Can I just say how much I appreciate how consistently good gameranx is. I’ve been watching the videos fairly religiously for the last few years now and there is never any BS with them. Obviously some videos seem a little superfluous but rarely and at the end of the day they are a business but one I respect for not getting into politics or trying to “educate” their viewers on their personal opinions. It’s a great show guys, just wanted to say thank you and keep up the good work 😊

I'm an early adopter of Star Citizen. I have "DONATED" more than I'm happy to admit. That said, it's made leaps and bounds in recent years and the tech being developed leads to easier creation of future content. In other words, they're not just making a full life-sized fully explorable planet, but the tools necessary to quickly and easily make hundreds of full life-sized fully explorable planets. When I started we were excited to have a space station and ships to fly around in space - now there are a dozen fully rendered planets and moons with cities and orbiting stations along with missions and unbelievable features never before seen in MMOs. Soooo... it's got that going for it.
@darthslayer98
@darthslayer98 2 жыл бұрын
This is something a lot of people don’t realize when looking at the exorbitant funding numbers. Rockstar already had all of their tools ready to go. They already had an engine. They spent all that time and money on just the story and the things that go in the game. CIG is first making all those tools, including a fair amount that nobody has ever made before, and then making all the things that go in the game. If you want to compare development times and budgets with something like RDR2 you have to take into account the time and money spent in the past on building their development tools and engine.
@Johnny_Cash_Flow

@@darthslayer98 Excellent point. I still am critical of some of the decisions CIG has made in spending said donations (the famous door controversy), but when it comes to actual development of the final product, I'm continually impressed, and slightly disappointed, every time I step back into the Verse.

I am starting to get a Duke Nukem Forever vibe with SC. If you take too long, someone is going to decide to "upgrade" it to stay current, which will knock it back a few more years while they try to get just the right look and work out the new bugs that will pop up with moving to a more CPU intensive game. Then another someone will say we have been working too long on this game and need to dump whatever works out to the gamingverse.

Most of the BS with GPU prices in the last 5-7 years is all thanks to the fu@$ing bitcoin miners buying up every bloody GPU on the planet as soon as they're available. That's what kicked off the big price jumps in the first place. The GPU market went from predictable and orderly to chip shortages and supply chain issues. Then throw COVID on that and here we are.

Using new, modern hardware, you've never been able to build a pc for the same price as the current generation of consoles and match their performance. Falcon nailed it. PC components have different standards they have to meet for different use cases, and each component has its own manufacturing and distribution costs. Consoles are built by one company, and often sold at a loss to promote the sale of software

The peregrine falcon, also known as the peregrine, and historically as the duck hawk (LOL c'mon America) in North America, is a cosmopolitan bird of prey in the family Falconidae. A large, crow-sized falcon, it has a blue-grey back, barred white underparts, and a black head. Speed: 390 km/h (Maximum, Diving) Wingspan: 74 - 120 cm (Adult) Clutch size: 3 - 4 Conservation status: Least Concern (Population stable) Mass: 0.7 - 1.5 kg (Female, Adult), 0.33 - 1 kg (Male, Adult) Scientific name: Falco peregrinus Length: 34 - 58 cm (Adult) The peregrine falcon is a symbol of aspiration, ambition, power, speed, and freedom. They offer protection to you as a spirit animal, especially during transitional periods. Those who have peregrine falcons as their spirit animal are attentive, perceptive, and have a strong sense of purpose. Now you know why 😁

Where #1 is concerned, it's also really important to point out that consoles are sold at a loss, or to put another way the price YOU pay for a console is less than the COST to the manufacturer. Most PC related hardware is going to be running anywhere from 20-40% profit margin. If Playstation and Xbox did this, new consoles would easily be 700+ USD$ from day 1.

That last story was pretty obviously talking about the stupid direction GPU prices have gone (and continue to go looking at the 40 series), and not the inherent differences between console and PC which are well understood. I see where you are coming from in #1. A pc has a lot of uses that a console just doesn’t have. But if you you just want an amazing gaming experience a console is the way to go in terms of cost. PC’s for me were something that was the ultimate gaming experience if you shell out the cash, you have fast load times and great graphics which ultimately you can get from this current gen of consoles. The ultimate perk that pc’s have now is modding games, the new nvidia 40 series, letting crazy raytracing with the added frames. But if dev figure out how to at the very least crank games frame rate to a constant 60fps with 4K and Ray tracing, then consoles would be a better grab if you just want to play games and only games because of that 500 dollar price tag.

I'm a hard-core PC guy. That being said I absolutely don't hate on console players. Having a limited budget to spend on entertainment I decided long ago to invest heavily in a single platform so that I can have the best possible experience that platform has to offer; as opposed to spreading my money across several platforms only to have somewhere between a "mediocre" to "good" experience. The main disadvantage or disappointments I've encountered as a PC Gamer are: 1) "Exclusive" content. I missed out on some experiences like RDR 1 and other awesome-looking games that were never released on PC. 2) Lan parties are WAY more complicated / difficult with PCs as they are unwieldy and bulky to move around; whereas consoles are pretty much designed to be compact and easily transported. 3) Many games today are designed for console first then ported over to PC, often making the UI and controls awkward and klunky. Also by designing for console first, the graphic experience is sometimes not nearly as good as it could be on PC. Kudos to companies like RockStar though for taking extra time when porting to PC - RDR2 and GTAV are prime examples of porting done right.

For the GPU controversy, the controversy isn't weird: It's a shady business thing. All the GPU starting prices went way up for these new ones, so they packaged the 4070 as a 4080 "12GB" to make it sound better and, therefore, the price would go over better. The 70 cards have always been the budget option. Both the 2070 and the 3070 launched with an MSRP of $500, and the 1070 was $450. Due to advances in tech and manufacturing, companies have been able to launch more advanced cards for the same price. But now this rebranded 4070 is launching for NINE HUNDRED DOLLARS. That's a crazy increase. I think half of it is legit supply chain issues from the pandemic and crypto mining and all that, but the other half is Nvidia being greedy and coming off of the higher prices of this last gen of GPUs. $900 sounds pretty reasonable compared to the prices some people were paying to scalpers and all. But it's still an incredible shift in the pricing of cards, and it's worth commenting on, especially when Nvidia didn't just come out and say "Yes, the prices are higher this gen; that's just the way it has to be due to costs," but instead is trying to pull this shady BS that they've never done before, having separate 12 GB and 16GB cards for the same number. It's 100% them trying to get something over on consumers through marketing.

Falcon, I see what you are saying regarding the multipurpose nature of the pc gaming rig over the console, however all the other work you do on a computer requires the barest of components. So if a PS5 XBOXSX can do it for $500, then a PC should be able to run games at the same performance level at that price and then let’s add another $100 to run Office and the Internet. I get your car analogy, but it’s more akin to having a motorcycle versus a motorcycle with a sidecar. With PC building you’re paying for the variety of choices of parts and mods, but that comes at the cost of competition, thus demand for specific parts, thus prices go up.

Just to clarify, the main reason console players don't want to play with PC players on games, especially FPS, is because they play with superior hardware. Mouse and key = OP and a quite unfair advantage.

Another thing to add, People might not know about it but the Most Expensive Game in Development is Actually Genshin Impact. The games initial Development budget was around 100million with 200 million+ Development cost each year for new content. Genshin Impact is now having it's 2nd anniversary. So that means The game is already in the 500million+ development Cost mark. And only 4 of the 7 Nations are playable in game. This game need about 5+ to fully complete. So about 1.5Billion+ in total Development cost estimation.

The last one is goofy. They’re incredibly well priced. Companies often take very little profit on the consoles. They sell them so they can sell games. If you’re going to compare console cost/worth to PC you have to compare them to prebuilt PCs.

The entried at number 8 and number 1 seem to be connected. There's no way one of those components is worth $899 nevermind $1200. That's almost 3 times the price of the whole console for the 1 component.

About star citizen: you can't compare RDR 2 and Star Citizen with its development time and budget, because star citizen was made from scratch. The team itself included. With RDR 2 they had a whole lot to start with, a team especially. Star Citizen is still a lot of work, but in the last few month and in the next few month there will be a lot of ground breaking features and techniques, which will move the game to a point of just polishing pretty fast. There is nothing comparable to this game with this amount of detail at the moment

One cannot compare consoles to PC, I am with you on that. I do play games but the PC is my setup, my baby, and my working station primarily. Editing and making videos, mixing and making music together with a mixer connected to a PC (Traktor), writing, drawing, downloading and so much more. I never had a console in my life and there is a high chance that I will never have. Why would I if I can play any game from any console on my rig if I want to (emulators)? Consoles are for playing games. PC is freedom and it comes with a cost.

About the console vs PC thing. I think what Mr Harada meant is the amount of money you have to put in to get the same performance vs. the PS5. There is a great analysis by NXGamer of the difference and problems in Spiderman Remastered between PC and PS5. And that's an excellent port. Some of the techniques the PS5 uses are very hard to equal on the PC. I concur with the argument that the money spend on a PC is well spend money because I can use it for other things, but strictly for gaming its quite a bit of money to spend.

Ltt in recent months has done a great job putting together budget PC's with second-hand parts that can outperform the current console generation for less money. That said, consoles will always have that edge because with static hardware profiles comes the ability for developers to *optimize* their software. I think what's more amazing is this unspoken expectation we have, as gamers, that all big games that aren't from Nintendo come out for PC, Xbox, and PS on launch. Building a game and then optimizing for three very different eco-systems is a big ask, which makes it that much more reasonable that the PC version maybe doesn't get *as* optimized as the console releases.

@@Krajenda Because as time is going on, the updates are coming quicker and the things that have been in production long term are coming to completion. They are fairly transparent about these things(now atleast). That's why they have made so much money this past year. Every time they finish and implement major mechanics it brings in fresh players who can easily see what they are going for. This isn't some no name dev that is just gonna cut and run. So many people don't understand how this game is being developed. To put it into perspective, if Cyberpunk2077 is a beautiful sky-scrapper that CDPR have made, Star Citizen is an entire city that Cloud Emperium is creating from the ground up, starting with creating the ground. That is why it's taking so darn long. CI isn't using already created technology and engines like most other devs. They literally had to create their own road to travel down. Having said all that, I could be wrong. But I believe it will eventually finish. May not be "BEST GAME EVER! but it'll definitely be best space game ever.

Harada’s comment is specifically based on the cost to performance of video games on consoles when asked specifically about the production of Tekken on the PS5 and Xbox. Tekken not being a particular demanding style of game… Him being Japanese and having the excuse of lost in translation doesn’t carryover to you when you get defensive and change the context of what he’s saying and start rambling about minivans and other task… Since he specifically said ‘cost to performance’ with ‘video games’ twice in the screen grab in this video you should build a computer for 499-549 that has equal performance to prove him wrong.
