I am experimenting with your code the couple last days. Not only it works perfectly, but it is suitable and extendable to fit any possible scenario I can think of. Thank you so much for the time and effort you put on this!

From the first second of looking at this video, I can already tell it's nigh perfect for what I need to learn. Something which no other camera tutorial, reddit post, or even the manual has acknowledged. Pre-emptively, thank you.

Damn good tutorial and insight into views, viewports, cameras and that display manager looks super sweet. I already downloaded and fiddling around with it; I think that's very powerful to understand and learning to control this!

Amazing tutorial and asset. I agree with one of the other posters: $4 is nothing for an asset like this. I really hope you keep going with the videos. I subscribed in hopes you do!

Great video! It’s really nice to see a tutorial which explains a feature of Game Maker in expanded detail. Not many tutorials tend to do that nowadays… Out of curiosity, do you plan on doing a video explaining the 3D side of Game Maker’s features?
@badwrong Жыл бұрын
At some point maybe when the engine finally gets a modern graphics API implementation. It's currently decades old, and that makes doing simple things in 3D require more resources and processing that needed.

Could you make a tutorial on changing resolution and the aspect ratio with it?

There is a missing obj in the project called "ast_navgrid". It crashes the project if you press F5.

I'd have to look into it. You can just delete the line of code or comment it out.

I'm a noob. How to I get this into my project and how do I get started using it?
@Kuzyn Жыл бұрын
I don't know, maybe I'm too stupid to understand this but I can't get it to work properly. Firstly, I have no idea why in camera_lib it's set to 3200? Doest it really matter to me? I mean, what I understand it determines how many pixels of a game room I want to show right? What if those dimensions are higher than a room size? Secondly, in display_lib from a project downloaded from github it's set to 800-600 and works really fine. However if I try the same setting in my project, when I go to windowed mode, my first and only camera is in the top left corner (I've changed its settings to 1,1 scale) and does not fullfil the window. Another problem is that I cant see a GUI when I'm in fullscreen mode but when I switch to windowed one, then it appears. Could you explain a little what could be wrong here and how to setup this? Maybe something is wrong with my files because I've downloaded it from github and wanted to implement in my project by copy-paste method of all events, layers and objects' parameters, but it looks the same to be honest... maybe one from the marketplace would work straightaway but I wanted to test it if I am able to learn how to use it before I buy it.

Could be anything if you already have a project setup. For example, existing viewports and cameras in the room could conflict.
@Kuzyn Жыл бұрын
@@badwrong it wasn't a big project, so in terms of viewports and cameras it was clean. Thats why Im wondering what happened. Do I need to do any extra work when I want to use only one camera in windowed mode?
@badwrong Жыл бұрын
@@Kuzyn you shouldn't have to do much. Ensure the right objects are persistent and use the user event to setup cameras.

Thanks 👍 for your example and tutorial. How would I make a 720x1280 or 1280x720 phone keep the aspect ratio and gui in proportions🤔. I want to have full screen on any device but everything keeps its proportions.
@badwrong Жыл бұрын
?? Did you watch the tutorial even? At 32:00 it literally shows my solution handle scaling between horizontal and vertical aspect ratios automatically.
@Brian-vs9sd Жыл бұрын
@@badwrong LoL. I was thinking the same thing.
@memine5595 Жыл бұрын
@@badwrong No I watched it till about 25:11 because I thought it wouldn't dive deep into mobile displays and keeping gui buttons in the same position and proportions of the view.What I did see I liked but couldn't fully understand. It's strange that yoyogames don't make something built into gamemaker which covers all this for everyone already.Even templates for making a mobile game which already handles all of this would of helped lots of people. But thankyou that you have made a tutorial and example that we can benefit from for mobile or PC game development.I will have to watch the whole tutorial and see your tips on developing for mobile screens then.
@badwrong Жыл бұрын
@@memine5595 this does mobile displays just fine. Just drop the diplay_manager into your first initialization room and create a camera in it's event user 1 event. There is nothing extra to build into GM for this stuff. You may want to rotate the camera by 90 degrees when the device is held sideways of course.
@memine5595 Жыл бұрын
@@badwrong Thankyou i have watched the full video now.I know many who have had grief with all this display and gui buttons stuff so I'll let them know about your hard work at trying to resolve it all for us.Personaly as much as I like GMS I do think yoyogames should make some kind of template for a mobile or PC display and gui manager or build into GMS itself some kind of intelligent display manager which gets put into the compiled final game so many especially new gamemaker customers don't have to worry so much about their game display and gui going all over the place on different devices. But at least there is GM fans like yourself who strive to make the GM Community and GM better⭐ Thanks again👍

Thank you. I'll be adding camera shake and other convenience features later as well. The optional price is mostly for those often asking if I have a Patreon or something to help out. I hope this gives an easy option for that.

Hey thanks for your great video! Can you make similar tutorial like this just for pixelart?
@badwrong Жыл бұрын
There would be no difference for pixel art. You should still use the full window resolution in order to support sub-pixels. Most tutorials teach that wrong.
