At least in Anderson’s script Chris was S.T.A.R.S and wasn’t romantically involved with Jill. Chris was a completely different character in Romero’s script with awful, cringing dialog . Romero Resident Evil script was just as bad as Anderson shitty scripts. If you ask me they should have kept Romero as director but hired a better writer or hired S.D. Perry who wrote the Resident Evil novels and they pretty good. She understood the source material better then Anderson and other writers did. Romero and S.D. Perry who have hit the ball out of the park.

@ourworlds atwar Hmm, you're right. I can't believe I didn't come across that when I was researching this. Sounds like Eichinger thought that it was too violent and would get an X rating from the MPAA, they went back and forth between multiple drafts but ultimately couldn't come to a compromise. Okamoto then made the "fired" statement at a later time. I agree, no idea why Romero made that decision about Chris's character. It doesn't even add anything of importance to the story.

Romero’s script wasn’t good? But his was apparently faithful to the game, so that tells me whoever commissioned the movie didn’t think much of the source material in the first place. I don’t hate the movie we got, but if you rename the virus (and the movie) it basically wouldn’t be copyright infringement because of how different that 2002 movie is from the game. Would’ve liked the movie more if it wasn’t using the RE name. Man I wanna see some studio pick up that original script and make it.

Romero, all the way... He was obviously following the games and definitely making it for the fans of RE, Paul Anderson's movies are good, but in their own way, they should've been called something else, even Biohazard, and let Romero make the actual RE films. They cudve had him take that script, and break it up, then fill in the gaps, if they were so worried about it not allowing them to make a sequel. They really fucked up.

I actually like Anderson's first Resident Evil film. It's very well put together. Good atmosphere, claustrophobic setting, music and practical effects. The sequels? Not so much... I also read Romero's script a while ago. It was okay. It had some pretty funny dialogue which I wasn't expecting. Not sure how Capcom thought it was bad considering the script for their games is worse. lol.

After watching a table read of the Ramero script I have to say it is not that good either. This coming from a guy who loves all of the Romero films even the last few he did which were not that good. He didn't just take a few liberties he took all the liberties and some of it just came off creepy.

Is that the Game Informer one? I've been meaning to check that out. It's worth noting that the script that's out there is a first draft. Some of the dialogue definitely needs some work, but I think a lot of the issues could have probably been worked out with rewrites.

I was not a fan of Paul W.S. Anderson films I always said if u took all 6 films of Anderson and took the 1st 6 seasons of the walking dead and show them to about 10 people who never seen the walking dead or the resident evil films I am pretty sure more would like the walking dead then the resident evil films. And I personally hated Leon S. Kennedy in the 5th film it was trash I mean hell Leon was better in RE6 and Resident Evil: Damnation then he was in the 5th film. I watched the re movies, 1st was halfway decent. And they are watchable, for what they are. But they should NOT have been called "resident evil" movies. They should have just changed the name and it would be no big deal. But the movies completely shat on the original 2 games, which were the only actual great games, up until the last game came out. And possibly village. All the other games, just like the movies were terrible corny jokes. Really hoping the new Netflix series and other movie goes back to what made Resident Evil 1 and 2 so great and scary as hell. RE 1,was the entire reason I begged to get a ps1 when it came out.
