Gamecube not reading discs - potentiometer, laser or capacitor issue?? We go through it all!

This vid is kinda old now but just in case you see this and do another one of these just twist the caps off with some pliers or sidecutters. The legs let go from the caps before it damages the board. Then you gotta desolder the legs which is very easy to do with your iron.

Im having an issue with just one game (thankfully. And surprisingly enough my GameCube despite is a dol-001 is still holding out strong even wirh a working calendar and clock still and no battery replacement.) But for some reason i seriously don't know why or what the actual issue is but when i try to calibrate the lens it does read Pokemon colosseum but only on the first try then when i restart or tunr off and on the console it will play but when it gets to the Nintendo logo then gives the "the disc could not be read" error despite evey singe other GameCube can read this one game just fine. Yet my GameCube literally plays every other game just fine even colosseum's sequal, gale of darkness plays with 0 issues and i literally had rhe game disc resurfaced twice as well tested every time to make sure the game worked still before anything.

bit of a tricky one given all other games work, yet that game works in other gamecubes. Hope you can work something out

I open mine the same way and tried the potentiometer and did not see it work and i know its not the laser. This is a bit advance for me to do so my game cube is just pack in storage until i could get someone local to do it. Good video though

Nice job on the fix. 3 out of the 4 of my Gamecubes seem to have a issue with capacitors. Im just too afraid to fix them myself cause I don't exactly have much experience with soldering.

very goo video. The correct way to repair the reading of optical driver is to replace the capacitors, especially the c408.

Yeah the cap kit had 10 caps in it so c408 was probs in there cant remember now, but it works!

i had to go through the same thing last year, glad someone made a good detailed video, ive been getting alot more with the bad capacitors recently

So the disc does spin but then it stops and I get the no disc message ..

if you leave it on for 10 mins and then try does it read at all? Do you have a multi meter and the ability to open the console?
