I had thought the stones were always just a prison vessel but the body could also be a similar vessel. Soulstones are intensely magical items meant to house souls. The demons corrupted them, and I figure they altered the stones to be able to be embeddable into a host body for the sake of possession. This means that the stones would be specifically enchanted not to interfere in the workings of the body and even compensate by augmenting any damaged tissues and magically taking up the slack. So the wanderers brain damage wouldn't be an issue, nor would the stone impaled within Tal'Rasha's sternum. Diablo enjoys the augmented power he gets from being bonded with his stone, so he forms his new body to incorporate it. Baal did not need the raw power because he had a plan for the stone, so he wore it like a charm after using it to rebuild his own body which took longer to do than Diablo's intensely painful yet near instant transformation.
@rvcoone20183 жыл бұрын
Great explanation! Your hypothesis feels spot-on with how the soulstones operated in the game. Curious question though, did the game ever reveal where Mephisto soulstone was embedded? Nice video! Here's the thing that has always bothered me. The ending cinematic from D1 when the Warrior jams the soulstone into his skull CLEARLY happens in the Caves part of the game, but like... Diablo doesn't die in the Caves. He dies in Hell. So did the Warrior go all of the way back to the Caves before shoving the stone in his head? The whole soulstone thing could be explained in the original D2 like this: it holds Diablo's evil / soul, when the warrior had it embedded long enough, it either transferred the warrior's soul to the stone or the stone was empty as Diablo was fully in control / integrated into the warrior's body. When Diablo takes his original form, the crystal regrows again, in the same way as nails, hair, horns or whatever does, for animals. A physical part of a fully (re)grown prime evil. Hence why he didnt' have it at his innitial transformation back to his Diablo form, when he still was recovering and building up his old strength.

Magic in Diablo seems to often take the form of fusing 2 separate things into a new thing that shares the functions of both its constituent parts. @RJ_EhlertАй бұрын
@@ryelor123 That's an insightful observation. The deep lore (if I recall correctly) says there was one god alone and it split itself in two. That made the eternal light and the many dragon-headed prime evil. They in turn ripped each other to pieces, creating new less powerful beings; the angels and demons. Humans, being descendants of the nephalem, themselves fusions of demons and angels. Humans having shown the ability to become stronger than archangles and prime evils. By this reconning, magic which fuses brings about something closer to the original most powerful being.

Well, if Tal Rashas teaches us anything, the soulstone contains the Soul, but it cant contain it for too long, thus the need of a host to fight the demon. What i dont understand is why Tal rasha looses control when Marius takes baal's soulstone off his chest. It clearly shows, that tal rasha just became baal, so why ejecting BAAL's soulstone, set him free? Did it kill Tal Rasha's in the process? That is something i wish was clearer. And i guess you dont need a soulstone since you have a host, but pressumably diablo was making another just in case there were another diablo killer who decides to shove it in it's head, to keep the party goin. I guess that Warrior from d1 just wanted to fight him since he knew diablo's soul is in the soulstone, but had no other means of containing it, since it is Tyrael who knew of the Hellforge, not Horadrims. Cuz if they knew, would they stick Baal in Tal Rasha instead destroying them in the Hellforge since they were potent enough to slay Baal in the first place?
@DarkLOREDash3 жыл бұрын
Tal rasha was bound with a binding stone & a broken Shard of Destruction. Hence why he was bonded at all. The horadrim knew the stone itself wouldn't hold him. Why taking it out of tal rasha released Baal was due to the Shard only being half of the containment

It's a universe where you can teleport and potions heal any and all wounds. I'm sure a super crystal can get plugged into your body no problem.

Fun fact, the voice actor for Marius also did the voice for Grom Hellscrem in the epic cinematic where him and Thrall kill Mannoroth.

You neglected to mention that after defeating Diablo the second time, you must take his soul stone to the Plane of Hell. Then, smash it on the Hell Forge! I've always wondered: why weren't you tasked to do the same for Baal and Mephisto? Couldn't they return?

I just interpreted it as - the guys who made the cinematics considered the early trailer as canon, and that the soulstone the wanderer dropped no longer contained the evil in it, but rather it had transferred itself to live in the wanderer. Then once he transforms into Diablo, he grows a new soulstone in the mould-like shape on his head.
@manoqueenz3 жыл бұрын
That makes sense. Always hate bs arguments like "it is not canon". Sometimes a story just doesn't make sense, doesn't mean something isn't "canon". Your explanation fixed that for me!

if i was to guess on the lore or create it myself I would have edited it to have him rip it out in hopes to remove diablos presence but as it hits the ground and the chariot leaves have the soul stone fade to symbolize that diablos "Soul" was no longer in the soulstone and in fact the two souls have already Merged and there was no more stopping his fate, and that's why he had that crater in his head and why when he succumbs to diablos soul a new soul stone is created and juts out of his head.
@andrehil3 жыл бұрын
I like your version better haha. Also because it explains the cinematic where he drops the soulstone. The new one ignores that, I guess.

Deckerd was never able to tell what he did, so after he shaved the stone into his head, it was not suppose to be visible The real plot hole is how Marius was able to get everywhere we do all the quest to get to, while deprived of sleep can’t fight and barely functioning, after he was no longer with the wanderer, and tyreal actually expected him to be able to get through hell

They could have at least added some whispering to the end cinematic of D1, like Diablo was coercing him into putting the stone in his head
@recramorcenlemniscate79453 жыл бұрын
Solution: He did discard the "stone" in the SC2 trailer, & it came out of his head. When the stone was shoved into his head, Diablo's soul or essence was put into Adrien, but as time went on, he couldn't handle the corruption, so he tried to remove the stone & subsequently healed himself. Still holding the stone & still being corrupted by it he leaves; on the road he discards, as he is now weak, without hope, & just doesn't care anymore. But because Diablo wasn't killed, & his soul unmerged from Adrien; Diablo either recreated the stone, or manifested the stone within his skull, which would explain the immeasurable torment he was experiencing on the road.
@amphitheatre3 жыл бұрын
your last sentence is the problem with that interpretation. if he can recreate multiple soulstones, why just have one? you could create dozens and be sure to never be defeated because a few would always be out there somewhere. jeez that sc2 trailer really did a number on the lore in a manner of seconds.
@recramorcenlemniscate79453 жыл бұрын
@@amphitheatre no, because I said or manifest. Or another way to think about it is, after Aiden dropped it because the soul stone was still bound to Diablo, the stone manifested itself back inside Aiden; to reassert itself over Diablo.

For me it makes perfectly sense. An idea can't be killed! This is what Diablo is about. Fight between light and darkness. Or difrent said: good vs evil. Or honesty VS corruption etc. Etc. Every human can be corrupted. Especially the depper you dig, so more corrupted you get. See politics, manager etc. The longer they stay in power the more corrupt they become. So this game tells about all human evils. Corruption, terror, lies, etc. That leads to the prime evil.

That salvation trailer was probably a teaser, whether they wanna admit it or not. That's like Clive Barker's Jericho, where the trailer showing the templar chained up in present al khali never happened, but was later played on with another templar in game who is entombed (and the last sane one).

It's easy to explain honestly, Diablo knew he couldn't spawn and then travel to Lu Golein because he'd need to find the tomb first and if he was revealed along the way then it would attract other heroes to him just like the one who killed albrecht or the ones who had put him in the soul stone in the first place. He would need to travel in disguise hence occupying the body of the wanderer in the first place. He probably needed the body in tact what was why it was such a battle, not just for the hero but for diablo. Trying to keep all that raw power contained so he didn't accidentally destroy his vessel too early so when we see the hero struggling, Maris was wrong, it wasn't the hero struggling to contain Diablo, it was Diablo trying to contain himself and the hero's spirit was never there, he left when the crystal entered his skull. Or maybe he could have been absorbed into the crystal which opens all kinds of other doors. That's my fanfic anyway.

I find it delightful to see that Blizzard South has a proud tradition of knowing better and doing whatever they want since as early as Diablo 1. /s
