I wondered for a while why Drowned felt creepier than Zombies. Then I realized it’s the arms. Zombies arms are always up. Drowned put their arms down at rest. It looks similar however I don’t think they are the same thing. The square at the center is larger than the part that produces laser and you can only get command block in Creative. You could argue that they could have changed to Creative mode, but then if they could, they wouldn’t be wiped out.

Sometimes thinking back at this and using some knowledge of death of mechanical stuff and death piles of animals, I think that the Guardians die in a pile to make a prismarine Structure called an Ancient ocean Monument or they ignore mechanical death completely and just were born of some sort of magic being in contact with Prismarine.

Theory: the guardians orange protrusions are made of copper, which is why the elder guardians variants are blue, because they oxidized. Why did they oxidize in water? Because the elder guardians weren’t MEANT for the water. The ocean monument wasn’t underwater originally yes. The elder guardians were the original protectors, since yknow they weren’t as needed because the ancient humans could also assist. But as the ocean slowly flooded the temples, newer, yet less weaker guardians. We’re made and taken to the monuments in large numbers. all the guardians, including the elder ones were given tails and underwater enhancements to aid in the protection of the holy monument, thus the newer guardians never oxidized, since they were always underwater.

Also the fact that when a guardian hits you, you get a debuff which prevents you from mining. Most players will find this as a slight nuisance in their quest to get to the gold. But what if it was actually the guardians mechanism to stop you disturbing whoever they are worshipping, if that was perceived to be the house of their ‘God’ it would make sense to do everything you could to protect it? I mean it doesn’t seem to have much affect on the player so it wouldn’t be for attacking prey or defending itself. Unless they are there for the sole purpose of protecting ‘Gods house’

Drowned don’t suffocate yes, but he also mentioned they they’re the only creature who don’t outright die left on land, which true, because eventually drowns will either burn from sunlight, or literally despawn if they’re on land too long.

MATPAT! Here's a crazy theory for ya on the origins of skeletons. Your zombie disease video makes sense, but doesn't explain the skeletons. No disease is going to keep a pile of bones floating around. You'd need magic to do that. Here's a quote from the Mobestiary, " Some have proposed that skeletons are ancient adventurers raised from death by an evil sorcerer." In the game Minecraft Dungeons there is a group of ancient necromancers who live in a desert temple. They have blue glowing eyes (the color of souls) and when they summon skeletons, you can see small blue souls float away from the summoning area. They even shoot soul fire blasts! But why are they themselves undead? Another fun factoid that could help support at least the part of the theory that suggests the guardians are built and not natural creatures is their preoccupation for squid. See guardians only are hostile towards two creatures naturally (unless provoked by another mob through collateral damage like getting hit by a stray trident from a drowned) the player and the now two varieties of squid. Now this in itself wouldn't be all that interesting as evidence in support of the such a theory if not for the fact that the only type of prismarine related block that can't be crafted solely from the drops of guardians is Dark prismarine. With the key component missing being black dye, which while not exclusive too is primarily crafted with squid ink, the only other source being wither roses which I don't think the guardians would keep on hand given the nature of that items spawning (also worth nothing that the recipe for dark prismarine used to be made with the ink sack item as opposed to black dye up until 1.15). Now the fact that the guardians drop the components necessary to create the blocks the ocean monument is made out of is something I could see you arguing a biological creature might be capable of if it is say born from the prismarine. But the behavior of hunting the one creature whose "Oh god that's scary" sack is used to create a new block made with said parts of it's brethren suggests at least to me that this is a task set by a creator as opposed to the tendency of some fish born from the rock. Now the reason this task was put out to the guardians could allude to the followers who worship whatever god Matpat believes the Monument was built for hold great value in the block, Which makes sense with it's use for the core of the monument and the distinguishing details on the front. But regardless of the overall reason I think Matpat's assertion that the guardians are made is more likely to be right then not.

The elder gaurdians and normal predecessors sort of are machinery. You can see behind the eye, the lazer diode/eye is attached to a block of something, in order for a high power lazer to work and not break, it would need a heat sync, such as made of the white metal, iron. The brown flesh is copper as they would need something as a circuit board or for some electronics. and the stone part below the brown flesh/copper, another thing needed for electricity to work is a insulator, and stone is a perfect insulator. AKA a lazer attached to a fish/organism. AND the last factor is that the beam in the mobeistieary shows that it is purple, hinting to possibly a lens made out of amythest.
