with bitterness over her and her children’s murder. With that the South would be unified in one front against the Crown with another fierce war being fought to the North, where the Lannisters had lost every battle, along with Jaime Lannister. With no help coming from the Vale of Arryn the crown’s only hope left would be the Reach, who had just lost their alliance with Renly Baratheon upon his death. With a shortening list of allies and the Crown being nowhere near a safe bet, Olena would decline the proposal of marriage between Margery and Joffrey and more likely claim for Viserys, using the Reach’s armies to launch an attack on the Westerlands before the Lannister forces could make it back South to defend their home. Meanwhile, the Golden Company, reinforced by the armies of Dorne would move to lay siege to Kings Landing, from both land and sea, knowing a surrender was imminent, with at this point a rebelling populace and no chance of reinforcements coming to the King. With that 4 out of the 7 Kingdoms would be under Targaryen rule and Viserys could use the now seized Lannister gold to satisfy his debt with the Iron Bank. Facing a larger and united force, with no cause to go to war with the new King, as their original war was to free Ned Stark, the North, along with the Vale and Riverlands under them would be more likely to sue for peace or at the very least a truce.
