I'm 51 years old and I've been playing video games basically all my life. and I thought I was pretty good at most of games, but...... I started playing Rocket League with my son about 3 years ago, who was 10 years old back then. It was a way to spend some time with my son and have fun, that sort of thing. But then he started getting competitive, invited his friends to play with him, studied all the moves and tricks on KZbin. Well, fast forward to present, while I'm stuck at the Gold level, he's at the Diamond level, which is two levels above, and he beats me all the time on 1 vs 1. The gamer in me feels the need to crush this little guy, but as father, I guess I'm sort of proud? I don't know, it's complicated. LOL.

Getting better thru repetition is lost on people. No matter what you do you're not gonna get better at it without putting in some time and effort. If you play ball you have to practice. If you play guitar you have to practice. If you're conducting experiments you test different variables and run it over and over. Yet some gamers play games and get mad that they actually have to put forth some effort or mental energy. Then get mad at the game and/or people that can instead of getting mad at themselves.

It also depends on how good the game is. FromSoft are known for making hard but fair games, for example. As soon as you die, you know why almost immediately and can begin course correcting. And if you keep dying it's because you keep messing up, not because the game is shit. But if the hit boxes and animations are all over the place, then it becomes uninteresting quite quickly. Why even bother to navigate a mess? Ofc, a truly decent mindset will get you through any game.

Also, ino the common consensus is that Sekiro is hard af but to me, it’s not all that. Once you learn: a) what debuffs each enemy is resistant too / b) the rhythm of the ensuing battle, its pretty much just execution at that point (mind you, I played with the demon ball off and on during my one and only playthrough). I heard a great assessment from another YT short depicting ER gameplay where the streamer suggested that there are certain bosses that give different players trouble. I think this ideal sufficiently applies to Sekiro as well. I remember fucking up Genichiro in 2-3 tries (demon ball off) with the mikiri and lighting strike counter thinking, “that’s all my mans’ had?”. But I began questioning my own skill level when I faced the monk in both fighting locations (Demon Bell off and on. Even Owl gave me less trouble! However, both times Demon Bell was off). I will close with this: I think it can be mutually agreed upon that Sword Saint Isshin and Demon of Hatred can each go to Hell (I threw away the Demon Bell at that point)

The idea of a video game being too hard to play is ridiculous. All games can and should have customisable difficulty levels. All games should be inclusive for every skill and ability level (e.g. accessible for people with disabilities). Shout out to Sekiro! As someone who has been a Souls Fan since the beginning. Sekiro was the community exposer. So many people who “spam talked” about Souls, how good they are at them, and/or many other things like talking about difficulty options, mechanics, etc got ABSOLUTELY EXPOSED by Sekiro. So many people were ranking it low because they couldn’t create a Tank build that kills enemies in less than 10 hits while chugging Estus. Or these people straight up admitted they didn’t beat it. Some of the creators that come to mind are… Jim Starling, biggest loser calling the game bad and insulting the “Git Gud” crowd because he couldn’t farm an OP build. The GIGAchad Ymfah rushing a “level 1 guide”, in which he said “can’t parry all his attacks with such low posture” leading to constant discussion about casuals being confused with the game when any good player learned quickly that posture and it breaking only happens when you block instead of Parry. And finally I remember the Souls Boss ranking guy giving the worse commentary about Sekiro.
@jt114255 ай бұрын
Agreed. Generally in video games, you have A) the player improves or B) the character improves. Sekiro can be very divisive because it's mostly column A as opposed to the other souls which is a hybrid of A and B. The samurai dueling and parrying feels so rewarding once it really clicks, which can take hours. Idk when I’ll get into a tough game like that again. Took a lot of my time and I get obsessed when I start getting good. My usual schtick is 3rd person shooters, open world and linear. I find the most relaxing games to be GTA with cheats going and the auto save turned off or replaying a 3rd person story driven shooter on an easier difficulty. That’s how I usually play. GunZ: The Duel is one of the most mechanically grueling games you could play. It will never have the following of these games, but if you're looking for a challenge, you should check it out.

I have only played Ghostrunner among these. It was hard yes, but it was also fun to play man. And the soundtrack just takes it to another level.

I usually suck at difficult games. Given up on souls games so many times without ever getting past starting areas. But somehow ended up extremely enjoying and fully completing Ghostrunner and Sekiro. The god like satisfaction these two games give after completing something you found specially challenging makes the grind worthwhile.
