i just remember that 1 encounter where you have to delete the Viola A.I. from Ardjet. on the highest difficulty you pretty much 1shot Ken's frame if you fuck up.. hardest part in the game.

ZeroHyperGaming Nier: Automata kinda brought the feeling back for me. It was def a throwback to old school, creative(and unconventional)game design. I think Kojima, Yoko Taro, and Shinji Mikami are the only ones left with that style

That line is what sets the stage for ZOE 2. In ZOE1, you were playing with Jehuty (a nerfed mech) and Leo (an inexperienced pilot). They weren't a match for Anubus+Nohman in ZOE1. However, in ZOE 2 you have Jehuty (at its full potential) with Dingo (an elite pilot who could go toe to toe with Nohman). Now they are.

This game is great. The gameplay itself is little more than flashy hack and slash with ranged weapons available, but the real work is being done in the subtle philosophy presented in the narrative. It really makes you feel bound to jehuty like dingo is.

I wish I could have nostalgia goggles for new games. I get emotional watching this intro, I wish I could get this invested in modern games. Honestly the plot or gameplay aren't that special, it's just that this was back in the day when games were something special. Now they've become something you just do when you don't have anything important to do. Back in the day I would CRAVE going home from school to play this. Now the games I play are just a way to fill the everyday boredom. I wish I could say the games have changed, but honestly they're more engaging than ever before, it's just that I don't get as invested. Fuck.
