12:20 My personal favorite part about FNV's Hardcore mode, is that it is a mode, not a difficulty. You can do a playthrough on the easier difficulties while still enjoying survival game elements. Survival modes don't have to mean "everything is a bullet sponge".
@ledumpsterfire64742 жыл бұрын
I've always felt survival modes should be the opposite of what they often are. If you're going to attach them to a particular upper difficulty, at least make everybody the fragile fleshbags they're supposed to be. S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Anomaly handles this really well imo. Pop someone in the head, they're done. His buddy pops you in the leg with a single bullet, you're going to have to figure out where he's shooting from all while moving like a snail, get him before he gets you again, and then use some vodka and bandages, maybe even have to find some antibiotics if it gets infected. Way more immersive than survival just being food + enemies with 6 inches of kevlar embedded under all their skin.
@jeb7912 жыл бұрын
Bethesda added hardcore mode in fallout 4 and ruined it they put it in the hardest difficulty which translates to more enemies and bullet sponges. They removed fast travel to waste time. @@andycraig6905 yeah pretty much. I'll go a bit more in depth because both F3 and NV shooting mechanics are different and have their own benefits and I hate it when one is cast to the side without any thought: With ironsight aiming in NV, there IS weapon sway, but wherever the ironsight is, the bullet will go. So that means accuracy does not actually have an effect in NV, it depends on how well you can control your mouse in relation to the target on screen which will always depend on your skill as a player. With F3, there is weapon sway and an accuracy penalty that worsens or betters depending on you character's stats. With no ironsights means no indication of where the bullet will go so no matter how skilled you are as a player, bullets will miss if your character can't shoot (exception to the rule is snipers). So to heighten your accuracy you have to close the gap, like you would in previous Fallouts. It's basically real-time VATS. So yeah, both have their perks. I won't knock NV because tbh it's more fun/actiony. But I prefer the character skill because to me it's more enjoyable seeing my character progress.
@Chris-oo6tn2 жыл бұрын
@@G-DORA that's an interesting way to look at it I've never thought of that but also in NV your character skill and your strength determine how steady your weapon will be in order to shoot through the iron sights,so it's not only dependent on the player's skill Also no iron sights doesn't mean there is no indication the bullet will go,you aim with these Little spots in the middle of the screen,the bullet might won't go straight in the middle as you said the skill determines the accuracy but it's not 100% skill based

I do credit Fallout 4 with making the Brotherhood of Steel a more balanced mix of the goody-goody ones from Fallout 3 and the original incarnation of the Brotherhood of Steel. Bethesda and Borderlands both have that. Encouraging exploring their worlds by hiding things in every nook and cranny. I wish more open world games had the level of detail Bethesda puts into their games. Everything in the game is handcrafted, there are skeletons arranged in certain positions, it just makes me enjoy playing it so much more. They seem to remake everything these days so why is no one attempting to remake this? It's literally one of the most beloved RPG games ever made, it would literally print money for whoever remakes it. All they have to do is revamp the graphics and sound, eliminate the bugs and glitches and keep everything else the same, it's a no brainer. Oh and make it available for ALL consoles, not just the X-box. I had so much fun with this game, I spent hours an hours just hunting down Sarsperella bottle tops to use in the factory machine, a simple little mundane task that gave me hours of fun lol I never got to complete all the DLC's because they were riddled with bugs and when i installed them after completing the main game, they slowed the game down so much that it became almost unplayable, it would be nice to finally get to play these.

New Vegas is one of my top ten games. I played it for hours, and I'd never played a Fallout game before, so my very first instinct was to go straight to New Vegas off across the barren wasteland. I was torn apart in minutes. It was hilarious. I played New Vegas to death, and like many others, we still haven't uncovered everything in the game. The better I got at the game, the more fun I had. There was still so much to explore. One of my favourite memories was when I was at NCR camp, trying to talk to an NPC and I accidentally stole a spoon. and I thought, hopefully no one saw that, I'm just going to leave quietly. Cue fifty NCR soldiers chasing me down across the wasteland, at first threatening me, and then just a conga line of NPC dialogue, and then my game crashed. There was something about the bugginess of Fallout that never got to me, everything always ended up hilarious. Also, the amount of times you could accidentally cheese a complicated quest was a huge bonus. I loved the characters, the environment, the weapons, the sheer amount of dialogue, it's absolutely mad. Also, the only reason why I bought the game was because I saw the sniper with NCR regalia on the cover. I thought this game has to be awesome. One of the few times I judged a book by it's cover, and it absolutely paid off.

Also another thing I noticed is how the most fun (imho) way to play the game is right there on the cover or in your face - gambling (rush to vegas at the start with some luck, using the 1 or 2 stealthboys you get at the start, gamble away and get the implants), revolvers (lucky is the best overall gun in the game imo and just fun to use with all the crits, while sequoia is for when you need heavy fire power), and light armor (gecko backed hardened leather armor with the light touch perk works great), while before I was messing with power armor and energy weapons, avoided gambling completely, and didn't try hardcore mode, and it just wasn't a very fun way to play the game lol

It shouldn't cost game devs so much more to invest in high quality scriptwriters rather than the college-grade uninspired dross that passes for most game dialogue. FNV's characters have depth and clear individuality, without being too contrived, trite or overly quirky. There are people who know what they're doing, and there are a bunch of weak chancers who probably got the job because daddy pulled some strings. The second type need weeding out and game companies need more creative discretion, like Obsidian's work on FNV proves.

5:55 "... New Vegas... and that's where the real story begins." I don't know how many times I got to Novac, got that first home, and spent untold hours sticking around the area, adventuring out and about in the wasteland COMPLETELY having forgotten about the chip and tracking down the guy who shot me in the head. As if my custom, generally after playing for a lengthy period I either dropping the game for a while then returning to it and deciding to start a new character, or while playing I find myself wanting to take all that I had learned in my latest play-through and start a new playthrough to see how I fair. I honestly don't know how many playthroughs I had to go through before I FINALLY got to New Vegas, and I'm pretty sure back when I played on my XBOX 360 I found the location of New Vegas itself confusing and complicated. If anything, discovering the Gun Runners was easily the most useful part of discovering New Vegas. I guess back then I just wanted to go around discovering different places and characters while engaging in combat when attacked and basically have some mindless fun. Wasn't until my 20s, years after the release (possibly even around a decade after release) that I sat myself down and decided, okay, I'm gonna play this game properly with story in mind and I'm not gonna waste my time with too many side-missions even though I fucking LOOOOVE side-missions! In the end, I think I went with an NCR ending first because I like how they're fairly orderly even though they're spread thin. Second time around, I took the Yes Man ending in which I'm in charge. Honestly, if House wasn't such a condescending prick, I'd probably have been his loyal minion and did what I could to help him because he CLEARLY has done a lot of good for the Strip. I mean, if not for him, it woulda been nuked. He PERSONALLY over 200 years ago had the funds and technology to help prevent a nuke from landing on the Strip! Then, over 200 years later, it's actually a functioning location giving various people a livelihood, entertainment, etc. Granted there seems to be a bit of cannibalism at play which is very unfortunate, but hey, it's the post-apocalypse. You expect proper fine-dining when all cows have two heads? I was dumb back in the day, didn't appreciate good story. As I got older (and developed a part-time self-employed job as a writer which a few months ago I managed to make my full-time job), became more mindful and thoughtful, I was able to actually focus on the main plot. But I'd be lying if I said I didn't enjoy my mindless fun. Finding/customizing firearms, collecting firearms/ammunition as well as ammo components for crafting, learning the different ammo types, encountering new random locations/NPCs/events, OH and stories that you need to deduce based on terminals/evidence that you can find around the area? I love it, absolutely love it, and all that I had learned helped me big-time when I FINALLY started to appreciate storytelling/roleplaying and so went about learning all I could about the different factions and the decisions I had to make, etc. But yeah, it's funny to me that it IS true that the story doesn't truly begin until you get to the Lucky 38, yet I spent so many beloved hours playing JUST for fun, completely ignoring the main quest, just exploring the world and seeking better weapons and armour and what not. Even though to this day I may very well have still not yet gotten power armor training in New Vegas, may have never once dawned an actual proper suit of power armor lol The armor from the DLC Dead Money, the security armor, is probably the best I was able to ever find. God that was difficult DLC to get through... but I digress. Yeah. In all my time playing New Vegas on the 360, I might not have once actually gone and visited all of the different casinos and what not. I really don't think I had interest in delving that deeply into the story, I just wanted to go out and find stuff and shoot shit! But damn... Vault 22. THAT is something I discovered on the 360 as I recall, and I found it HORRIFYING! Most memorable vault to date, easily. I mean I love Vault 88 in FO4 that you can build yourself, SUPER cool, but Vault 22... those spore creatures... and that was back when I was still deeply obsessed with zombie stuff. I mean I can still appreciate zombie stuff, don't get me wrong, love the genre even though I haven't touched Walking Dead in YEARS, but yeah, I was TERRIFIED that if they got me infected, or if even the air itself got me infected, then I might turn into one of those horrific creatures. Good times... bloody good times...

Okay I need to make a few things clear here about this game. It is an absolutely great game and I play it all the time and it deserves all the praise it gets for its quest design, writing, and improvements on the combat and leveling system. But people keep praising how amazing it was that it only had like 18 months in development while Fallout 3 had 4 years and yet has so much more to it. Well, that was because Fallout 3 did over half of the heavy lifting. The game engine, UI, the VATS system, half the game assets, half the weapons, most of the monster AI's, all of it was already made for them. They didn't change the combat system, they just tweaked it towards their designs (admittedly to VERY good effect). On TOP of all of that, there were a lot of ideas that came from the scrapped Fallout 3: Van Buren project that were rehashed into the new system, including Caesar's Legion and the Hoover Dam. I'm not trying to knock Obsidian's work, it ended up an excellent game with amazing DLC, but you have to realize that they were able to focus on so much content because that was basically all they had to make. In effect, Fallout New Vegas was 95% Fallout 3 DLC. But that also meant working with a game engine they weren't familiar with and likely didn't have the ability to fully crack. As such they were sort of hamstrung in their ability to fix it to their own ends and I can guarantee that the whole game is a spaghetti code nightmare on top of what is probably a spaghetti code nightmare (That being Bethesda's infamously buggy code). People think it was unfairly criticized when they play it today and it seems buggy but worth it, but you have to realize that is after TONS and TONS of patches. The game at release had basically a 1 in 6 chance of a complete progression block bug that caused the game to crash when you entered the Strip, and could only be circumvented by wearing an "Old Cowboy Hat" when you entered the Strip. I am not making that up. I hate to say it, but those bugs detracted from the experience enough to justify that rating. That said I think that Bethesda should have shouldered more of the blame since it was their messy code they were working with. I would give Fallout New Vegas NOW a 9 out of 10, because it still has a LOAD of jank. But back then, a 7 or 8.

I remember back in the day people HATED Fallout NV, expecially the factions and bugs, but it definitely aged the best

When I was getting hardcore into gaming again I bought fallout NV from a local game store and my coworker told me “NV sucks, fallout 3 is the game you should have got instead” I didn’t know much about rpgs so I trusted him on that. I thought NV was a “bad” game as late as 2016 just because ppl said it was. Now it’s one of my favorite games of all time

i like how everyone, including myself, came around to loving fallout new vegas but it costed fallout 3s popularity... f3 was THE fallout game almost everyone played for the first time, and its popularity only grew with fallout 4 OFFICIAL announcement (meanwhile nv was still somewhat ignored or hated around that time). people LOVED f3 because, while it was a simpler rpg to hardcore fans, it was a breath of fresh air for a lot of casuals and new fallout fans at the time, and we wanted bethesda to go bigger with the player choice/rpg elements for fallout 4, but instead we got a much more dumbed down game with a linear story/choices and crafting/building... This left a bad taste for f3 fans and most turned to a previous fallout game that most of us never gave a chance, fallout new vegas, and by that time the game was a bit more stable and it offered what we pretty much wanted from fallout 4 and eventually it led to a lot of us realizing that bethesda cant make a fallout game and discovering that obsidian can only make true fallout games (especially after finding out obsidian had a significant relation with fallout) and fallout 3 became hated and obsolete. yes it didnt age well in some parts but it had many things going for it as well, like its map and atmosphere etc, its just sad seeing a beloved game get neglected now after a sequel, even today

The switch to PC would be worth it even without the mods. Putting the game on a SSD or NVMe basically eliminates load times.

I wouldn’t call New Vegas underrated, maybe undercooked. I don’t mean this in a negative way as this is definitely my most loved game of the series besides Fallout 4. Many fans of this series always put this as their number 1 and those who are new to the series know if this game, whether from word of mouth or the memes. It is clear however, that the game needed more time in the oven to further flesh out it’s story. It was evident when the DLC came out that these developers could do God’s work with a little more time. It was clear that the major sufferer of this short development cycle was the Legion as much of their story was significantly cut in comparison to what a player receives when doing an NCR run. Hell, besides a Yes Man run I’d say most speed-runners would choose a Legion run just based on the lack of content alone. So overall, it’s not underrated, just slightly undercooked. However, that’s okay because this game is one of my all time favorites!

@@ciciciaphascain4143 There's a ton of cut content that has been cancelled because of time constraints. Obsidian had to add some ideas into DLC later when they had more time. The game by itself is amazing, but if they had 6 months more for more content, it would be godlike, on the level of Ocarina of Time. The bugs got ironed out in later patches mostly.

Caesars Legion actually doesnt mispronounce his name. I took 2 years of latin in high school and brought this to my teacher. "Ave, true to Caesar." The v is pronounced like our w and ae make an i sound. And their c's arent soft, its a hard c. I find it weird, moreso, that they mixed latin with english instead of just speaking latin but I guess its so players understand them

Recently had the chance of playing New Vegas again. I played it once when I was younger not knowing I discovered a gem. The game is just good. If you want an even more in-depth look at this game, watch the Act Man review it. The number of endings, is just wow to me. How could a game in 2010 have so many endings, so many crucial details and choices could have been made.

It had some very bad bugs and issues like crashing a lot on 1 specific console and even pc However it was not the dev fault as there was a variety of issues 1 they were using well the same engine as fallout 3 2 they had to and were forced to make the game excluding the dlc in 16 months which resulted in issues Then they churned out all those dlc in 1y 3 this then resulted in obsidian going bankrupt almost as Bethesda didn't give them there bonuses and fined them because it didn't reach the target reviews score average They were able to survive from a Kickstart game leading to them staying still now and not closing

Hmmm, well you can actually do it yourself, it's not hard tbh. Visually, my NV looks better, than FO4 vanilla and nearly zero bugs. Also shooting is better as well. If you're new to modding then take a 30-60 min, watch MO2 tutorial videos and then when you know what you're doing, you can actually make NV to your taste. :) Atm my FO4 most likely has more sh*t to do, has more immersion and realism plus feels tons more lively and has better graphics than anything bugthesda/MS will come up with. Modding is everything, trust me you get a taste of that and then you'll be a conditioned lab rat like me, who has over 3K hours in FO4 and around 500h modding it lol. Atm running wee bit over 750 mods and game's stable. Plus it's still fallout4, no anime chicks with mommy milkers running around etc. =D

I played like 2000 hours of the game when I was younger. I’m kinda killing time till I go back to it. I’m really just kinda hoping it gets a remaster or even better. A “reimagining” that bring in some cut quests/ features, maybe new one all together. The game is the reason I get bored of so many RPG’s and is kinda where I set the bar for story content as a whole.

New vegas is still my favorite. Even by fallout 4 standars. The story was unique unlike all the rest games, I love how well the factions were written, Your choices had more impact, the companions were amazing, and the NPCs were surprisingly involved. I just love how complex the factions were and how impactful every decision is. Not to mention how good the game play is. It was surprising a smooth game in my eyes. Fallout new vegas just had something about it that the other games lack.

I've always loved Fallout New Vegas and Fallout 3, they're two of my favorite games and I could probably write a thesis about what they both do right and wrong and why they're both two of the greatest games ever made. But since this is a youtube comment, I'll just say this: I've tried to play Fallout 4 from the start on 3 different occasions, and I've never come close to finishing it or wanting to finish it. I've never even bothered playing Fallout 76. I've played Fallout New Vegas and Fallout 3 collectively 10+ times, easily. Clearly that's at least somewhat telling as to the quality of those games comparatively.

fun fact, classical Rome was the basis for our democracy elected officials who represented a sector of the Roman Republic, it was imperial Rome that fallout NV's legion modeled themselves after. so in a very weird round about way both the NCR and Legion are based off Roman culture.
