The fact there's a freaking film called gamer from 2009 that almost no one has talked about for the last decade is something which elludes me.

I feel as though this movie are the things I often see in my nightmares. But I am so glad we have since moved on from the whole "epic gamer" attitude that was in the late 2000's and early 2010's (for the most part), while simultaneously fearing an all digital, always connected future.

This seems like a wild movie haha. It's baffling that Gerard Butler actually made a movie called Gamer in 2009 lol. Interestingly, it's directed by Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor who also directed both Crank movies and Ghost Rider: Spirit Of Vengeance. Those are bonkers but fun movies. This was an interesting video! Btw, Amber Valletta damn...

I love the intro shootout. Butler using some semi-tactics, he looks like a badass with the AR and vest. The shootout is glitching with desync and random lags, like sadly most of online shooter games. Awesome sound design.

I vaguely remember this movie lol. I never watched it but I remember seeing TV trailer commercials for it and after seeing this review of it, I can definitely say that I don't really find it all that appealing. I was about 18 when the movie came out and I was never into online co-opt shooters like Call of Duty, Modern Warfare, and other games of that nature so the premise didn't interest me off the bat when hearing what it was about in those old tv commercials and after seeing footage from the movie here, I can tell I would be annoyed of how the women are treated like eye-candy decor props in it (sorry, just being honest here). In saying that, I can see why this movie would have a cult following for those who grew up with it, it's pretty much the late 2000s/early 2010s Hackers (1995) movie and I suppose in that way, that's kinda cool lol. Also what you said about the term "gamer", I never thought of it like that because while it's true that there are some cringe stuff some gamers do, I always just looked at the term as a descriptor to describe someone who likes to play videos. How they behave is a whole other thing but the word alone is pretty obvious what it means. It's like people who call themselves "Artists", we just call ourselves this to express that we like to draw. But that's just my thoughts on the topic of course. Anyway good review, this definitely felt like a time capsule back to the early 2010s LOL

I don't believe that anyone in a creative role on this production had ever played a game, or even seen a game outside an of advert. Having played online games, nothing about Slayers rings true or makes sense. The only good part of the film is the dance number.

I love Gamer, it’s pretty goofy but I think it’s super underrated, especially as a huge fan of the Crank movies. That being said I also enjoy the Death Race remake starring Jason Statham, which has similar commentary on the prison system and a tournament similar to that of Slayers

Oh yeah, I remember a friend of mine, his mother took us to the cinema to go watch it. Dropped us off at the cinema and just later picked us up after the movie was over. Was like 15-16 years old, and it was pretty enjoyable back then. But hey, I was just a teenager. Looking at it back now, I will say the the concept is indeed very interesting, but definitely cringe a bit with some of the stereotypes.

Is this a new intro you cooked there or i missed it earlier, either way this movie has already been discussed to death so i have no interest in watching another take Was my initial thoughts but you always have something new worth discussing or some new insight where i haven't heard of before. Like always tbh, same with the prototype vid, you always have something note worthy to say, humorous or not and that's why you're awesome. Keep it up lad

Wasn’t even aware this movie even existed till now. Despite the cringe on display and the nausea inducing glitch effects strewn throughout, the use of vibrant colors in some scenes is eye catching. Could definitely do without that sweaty greaseball though but any scene with Amber Valleta in it makes me feel like she’d be perfect for a Cyberpunk 2077 movie. Fantastic movie review Jak, I love this type of content. You’re damn good at it!

This was hard to watch all the trash/overdone stuff of action, teen whatever and look at the west cover gaming in the most yawn worthy way possible. The sense of cool is just so who cares. A fair look at it but eh I can't stand these movies even in 2009 let alone today. Glad I'd never heard of it gets dusted under the rug even if it has relevance which is fair it's a bit eh regardless of covering the topic in a fair enough way. Ah someone that codes, yeah hacking scenes are always laughable. But still the budget is impressive for what this is. That and the cake and eat it too approach of messaging to viewers and having a gaming but action movie rescue someone. Also I hate nightclub scenes and other nonsense it puts me off all the time. Gamebox 1.0, Mythic Quest (the least terrible of western one), Grandma's Boy and now Gamer The Movie. Then again Real Guy was pretty good for a game world movie. That or Scott Pilgrim with game references. Ready Player One I found the movie better than the book. So hopefully this is good..... Which it seems pretty eh, ok sure that's it, eh pass. Scott Pilgrim sounds more interesting and it's just a comic with game references with a No More Heroes style plot and I never even saw that just a review/analysis and it sounded more interesting. I mean they are what they are. New Game is still my favourite game development anime/show in general and nothing has topped it (it isn't perfect but it at least shows the development stuff I want to see then it being in the background and otherwise games in a terrible way like most TV shows do in the west). For gaming as in playing a game not sure don't think much into those as most of the time games are better than the media portraying them anyway. Unless it literally has people familiar with what they are then overdramatic representation of gaming.
