Just imagine a Bully game with the Concept of allowing the your M.C to be either in high school or better yet college level allowing the MC to drive motorized vehicles be a part of certain social groups having a cell phone going online like you could in GTA IV or GTA V bring up Pop Culture references talking about Memes or hashtags going to optional parties like they did in a very popular game called - life is strange. Just make a Bully game similar to a game like that minus the superpowers or Supernatural phenomenon

Lol my mom was the same, she´d be like "aight, play watchu want, but if my friends are coming over you gonna be well behaved to show their bratty kids I know how to educate". Her rule was if they brought their kids over I couldn´t play video games and had to go outside or play board games with them, if they didn´t, I only had to be in the couch pretending to read a book while they came in, got settled to start gossipping, and then could go down to the basement to play whatever I wanted.

@Bass Player gta is an open world where you can avoid pulling off mass shootings in the streets with over the top exploding cars and the police and army swarming within minutes, where you shoot helicopters out of the sky and blow up tanks. Also, GTA was also filled with humour and doesn’t take itself too seriously No Russian on the other hand puts you in a linear situation, where yes, you don’t have to shoot, but at the very least you have to sit through a mass shooting through a tight environment of an airport in first person which made it much more ‘intimate’. It also carried strong undertones of political terrorism, which quite simply wasn’t really seen before in a videogame in such a manner I too was unaware of the news at the time of playing. When I played it for the first time, I was confused at first, then it turned to shock when you realised what was happening, but by the end of the level (great plot/level twist) I was like fuck yeah that was awesome!! But also knew at that moment it was going to be a controversial moment particularly if you were Russian 😅 gta, never leaves you feeling those emotions
@torgranael
@torgranael Жыл бұрын
And to think we've basically got the same thing happening again. There's some SWAT game being developed where one of the levels was defusing a school shooting. Of course that obviously means promoting school shootings and was labelled a Columbine Simulator. I can't remember what happened to it. It either got blocked in most of the world, or Steam refused to host it so they pulled the plug.

Also knew nothing of the controversy when I played it for the first time. And yea for sure never forgetting that moment and the following day when I talked about it with my friends and was asked “so did you go along with it or did you just walk through and not shoot anyone?” And boy the GUILT I felt finding out you could choose NOT to do it and still finish the mission 😂.

glad to see Manhunt at #3 at least... cause that was a huge game-changer when it came out. I vividly remember playing it around age 18- sure other games have you killing monsters/ppl in mass amounts, but in Manhunt it just felt different using a wire to choke and/or decapitate a guy, or the hammer, and as mentioned the plastic bag... and all weapons had a few different fatality moves I think

That game is /seriously/ forgotten,these days & doesn't deserve to be... Shame we never got another Punisher game or even an HD-re-master. Which,I would GLADLY accept over a new game,actually... I would think it would be the EASIEST game to make modern! It's the most-basic concept in gaming,"guy w/ guns/other weapons,gets revenge by killing the bad guys". Seriously,it must be stupid licensing-reasons holding it up. Otherwise,WTF is keeping it from coming-back?? Anyways,glad U brought it up. "Spezial Interrogations" was 1 of the 1st YT-vids of the game I ever saw & I remember it showing EVERY kill,w/ a heavy/industrial metal song,playing in the BG(it was "hardcore",for early YT)... It was probably 1 of the 1st vids posted about that game,in general & I always recall that awesome vid(helps I saved it & watched last year at some point). Sadly,it was only in StandardDef,like 480p. & looks nearly to be rendered in pixels! Also,unfortunately,I'm pretty-sure it's long gone,by now. But,if it came-back,maybe it could be up-scaled somehow,using modern-tech?? Anyway,just bringing it up,in case any1 else recalls the vid/uploader of it. Or,has a better-copy,that could be posted,someday... ;) -Peace

I remember playing No Russian for the first time, and while certainly shocking, was the moment I knew the story was going to be great. The fact that the developers added a level that could essentially force a moral quandary in the player, while also giving the player a heart-rending reason to absolutely loathe the primary antagonist is truly indicative of a well crafted story experience, in my opinion

My only problem with No Russian was I was too young when I played it. Not too young as in it would corrupt my young mind and turn me into a psychopath, but as in I was too young to understand the story and what I was doing. I played MW2 and loved the gameplay but that mission in my 11 year old mind was just “yay cause mayhem.” I feel like it would be much more interesting to experience it for the first time now that I have more perspective on the world. It's normal to discover that old games look like crap. Your brain doesn't really "remember" the past, it keeps a mathematical construct of it. So when it reconstructs, it uses whatever remains from back then - positions of people, general clothing, etc. An example - if you try to remember how the soldiers in Prototype look, you would almost certainly remember them with the wrong uniform, as your brain will just toss in the best thing it can come up with to fill in the natural gaps in the memory. Those are always there, as the brain tosses away uninteresting things like small details that are not pivotal to the memory. You can remember the soldiers using M4, but which M4 model from all the games you've seen it would be? Noone knows. It's kinda fun, as it points out just how little we actually care about the graphics in the long run.

I think the No Russian level works as a storytelling device pretty well actually. I think it does a good job of emphasizing the moral price that an undercover agent has to pay in order to not blow their cover. Postal 2 at the time was definitely not 'boring'. It was quite fun and the multiplayer was ok too. It should be higher though on the list. It was way more gruesome than most games on the list. You could light people on fire, then piss them out while they're entire skin would be fire wounds. They'd be crawling away on the floor until they passed out and died. It was banned in my country, Netherlands, which made a lot of sense.

Regarding Bully, the game has a lot of social commentary about both Public and Private schools in the Western World, yes not just the USA, as well as how we deal with the bullying problem over the decades, how Adults perceive adolescents and how adolescents view authority figures in general, and how each young individual sees themselves in the world. Also, yes gameranx, you guys should definitely should do a retrospective on the game or something.

I wasn't expecting such a wholesome comment here, but that's a good idea nonetheless. Whenever I'm in a mood like that, I go for Audiosurf. Recent gems include Dorfromantik & Cloud Gardens (by the same developer). If you can't sleep, try Mountain (not much in the way of gameplay going on there) or Flower. The old Simcity games could be pretty soothing. What Remains of Edith Finch is awesome for its atmosphere & story. Blind Eyes is intriguing and well presented, but not for everybody. Driving around in one of the Train & Truck sims can be nice, just like tinkering with SimplePlanes, but these technically do require some base knowledge & actions.

What bugs me the most is that here in Germany, if there's a controversial game, they sometimes release a special "low violence" version of it. And that's it. No, you do not get to choose. No, there are not two versions of the game - one for under and one for over 18. So they basically cut my right to play the game as intended because of "youth protection".... silly enough: they sometimes slap an "USK ab 18" (Germanys version of the M rating) on it anyways. It just defies logic.
@verrueckteriwan
@verrueckteriwan Жыл бұрын
not only controversial games, but games "someone" saw inappropriate for... , well, german adults? Even games like Left 4 Dead, Killing Floor, or even Team Fortress 2 had cut german versions, Call of Duty: world at war was missing the whole zombie mode in the german version, Dead Island and Dying light couldnt be bought in Germany, same goes for Dead Rising. the worst part is: these were the "good old days", now you cant even view or buy the "controversial" games anymore, if you look at steam you cant even view "adult" games on steam, but ads for gambling sites that are for 18+ only can run all day in TV. I really hate the hypocrisy here in germany...
