Wo-Chien really feels like it was purposefully designed to be a counter to Urshifu-R, it's just a shame that as a Dark type Urshifu can just click Close Combat and still likely nuke it if banded. Imagine if this thing got Matcha Gotcha for spread damage, healing, and burn chance, it'd be an absolute terror.

I really like this trend of a group of legendaries that each have a different variation of the same ability. It gives the group a really memorable gimmick, and at the same time gives each of the Pokémon their own personality.

Like, maybe I'm just crazy, but we have so many already, and Scarlet and Violet added a whopping *12* if you count the DLC (Koraidon, Miraidon, Ting-Lu, Chien-Pao, Wo-Chien, Chi-Yu, Ogerpon, Okidogi, Munkidori, Fezandipiti, Terapagos, AND Pecharunt)! They just don't feel quite as special as they used to.

Are you going by the lore or strictly by wether or not you could catch all four in the same game. In Sun and Moon, you could only catch 4 Ultra Beasts per game. What about them. What are the rules. Which ones do you cut, and which ones do you leave in. If we’re being just a bit lenient, we have… The useless trio + Pecharunt/Ogerpon (depending on your personal evaluation) The Treasures of Ruin The Swords of Justice + Keldeo (the ones OP was referring to) The Lake trio + Cresselia The Creation Trio + Arceus The Weather Trio + Enamorous The Guardians of Alola Necrozma is his own quartet So is Zygarde, if we count his single celled form The Regis (pre gen 8) The elemental birds + Lugia The elemental dogs + Ho-Oh Even if we leave out the mythicals (again, which is something that we cannot do), we still have about 9 or 10, depending on who you recognize as the 4th member of the useless quartet. If we also leave out the Regis, since they now have 6 members, that still leaves us with 8 or 9 quartets. If we leave out mons with multiple forms, then we have 6 or 7. If we leave out those that span multiple generations, then we have 3 or 4. If we leave out those with a defined leader, then we only have 2. So what is it

Legendary pokemon which form a cuartet by similiar typings, similiar form of obtaining and being treated by the game are Treasures of ruin, Tapus and Genies.

Obtainable in the same game ✅ Share a type between all 4 members ✅ You obtain them in a very similar fashion ✅ Share the same niche during gameplay ✅ None of them are mythical ✅ They are all connected via the lore ✅ They are as much of a quartet as the other ones you mentioned. Same goes for the Regis. You can catch them all in the same game (in fact, you need to catch the first three in order to get Regigigas), they share similar niches during gameplay, and they are connected via the lore. The only thing they don‘t share is a common type. But that doesn’t matter. You wouldn’t say that the legendary dogs shouldn’t be considered a trio because they lack a common type. Same goes for the gen 3 weather trio. Or the Darkest Day trio. Or whatever Kalos‘ trio is called. I could continue this whole thing with the useless quartet, and the dogs + Ho-Oh as well. Meanwhile, the genies were originally meant to be a trio. The idea of making them into a quartet came later on. Enamorous connection to the other three is in every regard strenuous at best, non-existent at worst. You literally just called them the weather genies. What kind of weather is love? Why do they count and the others don’t. Why do mythical Pokémon not count? Keldeo and Pecharunt very clearly belong to the Swords of Justice and useless trio respectively. They came out during the same generation, share a common type, fulfill similar niches during gameplay, share the same ability, are connected via the lore etc. etc. Your „criteria“ here are just arbitrary, contradictory, unnecessarily restrictive, and just straight-up do not make any sense.

Incidentally, I did have an abandoned fangame writeup where the player would need to defeat at least one Treasure of Ruin in order to get it and block out the villain's psychic power with it. For each one, I had an effect attached to it: Chien-Pao: Gets a few raid shields (like in gen 8, but without actually dynamaxing). It can use Swords Dance. That's all it needs. Chi-Yu: Steals three of your Revives, and uses them when it gets KO'd. Hope you like Overheat! Ting-Lu: Immune to almost all damage, but slowly "leaks" hp; you have to survive while keeping it from healing too much with its Shell Bell. Wo-Chien: type changes to resist your current Pokémon's STAB moves.

The Quartet was supposed to be even stronger than they are today. Before the official release all the mons had higher stats. Chien Pao had 10 more attack, Chi Yu had 10 more spatk and the bulky ones had even more bulk. GF probably realized they were going to be way too broken and toned them down before we even got to see how broken they’d truly be.

I have been playing with Specs Kyogre and have learned that Tera Water, Helping Hand (from Farigaraf), Rain+specs boosted, Modest, one shots Amoongus and Raging Bolt with Water spout. It’s insane how many games I can get away with because most people don’t play around it. Wo-chien would live it for sure, such a tanky unit!
