Final Fantasy 7 Remake is a Remake. That's why it's not, Final Fantasy 7 Definitive Edition. Obviously you just rush this Compilation, just to make a new content. If Remake not allowed to change a little bit to totally change the ending to probably make a Multiverse. Then Final Fantasy 7 Remake should just be Named Final Fantasy 7 Definitive Edition just like the Mafia Definitive Edition done.

Plot twists huh? If there were any major one's in the games I played then I don't remember. In general I like stuff that borders in many endings. Like "Dishonored 1" for example. Or recently - in Eldenring, the unoreverse on the Frenzied Flame ending with Miquella's needle. A pity FromSoft had not put more Melina interactions in the game or a surprise ending with her being very surprised you managed to tame the Frenzied Flame instead of becoming its puppet. Stuff like that. You can do it currently but there is no flavour reward, wether in form of cutscenes, more dialogues or anything.

The bad thing is, I don't think the twist was THAT unexpected so I don't really think it should have been on this list. Having played FE Fates, I expected something like that to go down. The writing of the game also kind of points out that the houses, themselves, have differing ideals and dialogue you get through the game hints toward the twist very heavily.

Man, Xenogears. That was one of the coolest stories in any game ever - I loved how the game just increased in scope as it went along, it wasn't just some wild goose chase like FF7, where you spent the entire game simply chasing the antagonist down. And that final twist in the end was just amazing - but god was it ever disappointing that it didn't have a solid ending.

Honorable mention to 'Final Fantasy 6' (Originally 'Final Fantasy 3' in the U.S.). Playing through the world in the first half, gathering allies/espers to fight the empire and stop them from gaining a source of ultimate power. Then, after a huge 'incident', the game leaps ahead one year for the second half. Now you have to find your old allies again, this time to fight Kefka. However, the world is completely different as a result of Kefka's actions at the end of the first half.

I think this is why i liked Dragon Quest 11 so much ACT 1: Very JRPG , just gather friends , power and mcguffings to save the world blah blah blah ACT 2: Shit hits the fan and the world has gone to shit and you have to regather everyone one year after the you fail and things have gone really dark ACT 3: Entirely optional , "The Game" has effectibly reach a good conclusion at this point and the game tells you so , but there is still a big chunk to play , you can basically give everyone their happy ending but at a great cost to you which you have to live with

The final act of Dragon's Dogma and it's extension, Dark Arisen. That will always have a spot in my heart for it's absolutely MASSIVE plot twist and the fun factor of the game in general. Edit: Nier Gestalt, the extra endings. Gah, my favorites.

Was about to comment on Dragons Dogma. In most games, if something bad happens to the world at the end, the game just reverts it to how it was before, after you complete the last mission. I love how the MGS2 plot is so confusing people STILL don't get it when compiling these lists The S3 program was NOT about moulding people to become a new Solid Snake, that's just what The Patriots told Ocelot, it was more wide spread and a test to see if they can manipulate world events and individuals as a whole.

It's amazing how a game released 21 years ago with its farfetched themes can now be seen as prescient of current events and trends. I am not sure, Three Houses belongs here ... dont gent me wrong I love the game, I am currently replaying it to prepare for when Three Hopes comes out later this month, the reason I dont think the game belongs on the list is that is not a twist its literally the premise of the game, which featured prominently in Marketing ... its part of the trailer ... Doesn't REALLY belong because it's just a DLC, doesn't belong because it only affects the end... In the main game you're doing boss fights to prepare to face the devil. In the DLC they nicely changed this around, you're introduced to this Chef who is trying to help your friend Miss Chalice, so you're doing boss fights to collect ingredients for the thing he's going to bake to help Chalice. When you gather them all, he's not in his bakery, you find him below, and it turns out this pastry is to help HIM, which includes imprisoning Chalice so he can use her soul as an ingredient, and BAM!, this major ally becomes the final boss fight.

Bloodborne is the most Lovecraftian horror game we had and it's not even trying to be a horror game in general.

Dragon's Dogma and finding out about the Dukes bargain with Grigori, and that he was... grooming(?) another wife/sacrifice to make the bargain again. You think you're riding into the capital for your heroes reward only to end up running for your life from endless waves of ducal guards. This one stuck with me, it betrayed the RPG trope of always trusting the main quest giver and you instead find out they've been trying the entire time to get you killed with dangerous yet pointless quests. Edit: oh yeah it goes way, way off the rails in the endgame. If you though the secret undead Ur dragon was the final boss... no, no it wasn't.

I understand Bloodborne, because that twist surprised me. But one that got me was when I played Silent Hill 2 and that James killed Mary, that one surprised me.

It's not the best twist but one I'd like to mention is from the game Inversion. Your character is fighting to save his daughter along with his best friend through the entire game and you start by going to your appartment to look and your friend searches around with you but neither of you find her. Well at the very end your character sacrifices himself to save everyone and then your friend starts an inner monologue about how he wanted to tell you something. Then it plays a memory of when you searched the apartment and it turns out he found your daughter dead in her room and decided not to tell you because he wanted you to fight back against the invaders and thought you wouldnt fight without a reason too. I was angry at that game after that but I enjoyed playing it.
