I remember watching this movie as a kid on TV. The only thing I remembered from the movie was Tony Hawk being forced to ride a scooter. I didn't even remember that he was in a chicken suit. That scene would randomly pop into my head for years and years to this very day. It actually popped into my head recently.

Is unfortunate how Mainframe (aka. Rainmaker) fell from grace as they did make some pretty good shows back in the early days, like ReBoot and Beast Wars (although they were known to making stuff without storyboards to work from). Is also a lil unfortunate that this is the only Hawktober thing we got for this year, but it's understandable with you being busy with PAX and working hard on vid 200. Curious to what you might do for next year though.
@Brandon-g6m29 күн бұрын
The main reason why the quality went down hill after making classics like reboot and Beast wars and a few other quality shows is because the people who started the company and were the ones responsible for writing and producing those shows left in the early 2000s and the people who took over just didn't have the same care, I'd recommend watching the new 8 part reboot doc on KZbin that just came out for the 30th anniversary of the series, there's alot of insight by the creators and people who worked at mainframe when they were at their peek

To this day, I still find RebelTaxi freaking out every time a skateboarding montage happens absolutely hilarious. Judging by how this movie happened at the same time as THP8, they were absolutely flexing their newly acquired MoCap skills. It's literally the movie's 1 and only saving grace. So far, for better or for worse, this is the only animated movie that does skateboarding justice. And, as for live action goes, it definitely goes to Rob Dyrdek's Street Dreams. Because, besides true skateboarding, featured actual pros and the late Ryan Dunn. And, even though he never made back all the money spent doing it, he didn't mind. Because he did it for the love of the art.

I think what makes the skating animation look so off is that the characters look so cartoony, lanky and exaggerated, but since the animation seems to consist mainly of motion capture it's mismatched. You'd expect those exaggerated characters would breeze through, make huge jumps and spin around in cartoony fashion, but instead they make grounded and realistic skating moves, so it just feels slow and heavy. Reminds me a lot of Foodfight. ...Which goes to show what a great job the original games did balancing the exaggeration, doing 900s left and right but still mostly staying accurate to the technique of real tricks with the animations, as well as, of course, just showcasing awesome real-life skateboarding in the cutscenes/tapes.
@turboDrowsy29 күн бұрын
Thing is, Mainframe’s peak was probably when they worked on Beast Wars and had good writers to back their “arguably dated” CGI. There is at least their Hot Wheels series which I enjoyed growing up. But Mainframe either needs a fun idea that compliments their CG style, or they need good writers to help prop them up. This has neither qualities.

The Tony Hawk game franchise ending was a rare blessing from God. Let's not "get our hopes up" that it returns in any capacity. Let's instead hope it stays dead, and other franchises which should have been terminated years ago also have the life support pulled. Reviving it will result in having our hearts crushed yet again. The corporate suits have no regard for the feelings of ancient customers but the modern consumers should have more sense to encourage the mindless continuation of once-popular series.

Yeah... I really remember only seeing this once or twice on TV, when I was a kid... And not only am I disgusted by the sexual jokes... This is a terrible example of Mainframe and what they can do, I understand the majority of their work is hard to like... At all, especially when the majority of it is cheap Barbie CGI movies... That being said they do have what I consider to be one of the best things they've made, as well as one of the best Spider-Man shows too. "Spider-Man: The New Animated Series" If you still like Spider-Man, I'd recommend it greatly, especially since it was before Disney had ruined Marvel. Also, good video man, glad to see you still around Jak. :) God bless you!
@bobafett426529 күн бұрын
Man seeing our man cover this has been a long time coming, I've seen a bit of this on cable as a kid when it was new, Canadian TV was really pushing this and I remember seeing this and remembering screw all about it, now I can see why it's a forgettable mess that should've never come out, heck the cartoons made in Canada at the time were doing pretty well you had like Martin's Mysteries and Total Drama Island getting the odd bit of raving so if they did went for a 2D show by one of those animation teams and writers like was proposed it could've been a banger from the era. Instead we get whatever trash from what would eventually become Rainmaker which has produced nothing but trash due to Executives meddling at the highest levels like the amount of ridiculous changes they made to the Ratchet and Clank movie from Script to Screen is abysmal and honestly as a fan of Ratchet and Clank I would've preferred what was originally pitched and scripted by Ted Price and the Insomniac crew over whatever Rainmaker shat out in 2016.

How dare you call Mainframe a low budget shovelware company?! They're responsible for ReBoot, the worlds first full CGI television series. Using the same Silicone Graphics machines used to bring the N64 to life. It garnered itself a spot in the Smithsonian! I am legitimately mad at that statement.
@SquareEyedJak29 күн бұрын
Ok my fault for not knowing that stuff, but when a company has like a 100 Barbie and Hot Wheels direct to DVD shows and a bunch of cheap kids television, they generally will fall under that shovelware banner. Not saying it all is by any means, I've never heard of that show so I'd be interested to sus it someday.
@K-Anator29 күн бұрын
@@SquareEyedJak Honestly it's understandable, I was just being dramatic. They definitely fell off sometime after Beast Wars, but it is sad to see what was essentially my entire 90s childhood be called a "low budget shovelware company" when they pioneered a bunch of of computer animation techniques and made gems like Reboot. Definitely check out Reboot. Should be able to find the episodes here on YT, pretty sure the company that owns the license now has them uploaded. I still think the visuals are quite impressive, especially the later seasons. It's hard to believe it's 30 years old.
