Dragons Dogma is hands down one of my favorite capcom games ever. If this game had a co-op opinion it would easily be in my top 5 games of all time. The combat is fantastic, the story is a 7 out of 10. And the enemies are heavily influenced by D&D. Would love to see a part 2 on next generation consoles.

My personal honorable mention would be Asura's Wrath. When Asura defeated Vlitra, and everything seemed well, then all of a sudden the spider from Naraka decided to turn against you and it reveals that it was actually the god of that universe that was helping you out and advancing the plot. You literally had to buy an entire DLC pack, just to get the true ending.

When I was a little kid, I had an Nintendo DS that I would borrow from my older brother occasionally to play games on. I bought Final Fantasy III because I had heard it was a legendary series - on TV shows (G4 anyone?), in game books, and from my friends. I played the game for awhile, and got up to beat the Djinn. After finishing him off, for some reason I thought the game was over. I’m not sure why. Maybe I was naive, because I even distinctly remember thinking “that was a really short game”. I did some more exploring but couldn’t find anything else to do. So I put the game down for maybe 6 months to a year. It was always a disappointment for me every time I saw it, knowing I had spent my birthday money on something that ended so quickly. It was a good game and I enjoyed it, it was just short. After a few months, I heard one of my friends talking about the game. I chimed in and told him my disappointment and he seemed confused. “What do you mean short? I’m still playing and haven’t beaten it yet.” Come to find out I had completely missed a mountain range or something you have to fly over which led me to the next area of the story. From them on, I was hooked. Over the next year or so, I scoured the game and absolutely devoured it. It’s one of my fondest game memories and one of my favorite games of all time. The class changing, weapons, armor, spells, it was all enthralling to me. I’m glad my friends mentioned it. The game is pretty expansive and I never would have known otherwise. Thanks for reading.

One of my favorite fake out endings is actually the first one i experienced as well....Breakdown for the original Xbox. You play through the game being guided the whole time by this mysterious cat who seems to lead you through alternate dimensions to get through areas, which lead you to the final boss and you have the fight and it seems extremely unfair once it gets to his final phase. You fight through the final phase of the boss and get a scripted part where the game has you lose and the world gets nuked, which is the final countermeasure that you were trying to escape from (you go into an alternate world to defeat the boss and the alternate world gets nuked while you are still in it, not earth itself). The missile comes down and it has Game Over written on it and the boss says something cheeky, can't remember exactly what. The screen fades to black and I personally felt like i got the bad ending. Then you wake up and it turns out the entire time that you were in a capsule of sorts reliving memories to regain your powers, and that cat that led you through "alternate dimensions" was actually you sensing it in the real world, which caused a glitch in the system and the final bit of the first half was all a simulation, not memories. What happened was you were knocked into a coma at some point and that made you lose your memories and your powers so they put you into the capsule to regain them, in the meantime the world went into this post apocalyptic state nearly as the bad guys flood earth and take over. So now you play through the game WITH NO HUD ANYMORE and gain even more powers so you can go into the final boss and actually defeat him. The entire fight the boss makes remarks when you pass a phase that are along the lines of "Huh, seems like you saw that c=one coming." or "What's the matter, done this before?" as a way of him thinking you;re going to die. The end of the fight has you use what he used to defeat you the first time against him, then trek through a new area back outside. Once outside, you rush at the portal and get to a helicopter to get off of the island where the portal is so the can blast it out of existence. You see the island explode the cat that helped you is there with the scientist owner, but your girlfriend/companion gets sucked out after the blast and starts to fade because time is all fucked and thinks the her that died in the simulation was real, so she goes to yet another timeline. I thought you just had to have it happen and it was just a messed up ending, but wait theres more! You can walk out of the helicopter and be transferred with her for a secondary ending that seems to tease another game. Sadly, the second game was never made and never will be as the company that made it shut down, having Breakdown be their one hit wonder. I'm actually kinda surprised this game didn't get an honorable mention, but at the same time it was kinda an under-the-radar cult hit.

Dragon's Dogma is really cool how it handles the true ending. With every subsequent playthrough, your previous character actually becomes the final boss. It actually gives a purpose to the lore explanation of replacing them. There's also something about people on your friend's list becoming the final boss? I don't know exactly how it worked because I don't have friends, but I remember having to fight someone from my limited friends list as the final boss. I may be misremembering, it's been a while.

No, your character becomes the final boss after you beat the game once. And it keeps using the most recent clear data character as the final boss.

When I first played through Okami I was absolutely AMPED when I found out I still had a lot more game to play after Orochi. It was a nice surprise. To then face Ninetails and find out I had even MORE to do? Even better the second time.
@mistahanansi22642 жыл бұрын
I feel like Pokémon Gold and Silver should’ve made this list. Because it takes place in the Johto region, of which you end up exploring and “conquering”. However, after you beat the Elite Four, you find out that you can go to the Kanto region from Red and Blue! It’s literally a 2nd game built in 😆 And after beating THAT region’s Elite Four you explore EVEN MORE and eventually come face to face with the protagonist of the 1st Pokémon games himself, Red. And just like when he was the main character, he says nothing, just “…” which is his trademark cool silence. After you beat him, he still says nothing, THEN the game “ends”. Pokémon games don’t actually end, except for the story. Obviously the player can continue to challenge and re-challenge the Elite Four as well as explore, catch, train Pokémon, etc… But yeah, good shit.

you forgot Dragon Quest XI! you play for 40 hours, reaching a full party and reaching the sward of light. feels like ending? nope, everything goes to shit and you have to reassemble your party in a ruined world and forge a new sward, also the skill trees get bigger! 80 hours in, you defeat the big evil thing, credits roll, the game goes to black with "fin"... then it shows "to be continued", so ok, it's a bit extra going back in time to stop the evil from winning the first time? nope! new evil showed up, hope you ready for another 40 hours!

I don't always love it. I think a lot of games overstay their welcome. There's nothing worse than fighting what you think is a final boss in a game your really ready to be done with and... Surprise! There's a whole lot more to slog through. Ys VIII built up the Oceanus as the final boss, and once I beat it and the game just keeps going, I haven't felt like playing it since. Okami was another one I loved, but got burned out long before it finished.
@Lexyvil4 жыл бұрын
@@ressljs Can't say I've played Ys VIII but I see where you're coming from. I suppose in the end it really depends on many factors, like the quality of the writing and whether the gameplay loop still holds up late-game. Dragon Quest XI is an example of a game that has a fake ending that is a better stopping point than the true one, since the true continuation has a cheesier storyline.

@@henryrodgers7386 The Ni No Kuni that was released for PS3 is a remake of the original that was released for the DS only in Japan I refer to it as the Dark Djinn Ni No Kuni since the story originally ended when fighting Shadar, the White Witch and beyond is an expansion so to speak, so when you get to that point it feels like the game will end, if you liked the Revenant Kingdom you should try the HD version of the first game is one of my favorite JRPGs of all time, I got the plat twice PS3 and now PS4.

It's been a really long time since I actually played it, but from what I can remember, Tales of Legendia. You have this like whole thing, where you're infiltrating the enemy base, then you get to this final room... fight this... thing... And then the credits roll. And then the game continues. Like, it just... continues. You fight what has been presented as the final boss. You have LEGIT credits play. And then... it's just... not over. And then you have another half of the game that's just as long. That then has another final boss. And another set of credits. Like, Tales of games usually have true final bosses that require doing side-content and then coming back. But Legendia literally just has a new final boss, with a different ending, and a ton of legit story development during the lead up. And while some people consider it the post-game, it's not even remotely presented as such. It's just presented as "another part of the story".

There’s a fake out ending in Borderlands 3 where you think Lilith and couple other characters die (I can’t remember which others are there at the time), and then it just says that it will continue in Borderlands 4, then after it becomes a countdown and the game continues. The first time I got to this fake out ending my jaw dropped because I didn’t think so many characters would die in one game at one time. And that I would have to wait till the next game to see how things were going to play out. But then as the countdown continues and you realize that it was a fake out ending there’s a lot more to play to get to the real ending
