I'm an enormous fan of trick-taking games--I played Bourre at work during lunch almost every day for ~10 years--and this game super duper intrigues me. Complicated and interesting mechanisms! But, *hoo boy*, that wildly varying color temperature on the backs of those cards would drive me bananas. Given the card counters I know, I'd have to sleeve the games in opaque sleeves. No choice. That stinks. Very cool design-wise, though! Thanks for showing it off.

I'm learning the game now and have the rules in front of me. Question: Do you need to follow color? Page 6 of rules under When playing a card after the first card: "Players who play a card after the start player may declare any color", as long as it obeys Rule 1 and 2. Thank you!

If you don't follow color then you are declaring that you're out of that color.

I really like the look of this game, although seeing the wear on those cards after playing four games isn't a good sign.

How is trump determined? Is it always red?

I'd say his more orange than red.

Yes, red is always trump, and it's at the top of the player board, so you need to take that into account when deciding which color to lead. If someone is going to jump into trump, will they possibly cut you off from expanding your tokens in the direction you hoped...although that will often happen no matter what you do. -WEM
