Once had a seller at a fleamarket get so angry with me at trying to haggle down a price on something ( I don't even remember what it was, I think it was like a Crash Bandicoot race car thing...) that he stepped on it and broke it saying "I'm not going to sell this to anyone if they keep on offering me only $5 for it!!" Yeah.............that was worth it...

Thomas Torre Yeah it's weird. I don't understand their thought process. I see illegals at my flea markets and they refuse to sell games for decent prices. They always have the same crap too. It's always the same stuff from the time before...they just never sell anything. Which is crazy because you'd think after X amount of time they'd realize that to keep their shit going they need to move some items. It's so simple to understand, but they refuse to do it.
@ShopkeepMike9 жыл бұрын
Thomas Torre This x1000. There's a flea market near me in Hamilton and this lady at a booth has a TON of various systems and games, and is just asking outrageous prices for them. "How much for Diddy Kong Racing 64?" "$ 45" "$45? That's the absolute maximum ebay price!" She even has a glass case full of various manuals and boxes. I asked her if I could look through it, she said "It's not for sale." WTF? Then why do you have it out?! I even explained to her that if she let me look through it, i'd pull out at least several manuals that I want to buy, but still, "They're not for sale." I even go there every few months and she always has the EXACT SAME stuff out all the time, which leads me to believe she doesn't sell ANYTHING because she's asking such outrageous prices on everything, or hell, they just don't want to SELL anything. It just doesn't make sense, they don't realize that "hey, maybe i should lower the prices on these so I can move these and actually make money" It just makes me go like wtf is wrong with these people...

If I remember correctly, one time she quoted my friend 300 or 400 dollars for a ColecoVision. I also remember seeing a Gold cart Nes Zelda 1 which I believe she was charging 80 bucks for. This was about a year ago. Absolute insanity. I actually did buy a Master System from her for 70 bucks quite a long time ago. Horrible deal back then, but now, not so bad. I've also seen her at the thrift stores close to and further away from there as well.

Its funny when people treat old video games like they're rare gems or bone china, for years these things weren't particularly valuable which made them fun to trade and collect, now its like people are trying to put their kids through college flipping old Nintendo cartridges and it just takes all the fun out of collecting.
@namebrandmason9 жыл бұрын
M. Oliver What's sad are the guys who are collecting and hoarding games like they're a long term investment. I'm in my thirties, my brothers are in their forties, we grew up with the NES. Where do you think the value of these games are going to go when people in our age group burn out on collecting? The next generation are going to want to collect Playstation or N64 games, their kids are going to be looking for undiscovered GameCube gems. Collect for fun, collect for nostalgia, but this is about as good a financial investment as Beenie Babies and Baseball cards.

I remember years ago at a local jockey lot where I used to look for old video game consoles and games there was a little dispute between two Japanese sellers. The wife of a man who sold all types of game consoles and games would go around the flea market early in the morning and try to pick up good deals on games and such from other sellers and bring them back to her husband to clean up, test, and resell. She happened to be right beside me when I was trying to buy some games from another Japanese man, and she started trying to tell me that none of his stuff ever worked and he did not clean and test them, but all of their stuff was guaranteed. The little man got so upset he started hollering and screaming back at her and he actually came to tears. She was smiling the whole time. I felt like I was in a very weird situation but thought she was in the wrong. I went ahead and bought a couple of games from him, because he seemed very nice and genuine from the get-go. She just walked off with this smirk on her face. Needless to say, I had absolutely no problems with the games working that I bought from him, although they were a little dirty. I actually prefer that, because I got them cheaper and I cleaned them up with no problem myself. I never did buy anything from her husband at his table, because I thought that was kind of shady and disrespectful of her, and I got the feeling that that was the way they did every weekend at the flea market.

I was at a flea market about a year ago and was looking through the games when one guy next to me about 15 or 16 slipped something into his pants. I looked over at him and saw three PS3 games sticking out of his pants, I told the guy selling the games he had games in his pants, the guy that took the games looked at me like he was going to kill me. He put two of the games on the table then ran, the guy selling the games ripped off his shirt and started chasing him. They both ran out the door and a few minutes later we heard police sirens and next week the guy selling the game was there carefully watching his games.

There's always some people who go crazy with pricing, the sellers who want you to price their items for them because they're worried they'll price them too low. So when you do give a price they usually say more etc .. and i always say, if you know how much you want for them, then just tell me.
@teamhex9 жыл бұрын
Lost Evesy Those people that want you to price it...I always play stupid. I just go..."I don't really know what it's worth or anything, I just remember that game when I was a kid...$4?" That way they normally don't jump up anymore...they still could, but at that point I just pretend it's not worth that much just to play it again. I'll even mention downloading it online or something.
@TortureBot7 жыл бұрын
teamhex I have played dumb sometimes with things at the flea market. I think it relaxes the seller more and they are usually willing to let the item go for a very reasonable or low price. But if you let them know you know exactly what it's worth or that you know exactly what it's for, like when you're buying some type of electrical testing equipment, they will want more money for it. If they are there to sell it they're not going to let it go for less than a price they probably have in their mind anyway, so I don't feel too bad. I know when I buy it I am going to use it and it would be better in my hands than sitting in the back of their van or in their garage in some box. I don't hardly ever buy things to resell anyway, it's just for my own collecting purposes or use in my hobbies.

This is similar story, though with comics. This comes up to me in my room at fleamarket with a box of around 30 comics. He says he doesn't know what they are worth and DOESN"T CARE WHAT HE GETS FOR THEM. I look it a them. Most of them I would put in my 2 for $1 bin. A few that I would sell for a $1 or so. He is also selling to me knowing I am going to resell them, so I need to make a profit. I tell him $10 and he acts like I'm crazy. I'm mean first off that's a fair price, I'm offering to pay almost half of what I'm going to resell them for which is better than most sellers would do, and he just friggin' said he didn't cared what he got for them!

I said yeh there's some good games here but the majority of it was junk and I offered $50. She flipped put and said no way - So I said, would you split it up and sell me only the decent games + console for $30. She refused and said no splitting up. I said ok thank you and walked away. I did a double take, back past the same store. I noticed the shit games were still there and all of the good ones were gone. I asked if she would reconsider an offer on the games and she said, no, $100 for the lot. I commented that she had already sold the good games and there was only junk left. She repeated, $100 for the lot. I just walked away.. lunatics...

75% of the selling business is emotional. Sometimes the seller had a bad day and flips on you It has happened to me before. But that doesn't mean he will do it again. If he is not a total dick he will realize he was wrong and will try to make it up to you specially if you are a loyal customer. The other side of this comes down to trust and sadly no seller will ever trust you.

Also I bought 8 45s for $2 which makes 25 cents per record. If you don't know any value on records, please don't call me a douchey asshole unless you're kidding.

teamhex I believe it's real. How old are you? I didn't think it was real until I got a little older. I'm 45 & my wife is 43 and we both started experiencing it within the last couple of years. It mostly affects me when I'm just relaxing watching TV for a long time in the recliner and I have to get up and walk around for a while or it drives me nuts. I'm still pretty active too and am moving around on a job all day. She admittedly has a desk job and she probably is affected worse and hers affects her all night while she's sleeping, whereas mine does not affect me at all while I'm in the bed but only when I am relaxing in a reclining position. It is annoying as crap and people who have never experienced it can't comprehend that it is real. You get really antsy & feel like you have to wiggle your legs and stuff like they're getting numb, but usually just getting up and doing something will immediately make you feel better. Sucks.

Perhaps the guy had a bad day? Why break a friendship over such a small matter? Go back to the seller and ask him what's up?
@TaskMaster58 жыл бұрын
+andywolan It's not up to Pat to fix the relationship. The seller completely over reacted, if the story is 100% factual. If he had a bad day, he should have stopped Pat or approached the next time he saw him and apologized. I can't stand when people expect the person who wasn't in the wrong needs to 'be the bigger man' and apologize when they have nothing to apologize for. It also seems pretty douchey of the seller to flip out on one of his frequent customers. If it had been a stranger, I could see the reaction being slightly more appropriate. But if it's someone you've dealt with often and have formed a bond with, enough of a bond to SET ASIDE product for, like he did in this case? Yeah, I'd be in Pat's shoes and just wash my hands of it. A customer isn't supposed to try to attract and keep a seller. That isn't how customer service works. A seller should be the one working hard to keep people coming back.

True, but people are human beings, and people have bad days. And no, i didn't say Pat had to apologize, but rather talk to the seller and give the seller a chance to explain himself.

New developers should get paid and there should be a market for that. But retro has gotten sick. No retro game should be over 3 bucks

He's upset because people price themselves out of a sale. If you're at a flea market asking 150 bucks for a SNES, two controllers and a super common game, no one is going to buy that. It's priced outside of what a retro gamer is going to pay for it. I see guys do that all the time, 100 bucks for a NES and a controller. I cant test it without power, a tv and a game and I'm not paying more than 20 for something that I cant for certain say will work. Don't try and charge me 50 bucks for Super Mario World, don't try and charge me 75 bucks for Mario/Duck Hunt, Mario Bros 2 and 3. People do that shit all the time and I've seen it first hand.
