Growing up I would always open my SNES and N64 boxes extremely carefully to take the games out and put the manuals back in when I was done, and my dad would keep them in a boxes in the basement for me. Some time growing up I signed off on him throwing them out. It pains me while trying to re-collect everything I already had, if only we could have known!

My greatest gamer shame was how, at one point, could have picked up LITTLE SAMSON for $3. It was in a bargain bin at one of my favorite stores, I picked it up, and because I had seen what I knew to be rare games, put it down in favor of what I bought. If I had internet as a kid, I could have at least been able to get some information on it.

I have a Playchoice 10(arcade) and I periodically look online for more of the game chips/carts that fit into this arcade NES. One day I was looking at eBay and there was a copy of Rokin Kats for $100. It was "untested" so I passed. This is a pretty rare and expensive game on the PC10. The same cart showed up on the Nintendo Facebook group a week later tested and working by the guy who brought it. I regret not trying to win the auction

Oh geez, losing out on a stadium event is a massive loss for sure! Listening to you talk about all the shames I realized early in our collecting days we went to a yard sale early and a guy had a ton of different stuff but nothing we were specifically interested in or didn't already have and instead of picking it up we tried to tell him what he had was worth more than what he had it priced at so he wouldn't get ripped off. But he said I don't care. I just want to get rid of these games and we left there without any of them. Now I would pick them up and I would use the mesh trade bait at our local pawn to get something we actually want. He had tons of pokémon games and some really high ticket GameCube games. I guess hindsight is 20/20 😂😂😂

I stupidly got rid of my teal Gameboy color and array of Pokémon games, all because my brothers were giving me a hard time about playing Pokémon as a 14 year old kid. To this day I regret that. I bought back the Pokémon games that I traded in, but I’ll never find my original games again. The other regret was I was talked into getting rid of my cases in favor of using DVD binder cases. Luckily I was able to buy the cases online, I’ll never make that mistake again.

There are two Sonic games I have buyer's remorse over from my early teen years. The first is one I feel bad for my dad about. Shadow the Hedgehog was was $100 dollars at launch. I remember him telling me it would probably go down to $50 dollars after Christmas, but I was so excited about Shadow having a spin-off game that I couldn't wait until after Christmas, so I got it as a present from him on Christmas Eve, then January came and just like he predicted, it went down to $50. I liked this game, but I didn't get into it as much as the Adventure games, so while I don't regret having it, I hate that my dad overpaid for it. The other is Sonic and the Secret Rings which I spent $50 dollars on the night Walmart started selling Wii consoles and I got mine. The motion controls were so hard for me to get used to that I couldn't even get past the tutorial. It already felt wonky trying to steer the Wii remote to control where Sonic goes, but swinging it to make him jump was the worst part because it made it hard controlling where he landed leading into countless bottomless pit deaths. Apparently a lot of people had the same problem because I've seen this game at conventions and local game stores being sold for $5 dollars making that $50 feel like a big loss. Outside Sonic, I regret not growing up with the Mario Bros. game franchise. I did get into the cartoons during my late childhood, but there were so many games in the franchise that I didn't know where to start, so I didn't start playing them until I was an adult. This seems hard to believe considering my big Luigi collection which I call my Luigium. This kind of ties into another thing that adds this this huge regret, because it took until 2017 for me to start getting into the Mario Bros. games, I missed out on Year of Luigi back in 2013. Because I've become such a huge Luigi fan, this hurts me knowing this event will never happen again (also, it got misblamed for causing one of Nintendo's worst financial years when it was really the Wii U's failure that caused this, as the year's tie-in games did sell well.) Yeah, we got a Month of Luigi in 2019 to celebrate Luigi's Mansion 3, but that wasn't as big. Another game series I regret not growing up with is Pokémon. I became obsessed with franchise when I was 7 following the Burger King promotion for Pokémon The First Movie because I was fascinated by all the different Pokémon designs and how the series was about going on adventures and collecting them, so Burger King became my first Pokémon adventure. I watched the anime regularly as well as the first movie which I had the VHS of, saw the second movie at the theater, and collected some of the trading cards (though I didn't have anyone to play the game with since I was homeschooled), but I didn't know the video games were the main part of the franchise until much later. Because I only focused on Sonic (and later, Kirby after getting into the anime) in terms of game franchises, I missed out on a lot. Ever since the pandemic, Pokémon games that came out prior to the Switch have skyrocketed in resale price. Even the 3DS games which aren't even that old started going for over a hundred dollars. Because of this, I don't think I will ever be able to collect all the mainline Pokémon games.

My most intense feeling of regret came when i had an opportunity to purchase an extremely rare (and not very desirable) sealed mint condition game boy color game. This game was a grail for me cause its just a super unique and very "me" type of game. I decided to buy it, and while checking out, at the last second, i hesitated and went to check prices online again on pricecharting. Of course there was little history but it reassured me I should buy it. When i went back to the page, literally 20-30 seconds later, someone else had bought it. I know of 3 copies that exist in similar condition in the world, and on pricecharting only a few copies have ever even sold new. I cant tell you how much I felt robbed and burned internally in shame for weeks, cause all I had to do was click the button but that 20-30 second hesitation cost me the game. It's not like it was newly listed either, it had been up for a long time. Lol i laugh about it now, but for months i would randomly think back on it and feel that remorse and upset. I managed to find a fairly great condition cib recently, so I feel better about it, but still.
