LOTR any times of any day. And LOTR Books are superior to ASOIAF books. I actually wanted to hit something how much crap really is in those books and nothing ever is explained, action scenes mostly are like season 8 where someone is in some situation and then chapter end and you need read dozen chapters to see what happened with that person. Example when Mors Umber in ADWD was outside Winterfell with young recruits during blizzard acting like Stannis is near to confuse Boltons and their allies in Winterfell and then Boltons and Freys send army and Mors grinned and that was never explained in book. Only in prereleased chapter of AWOW Theon said that Freys and Boltons falled down into trap Mors and his recruits dig infront of one of entrances and thats Why Mors Grinned when he saw that his trap worked. Game of thrones is just LOTR porn parody. Only real characters were on North. Game of Thrones is made by Nihilistic way of looking on things and everybody is ready to betray anyone if they have chance which was never true. Peoples will fight for their ideas, country, home, faith etc.. till death rather than surrender. TV show had 73 episodes and nothing reached LOTR scope what Peter Jackson did with just three movies.

Doesn't matter, Game of Thrones has much less fantasy to it. Both are very different with some similarities. LOTR is great because of all it's many magical creatures etc, a whole new world. GOT has some of that too, but obviously took some inspiration of LOTR, but GOT stands out in the dark realism in what humans can do to eachother. I love both and both are great, I personally prefer GOT though because I hate the good vs bad thing with a few hero's saving the day.

Mr. Max Yep, the Lord of the Rings is actually an entirely different genre called "high" fantasy. Game of Thrones is more dramatic and focuses more on humans.

According to Wikipedia, high fantasy is when the setting is entirely fictional, which is true of both ASOIAF and LotR, however LotR has a lot more fantasy elements to it (partly due to the fact most of what we know as modern fantasy elements come from LotR).

honestly I think while they happen in similar settings, the direction the writers went with that setting are so different in feel and tone and purpose that we can just love them both for what they are and comparing them seems useless.
