Idk, this seems less like the problem is Kung Lao's pride and more like the others taking issue with how he doesn't conform to their preconceived notions. Because Kung Lao doesn't let his opponent's stature, positions, origins, power, or any of the sort get to him due to his confidence in himself he's seen as an egomaniac. Its not like his confidence is just limited to himself either, he has enough faith in his friends and allies to call them the greatest generation.

I'd love to see how the next MK handles Kung Lao's character, it'd be a relatively simply character arc of him learning to balance confidence with humility, but it'd be great to see exactly what leads Kung Lao to think so highly of himself.

The funny thing is he was a farmer for most of his life and is actually only recently a martial artist. The fact that he is keeping up with some of the best fighters in the realms that have learned combat from childhood is probably why he has so much ego
