in all seriousness i wish kieran had some special dialogue to reject ogerpon and terapagos, it would really showcase his development in indigo disk & the epilogue. maybe start with something like "wh-what? (terapagos/ogerpon)? no thanks. it CHOSE you and... i can't take that from you again." then show his acceptance with something like "besides, i don't need it to prove myself and i'm just happy that it's in good hands. take care of (terapagos/ogerpon)!"

Honestly, him giving you an Applin makes sense because he's from Kitakami, and from the beginning there was an emphasis on its rice patties and apple orchards. It's quite literally a symbol of his homeland. Also I remember in Pokemon Masters (which isn't canon, I know) Victor gives Mallow an Applin which she trains into a Appletun, and he ends up getting teased because people think he's interested in Mallow due to the tradition in Galar but he denies that being the case.

You may not speak for Ogerpon, sure, and Ogerpon may have chose YOU, but if you trade it to someone for another Pokémon, you're entrusting it to that person. If the player feels Kieran is best fit, then they're not doing it to betray her, but rather give it to someone more worthy than themselves. Kieran after his ordeal is TOTALLY worthy of Ogerpon, and I wish it was an option to trade. About the ones in your party, do you know it's cannon for a Pokémon to ASK to be caught by you in game and anime? I've had one show up randomly and ASK in my game to be caught by me! So they CLEARLY have a choice when the matter arises. Not just that, but when you trade a Pokémon you leveled your friendship status with, just to trade it away for a Pokémon you think is better than it, don't you even once think it hurts them, just a little? I'm telling you to imagine being in that situation.

Same though. I never wanted to hide that we knew what was going on with Ogrepon from Kieran. I never agreed with taking Ogerpon even if it was a legendary and likes me. I mean, yeah, I wanted Ogerpon, but I also wanted Kieran to have the partnership he should have had with Ogerpon. He could give it a good home and he WANTS to. Honestly, it almost felt the same as taking Cosmog from Lily, even if it was for Cosmog's safety. I wanted the legendary, but it didn't feel narratively satisfying. Maybe I'm too used to the show, where Ash has yet to catch a single legendary despite interacting with all or nearly all of them.

Imo whether Kieran canonically knows about the custom or not doesn't matter, because what matters is the implication it gives to you, the player. SwSh are the last gen and the Applin quest is one pretty much everyone who filled the dex there did. It's still on people's mind, evident by how many people point this out. You could argue that they only chose Applin because of his Hydrapple, but many of the other trainers give you mons unrelated to their aces or mons that already evolved, so it was absolutely a deliberate choice beyond his ace being Hydrapple. As for him being a kid... I mean yeah, so is your player character. If the game implies a teen having a potential crush then so be it
