I know there is a preconceived notion that Todd Howard is some bad corporate type of company man, but I've watched a majority of the interviews, showcases, discussions, etc. and followed the company and it's games for a long time and his vision and reasoning for how he wants these games to be don't always line up with what they actually turn out being. He seems genuinely interested in making great open world RPG experiences and always has big plans and ambitious directions on how to improve each game and their individual aspects. He has acknowledged and spoke about quite a few bad creative decisions and other mistakes. Dialogue is one of the main things that Todd spoke about, like in Oblivion he wasn't a fan of how the speechcraft minigame turned out. In Fallout 4, they wanted to try something different with a voiced protagonist and the new dialogue system but knows that it didn't work as well as they wanted. In Skyrim, when they implemented the more intuitive magic system, he spoke about how spell crafting was too number based and "spread sheet"-like and that it wouldn't work well with the new system, but also that they had ideas and plans on how they can change and improve the spellmaking in the future. People tend to complain about the games they have access to and how the games aren't exactly how they wanted instead of enjoying the games for what they are. Todd isn't perfect, but he is definitely credited with helping provide us some great memorable and enjoyable gaming experiences and worlds to invest in.

@@castleclash2816 I hear what youre saying. Todd obviously hasn't devoted his life to videogame development as a money grab, especially since when he started his career videogame development wasn't a viable option for striking it big and rolling in the royaltys. Matter of fact it was a very uncertain time and it was very difficult at times, like when daggerfall was in development. But as time rolls on and the industry has become the behemoth it is today its easy to see the mans flaws, those flaws being the countless rereleases of a game that is of now 8 years old for no other discernable reason that its a money grab. He has made many statments on camera about how a new game will be, just for the game to come out and his statments to ring more of a lie then him speaking too early on it, and said feature or function to have been scrubbed or changed for release. "Keep it simple stupid" killed fallout 4 and with each release of their games it gets simpler. And simpler... As the CEO of bethesda (a zenimax owned company) he needs to assume all responsibilities for whatever reputation his company earns, especially since he's the face and voice of the company. I want to believe that he still has heart and his Zenimax over lords are controlling him from the shadows, but thats not what it looks like. At all. But thats exactly how its supposed to be since hes the figure head and face and voice of his company, and thats exactly why he has this "preconceived notion" as you put it. His companies reputation is HIS reputation (its a bit stunning to see that effect as well.) Most all of your comment was based on your observations of him as a developer rather then a sales men and was compleatly formed to support him without any acknowledgment of his faults. Im stepping counter that. Bethesda has become a greedy company that has turned its head away from the pure love of making games and cranks out garbage like 76 as a money grab. With all the time between releases and the money they generate that could be used to go into game development, they have a gym, a chow hall, long lines of awards and trophies down their halls, they commission statues of power armor be built, they flex their veiny, gold dusted [explicit]s so the next time they have an interview the camera crews have some fluff to powder their footage with and further wave that rod in our faces, just to tell us "Hey stupid, buy it again, dont you love this?!" Thats quite enough of that. Quite enough. With all this time and money they have there is no excuse for 76 to have been such a dumpster fire it was, it was damning proof that they just dont care about their quality. Then was the canvas bags. Then the nuka dark fiasco. The refusal of refunds for 76. Bethesda is a step down from EA in my book, but I dont know who EA's CEO is. I know Bethesda's. Fuck Tom Howard.

@@dudebro8811 There are quite a few stretches, false statements, or exaggerations in your emotion filled comment: The Skyrim PORTS were not rereleases to try and Garner hype for the game or reignite popularity, they were just ports brought to different platforms for more people to have access to while ES6 is still years away, just like how the Witcher 3 is being ported/"rereleased" for the Nintendo Switch, its consumer friendly options. You'd be surprised how many of the "lies" were things that DID change before release, or things people misunderstood. A good example of this was the "200 endings" for Fallout 3, which was referring to the variations of different combinations of the ending slideshow scenes that would equal 200 total variations of how the game could end the stories when it was said. When it comes to the "simpler" approach that some people try to claim, many of the old systems were changed, improved, or removed because they weren't intuitive or they were convoluted. Just because you and others don't see and understand why certain choices were made, doesn't mean they weren't made for good/specific reasons. Things change all the time throughout development, things don't always have the end result or impact for players that was intended. There were some things that were removed or changed for each game, but there are also MANY things that were added in and improved too, but people tend to overlook all the details because they want to focus only on negative things they are upset about. Todd Howard is the Game Director/Executive Producer for Bethesda Game Studios, not the entirety of Bethesda, he is not a "CEO" and is NOT responsible for the entire companies actions. As for the "faults", the main fault I would say Todd has is being too 'ambitious' with his plans for how he wants these games to turn out but is always limited by technology or deadlines. F76 was made from and idea of a Fallout experience with multiple players sharing a world and interacting following Fallout 4, they played around with the idea and decided it would be fun to make an entire game as a 'side project' to try something new, not because they wanted some easy way to make money, they make tons of money just from their single player releases, tens of millions of copies sold usually. They also wouldn't stick around paying for years of development and content if they wanted "quick cashgrab", it's a game they plan on supporting and improving for years, giving FREE updates and add-ons. You can just ignore the Atom Shop, you DO NOT need anything in it to play the game. F76 wasn't a game they had a lot of experience making when you look at their past games, they also had to restructure the framework of the single player engine into a server based multiplayer engine while also making instancing technology work beside it for each player in a world. This was something new for them, just look at all the companies that make the same games back to back and still have problems even though those studios ARE experiences making multiplayer games repeatedly, there will always be problems in games, some more noticeable than others, especially when it's something completely different. They also aren't "cranking out" games like F76, it's a spin-off side project like Blades, both made and handled mainly by secondary studios. The main studios are STILL focused on bringing traditional unique and enjoyable single player open world RPGs with Starfield coming up and ES6 after that. They have also hired for many new positions, including engine programmers to overhaul/build their technology that they are already working on for future games. Starfield will be the first to use this new engine build/technology, F76 was still using the older build. Overall, you should be more informed and calm down, people tend to let emotions cloud their judgement and reasoning. Definitely way too much complaining and blowing things out of proportion when it's entirely unnecessary. Just enjoy the games, or provide feedback and criticism when needed, no need to lash out like so many people annoyingly do.

It works on games with clear cut good and evil choices, do either this and you're good or that and you're evil. But *its arbitrary and doesn't even take into account the context of your actions or affect the game in the best of times in an RPG with so much emergent elements and player choice.* The reputation system, where doing actions towards specific factions and them reacting appropriately to those actions, is the only realistic of the two.

Agreed. I also like the fact that they're trying something unique with the flaws system which is linked to the difficulty. Far too many games use +/- damage modifiers for difficulty and call it a day. I know it's not an easy thing to do, however even with the A.I. gap compared to other technical advances in gaming not up to par (yet) there are creative ways of making difficulty options interesting.

So I've bought Switch ports from console games, and alot of them run pretty smooth. Sure, the resolution and graphics take a hit, but it still looks good and runs at 30fps. I take the bus to work so i love having the switch to play my games. OuterWorlds looks awesome, and i'm def gonna get it on console so i can have it on the big screen. I'm just saying that if they port it to switch later on , ill most likely double dip so i can play it on the go. You all need to stop hating on someone else's opinion. if you don't want it on switch, then don't buy it on switch. easy as that.
