Excellent point. Like you, I know the intricate details of the original's map, but I couldn't tell you anything about the world map in say Elden Ring or other open world maps with fast travel. But forcing the player to actually travel on foot does equate to knowing the locations. Someone could ask where a certain quest or item is in the original Dragon's Dogma and I could tell them exactly where it is. But Elden Ring would be the exact opposite and I would have to look up a guide, despite playing it multiple times.
@rasamasala8 ай бұрын
@@paranoyd70 i definitely agree! This is another point to creating a more grounded traversal system. I think back to the difference between BoTW and ToTk. I felt BoTW works better in terms of exploration cause you had to manually get from point A to B and the only means were your glider (tied to stamina), walking/climbing, and horse back (you had to catch your own horse). And then you eventually earned your fast travel. With ToTk, while they had a really cool crafting system with ultrahand and the zonai builds were absolutely amazing, however, i found myself just flying to different places via the zonai device to each fast travel point and then just fast travelling everywhere--essentially just skipping the exploration entirely. It completely lost the "exploration" part of the game for me cause i could fly and it just became a checklist of tasks cause i could fast travel instantly. Atleast in Dragon's Dogma, by time i had unlocked the portcrystals, it was still a limited resource and i had to actually think about where i wanted to place the fast travel points (and sometimes trek there to retrieve the portcrystal) whenever i would run out of ferrystones.

The one save slot exists for a few reasons, 1 no save scumming (it's a singleplayer game so I don't think that should matter too much, but it sorta makes sense with the pawn system) 2 This series has New Game Plus where you can remake your character (and change class) every time you start a NG+ (a lot of games force you to use the same character/class each NG+). 3 They don't want you making multiple pawns, it clogs the system and if you could make multiple pawns you could in theory have a full team of custom pawns that you personally made instead of mixing with the other player/dev made pawns.
@domomonstero30778 ай бұрын
They could easily fix that without fucking their customers. 1 limit your pawns to 3. 2. Limit your saves to a playthrough. Meaning you can only have 1 save per character, but have multiple characters.
@krishnav51228 ай бұрын
They can still limit to fewer saves by using always the latest timed save for pawn upload. I think its just laziness. Save scumming isn't a valid thing because RPG players love to do that.

I know I’m in the minority here but I like the single save system. Provided the stat system isn’t broken like it was in the first game and playing a warrior doesn’t completely lock me out of trying a mage later on due to stat restrictions, single save forces me not to save scum, making everything I do in the game consequential. If I fail a quest because I decided to screw around I can’t just reload my save and do it over, I have to live with it. Doing an honor mode run on BG3 has taught me save scumming removes so many tense moments from the experience.

@@QRM00 exactly. Honor mode on BG3 made the game so much more enjoyable. @theunhappygamer1744 You can switch between all classes in the same playthrough. What do you mean? Also, people were expecting more vocations, because the first game had 9, and considering that 2 of DD2's 10 are just one of the DD1's 9 vocations split in 2, it feels like we're basically getting the same amount. Plus one of the 10 vocations is a jack-of-all-trades that doesn't really provide anything new, besides being all at once. Which makes it then feel like even less. Not to mention that there was so many options for vocations that were available in DD Online, yet they didn't take anything from that. (Really wish we got DDOnline's Strider & Alchemist..) Don't get me wrong though, I'm still incredibly hyped, but I hope that it turned out to be a mistranslation or something.

He also said that the game was running at native 4k with the average fps being around 35 and dropping in big fights, but he stressed again that this is a very old build that there playing on. So besides the point that all the gameplay we’ve seen is on a very old version of the game, the actually performance setting they were using were extremely high for a game at its current stage.
