Yeah I actually got into a chat with someone doing the same shit and their reasoning was the transport, setup, lot rental and personal time made up the difference they would've otherwise discounted. I smelled quick justification but those are factors. However when they weren't willing to haggle is when I had to really question it. Flea market is all about the deal, the quick exchange, the stone resolve. Refusing to haggle when no counteroffer was even made is prick bullshit and I don't dig it.

+Wolfsite kinda have something like that at mine. a guy who owns a pawn shop sells his dvd's and games and electronics. for the same price at his store but thankfully he doe take the time to look up what they go for and minuses a for dollars from there retail price. granted he will still not do a lot less even for damaged labels

Exactly. You have to leave standard business acumen at the door at a flea market, so by default its a complete joke for a normally ran business to try and run the same at the swap meets. Cant blame em for trying, but it is completely silly.

My peeve is boxes and manuals that survived decades in good condition getting suddenly DESTROYED once it ends up in the hands of a seller who doesn't really care. You know the type: piles stuff onto it in a crate full of sawdust or slaps stickers on it or writes on it.

another thing people don't realize when pricing off ebay is that ebay takes a LOT of your money in seller and listing fees. if you own a store, it's a MINMUM $15 bucks a month to have a store, plus ebay takes 10% of your sale and doesn't include shipping in there, either. then you have transfer fees to transfer money back and forth, then you have taxes (if you're self employed, that's another 20-25% right there, no joke) so if you're going to price things off ebay, take these things into account. if you're going to buy things on ebay, remember this before making low ass offers on the "make an offer" listings.

at yard sales and flea markets. i hate when i ask a price of something and they bust out their phone and check eBay. ESPECIALLY when they show me a few "buy it now" asking prices. i always tell them to check the "sold" box to show then what people are actually paying. even then, i don't go searching these places to pay eBay prices. it's getting more and more common.

Ian's peeve about customers jumping into conversations can also happen at flea markets. Have had several instances over the years of finding something and playing it cool with the seller only to have some random guy unrelated to the transaction exclaim "Hey, that's a rare one! Just on eBay for $$$" or some other crap to spoil getting the item for a decent price. Seller then makes up some excuse on the spot to keep it or claim the price sticker is incorrect.

I'm with Ian, mostly because of my experience working at a gamestore. When someone calls up about a trade-in, I usually just tell them to come in the store before I can give an exact quote. If they bring in beat up roach motel consoles, I don't take them, it's not worth my time.

Working in auto parts for years. Ian’s pet peeve about the people who act like they work there… It hit my soul. Nobody cares about an amateur opinion, they came in to ask a legitimate question and want a legitimate answer. I always would attempt to give my customers the most informed answer I could honestly present, but when someone else chimes in from the peanut gallery who knows nothing about the subject it just boils my blood. I feel you Ian.

Flea market pet peeves: when everything is locked up behind glass: huge turn off for me. When something doesn't have a price tag. When things are unorganized and I don't see the seller anywhere in sight ( if there no seller around I'm not going to buy anything) And when no one will take a decent deal: one guy has overpriced stuff and when ever I try to make a deal, buy a few things for a better price and talk him down a few dollars, he refuses

I've been working at a game store for five years and people butt in and act like they work at my store CONSTANTLY, people always get angry and frustrated with me because I tell them to stop, they're giving out false information most of the time and just basically taking away business from us. Everyone wants to be Mr. Know It All! There's a difference between committing something useful into the conversation and being full of yourself and thinking "JUST CAUSE I PLAY VIDEO GAMEZ MEANS I KNOW ALL KINDS OF INFO ON VIDEO GAMES I MUST HELP OUT THE GENERAL PUBLIC" Also the tangled cords are ridiculous. It would save MY time AND the CUSTOMERS time ten fold if they just took the couple minutes to just help the transaction go smoother. as an ebay seller i find it annoying when 'anything' is priced the same in person. Not taking into account the final value fees and possibly shipping if they offer it for free. Give me a break, if I wanted to pay that price I'll just order it off ebay then from the comfort of my home.... and hell I have a variety to choose from in terms of the condition. If you're going to do ebay prices in person, take into account the fees, thats my take on it.

hey guys love the show. had a question for ya. been going to a local retro store for the last month ( almost on a daily basis ) and I've built a good report with the owner and employees... to the point where one employee has shown me a recent acquisition I don't think is for sale yet. a Nintendo system in the original box ( styrofoam in tact and all pieces still in plastic bags ) and its NEVER BEEN PLAYED!! the box has some wear on the outside but everything inside is mint. what would you value this at ?

You know what is a pet peeve for me at flea markets? They sell games and consoles at ebay prizes, or even anythign at abay prizes or game store prizes but at least here in germany they don't even whipe the dust of them, I mean what is with this shit? Why should I buy something that looks that much like shit that I need to clean for hours on end?

I've seen people do what Ian was talking about, and that shit can get really awkward when some guy cuts in to answer a question and actually gives wrong information. Then the employee is put in a situation where he pretty much has to correct them and hopefully not seem like a dick in doing so. Either that, or just say fuck it and leave the customer in ignorance.

I would hate dealing with situations like that because I bet a lot of people react defensively and take it like they just got one-up'd or something. I guess at some point it would become second nature to handle, but if it happened every week I would probably snap lol.

Flea Market Pet Peeve: "I'm selling it for a friend. He will only sell it for X" Sometimes true- most of the time, it's someone who wants top dollar, does not want to haggle over the price and uses a 'friend' excuse to get you to take it or leave it because they won't adjust a price for an item if the other person (who is never there) isn't there..

That remind me 1 time... I was purchasing a pc at a place i already worked. (It was a place that was recycling pc that people/company gave them and i was working on repairing/rebuilding pc in the workshop in the back) And that time there was a guy that came in the store. He started to ask the seller if they could reinstall window and reinstall WoW on is pc, seller was selling him the service but i step in and said, making them reinstall windows was ok since they would have get him all the driver and stuff but for WoW it was a freaking bad idea. He said yeah but it's take a freaking long time to install and i said exactly, and here they charge per hour, so if you can just do it at home for mostly free do it. Seller looked at me with big eyes, so i left. :/

Sun damaged items. To me that just shows you as a seller do not care about the items you are selling. I also hate the phrase "you won't find a better price on _________ anywhere else". That might have been acceptable pre-internet days but my android phone can look it up and call you out on your lies.

@gameboypunk660
@gameboypunk660 8 жыл бұрын
+TheBrainScratcher A smaller game library means better quality games and less junk theirs only 200 games worth playing on ps1 and again the games on ps1 are mainly games you play once and put on a shelf, games on the n64 have much more re-playability and fun to play oh and most 3d platformers on ps1 are ass total, busby 3d bad.

+michael hall (Rwanime442) I've had to have conversations like this with some of our employees. We have an honesty policy. It's simple. Did the person ask you about the game, specifically if it was good or not? Then tell them your honest opinion. Did they bring the game up to the counter and not ask any questions? Keep your trap shut. The reasoning is twofold: 1) It's insulting to the customer to insinuate your taste is better than theirs. 2. We do need to move these games. If they don't ask get the game out the door. Plenty of reasons someone may want a "shitty" game.
@michaelhall736
@michaelhall736 8 жыл бұрын
Ian Ferguson And most of the time, I didn't ask about it. I'm glad it's a policy at the store you work at. I wish Gamestop had a policy like that. Either they have it, but don't enforce it.
