Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII is supposed to be the good Final Fantasy XIII game. Try as I might, I could only come up with a few positives buried in a pile of negatives. I think people just really wanted the XIII series to go out on a good note. The good note is that Final Fantasy XIII is finally over.

They devoted resources to making all those outfits for Lightning but all the older characters wear the same thing.

Lets also ignore the fact that in every game the characters find a new excuse for why they have magical powers. First it’s because they’re all L’Cie. In the second one Sarah and Noel get there powers from the chaos that leaked from Valhalla. In the 3rd one Vanille is given the power to speak to chaos by Bhunivelzah, Snow becomes a L’Cie for the 3rd time in the series,Dajh somehow can control and split his soul into fragments,Hope is turned into a puppet by bhunivelzah, Fangs magical was probably given to her by bhunivelzah so that she could protect Vanille. Sazh somehow still has his powers for some unexplained reason. Even the eidolons are still alive. Odin got reincarnated as a fucking Chocobo.Hell the only one besides Lightning that even remotely changes there look throughout the series is Snow in the first game he had a white trench coat a bandanna and boots. In the second he ditched the bandanna and switched to a black trench coat. In the 3rd he has on an all black outfit and long hair.

But this was so confusing and h Difficult to grasp that they gave up on the concept. This is why fabula nova crystallizes FF13 was renamed FNC: FF.

Persona 5 did it with style. You can be utterly ridiculous, but charisma will always disguise silliness. Every jrpg have that, but Persona just do it right. Also, it's hilarious to me how the japanese writers follows the sentai cliche even to this day (red sentai is the main guy, but he need other colored sentais to help and blablabla)... but, the japanese society is very repressed, almost not social at all. How can you write about friendship if your people doesn't know how to make friends?

It’s like how if you don’t have the stallion scene, you can’t really call yourself barnyard porn." Also, I am vastly surprised that this video was shorter than expected. Sure, a lot of the fetch quests arguably had to be cut, but I still think that there were a LOT of notable problems, I mean the restaurant mission alone was PALACE GUARDS ARE CONDUCTING A SEARCH FOR THE THE INTRUDER CALLING HERSELF "THE SAVIOR." SHE HAS ROSE-COLORED HAIR AND IS CARRYING AN ENORMOUS WEAPON. CITIZENS ARE ASKED TO REPORT PERSONS MATCHING THIS DESCRIPTION TO THE NEAREST SECURITY OFFICER. and the hats were also silly. I mean, KH is confusing, but it's more a case of Nomura being Nomura, and adding more characters and expanding the universe while forgetting about his previous stuff. The stories contained within themselves are still good, and they're all pretty consistent in themes within the KH series. With the XIII series, it's a pretty clear case of executive meddling and not editing out too many ideas. Like Dartigan said, each of the games could've been their own standalone plot with nothing tying them together but the characters. Each of the XIII games seems like a mix of wasted potential and "wtf", whereas the KH games are just "wtf".

I have feeling neither did the developers knew what they were doing. The trilogy was soo messed up you don't know what going on half the time. The developers i guess wanted too look like they can sophisticated in story telling. But, i guess they don't know what they were doing so the got people in a room and wrote drafts for the plot within a week an passed it without reading it twice. An probably did the same thing at 13-2, an lightning returns and said "hey lets put all these plots together it would look great". But it comes off more like a convoluted, not well thought out mess, and makes you wonder why even bother making two sequals.

Honestly. I can say this game is my fav from the 3. I have fond memories of the original but since you can move Lightning in cardinal directions during combat I haven’t been able to go back to 13 or 13-2. That, and the fact her sprint makes me feel a rush of “this game is kinda cool”

mikigirl18 at most you missed a sometimes fun combat sistem. Everything else was fucking trash. Even the time restrictions and fetch quests were only there to distract you from how little enemy variety there is and how small is the game world. I had fun with the game but it's like a 6/10 tops.

Unpopular opinion: Even tho the game were pretty shitty in some points (Story, logic, backround character designs, boss battle designs, etc) I really enjoyed this game. I absolutely loved the battle system and I were a big fan of the soundtrack. And I really loved the ending of the game I had to cry :') the final fantasy 13 trilogy are my favorite final fantasy games and I still enjoy playing them💙 My favorite of the trilogy was of course final fantasy XIII because even tho the in game graphics were shitty sometimes and you can't jump (:'( ) I really loved the story and the boss battles! This final fantasy got me the most

Kudos to you for actually making it through. I managed to get through 13 and 13-2 myself, but 13-3 was just THAT bad that I gave up halfway through. It's like they admitted they weren't even trying anymore. "Oh, our characters are unrelatable and seem dead inside? Eeeh..uhhh..god took away there emotions! That way we don't have to bother anymore with TRYING to write them like real characters instead of props!" Weird enough, Lumina got written in that setting, and may be the best character in the entire 13 series..

I thought I'd ran out of love for the Final Fantasy series for not being able to play XIII after the first part. Thanks to you, and to everyone else that has commented below, I find myself pretty reassured of that decision. Although I played the demo for Lightning Returns and enjoyed the class-changing "new" feature . I thought I'd buy one copy just for that. Again, thanks to you, I saved money. I swear, it's like Nomura and Toriyama had a fatal case of self-indulgent altruism. Like, they were more interested in trying to teach high-minded morals and beliefs than making an actually good game plot. Ironically, it shot their intentions to hell, because they were so engulfed by the beliefs they wanted to pass on that they worsened their own games and jaded players instead of inspiring them. In Toriyama's case, it was worse because he began treating Lightning less like a fictional character and more like his real-world daughter, which may have lead to not just her, but all his characters being treated as perfect and thus lacked any sort of improvement or growth. It's ironic, too; they would've actually had a better chance of passing on those beliefs if they just focused on making good games and let people decide what they may from those games. I believe the applicable phrase is, "You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make him drink"...?

6:36 I had no idea Final Fantasy was that obvious about its pop culture references. I'm playing through the story of FFXIV, the MMO atm. Just got hold of an airship named the Enterprise. When we first launched, the NPC I had following me went "Enterprise - engage" when it launched. Further down the line, I hunt down 2 engineers for that same ship named Biggs and Wedge..

Sin 150: probably because in the second game, he had the power of Chaos. In the third game, he became entwined with Chaos. There's a subtle yet apparently significant difference, that being the same difference between wielding a weapon and melding it to your body.

He said Lightning's motivation was always the same -- but that's not the theme of the trilogy. The theme of XIII is defying fate _(which they fail at anyway)_ The theme of XIII-2 is...actually, that game was such a mess I can't even pinpoint the theme. The theme of LR is death and rebirth So, no. Not the same.

The worst story in all of Final Fantasy in my opinion, the 1st game didn't explain things(the gods are the single most important plot point and most people had no idea about Bhunivelze/Etro/Pulse/Lindzei/whatever the mother was called) so just confusion, add in 2 more games more convoluted than Kingdom Hearts and you have kinda the ultimate hot mess of a story. All the plotholes and contradictions.
