@@vekazu_is_great_guy They use a special APU, sometimes described as an SoC, for the PS5. It's pretty much the same story for the XBOX Series X. I'm sure there are differences as these are tailor made by AMD for these consoles. Mobile versions of these have never been released, in part due to the high (for mobile) power requirements. I suppose they'd eat into GPU sales if they were were released for desktops. Though, the current version remains on Zen 2 for the CPU architecture. A Zen 4 version would be nice, with RDN 3.5. ANy of you who are old enough to remember when GPU's were integrated to the motherboard? Nvidia Nforce? If I recall that was the southbridge chipset...where the northbridge catered for RAM usb etc.
@herobrinecyberdemon8104
@herobrinecyberdemon8104 2 ай бұрын
That was simply the evolution of iGPUs before the northbridge got integrated in the CPU. There's a difference between iGPU and dGPU. iGPUs don't have their own memory bus and were constrained by the memory controller of the chipset (or CPU for K8 to K10 AMD CPUs), while dGPUs have their own memory bus and memory, even if there were always low-end cards that were really barely better than ATI integrated graphics - intel's integrated graphics were absolute crap before they integrated the northbridge in the CPU aka the first gen core CPU, as they updated their graphics architecture to be finally able to cover generic media operating tasks the need of bottom range GPUs fell off, that's why AMD isn't selling such anymore, plus the fact AMD was already releasing APUs with decent capabilities. Now the Strix Halo is a chip that is worthy of being considered a replacement of more budget oriented CPUs as this thing has a massive size - we've never had APUs with such GPU proportions, what's left for intel styled integrated graphics that are meant for generic tasks. Now the memory bus is still shared, but 256 bit bus - the 7600 has a 128bit bus, the 6700XT has a 192bit one. Now the memory will be slower and shared for both CPU and GPU - so the overall performance slightly so, it's meant for notebooks after all - but that still gives it serious capabilities. Now to break some illusions - it will be quite expensive simply because a chip of such size + the needed system that would likely feature quad channel memory design will demand resources and be more bulky aswell. Still this should be way more flexible than existing solutions, another go for AMD to push Nvidia and intel out of their mobile/embedded market as the latter can't offer such combined solutions. Still we are about to see the usual "rebates" by the traditional monopolists to retain their spot in the market and not allow AMD to return their investments.

@@PremiereGameplay4K Nvidia would have kept selling chipsets if intel didn't integrate the northbridge in the CPU and in the meantime breaking the compatibility their previous otherwise archaic designs had regarding platform flexibility. That was the end for Nvidia chipsets and integrated graphics - AMD kept the northbridge for AM3+ so an Nvidia chipset would've been possible, but demand for Nvidia chipsets was mostly on the intel front, knowing intel doesn't make crappy CPUs only. Intel silently damaged Nvidia back then, though it's interesting how those two monopolists would play it now, knowing Nvidia is the only major chip company in the US that didn't fall into losses cause of the crashing of the chip market. Nvidia still stands cause of the monopoly they've established in AI, however Intel has been loyal to the White House for awhile and they should receive more favor cause of it.

Exactly my thoughts, but the leaked benchmarks, if true, are full fps video game scenarios, not just math equations. I imagine to achieve these results some expensive system ram will be needed. It's perfect for someone like myself who is a casual gamer. I don't want an external graphics card. I want a system that works for indy games now, and then 5-15 years later it gets reused into a media center PC giving it a 30+ year lifespan. A computer that I can use for most of my life without any downsides. That's an amazing value proposition. The last time we had value like that was the Sandy Bridge 2nd i-series CPUs and the Nvidia 10 series. Once every decade or so a really good deal appears, as long as it doesn't cost an arm and a leg.

Depends. The cost of moving data between RAM and VRAM is lower when VRAM is where the RAM is, and if those chips use unified memory (meaning CPU and GPU access the same memory directly, with no need to move anything anywhere at all) then it could be a serious performance booster. When they can pull off 4080 perfomance on just an APU, I'll fully upgrade my system I can already see it: newer PCs are gonna be shipping with just APUs and AIOs, SUPER CLEAN setups with AAA+ performance Only a matter of time

That's exactly what I'm thinking. I just upgraded to a 6900xt from a 6700xt. Once they beat out that. I'd totally do a full rebuild into a mini PC with water cooling. Much cleaner and more desk space!! I think a build in something like ther thermaltake tower mini would be cool with an APU like that.

This one of the reason why I am looking forward for a power an APU with at least 60cu's, because I can tell it's potential if it has X3D technology on it, I believe there were People who benchmark one ryzen X3D processor with integrated GPU that had boosted the GPU performance so much with X3D. The good thing with this platform is that you don't need those monster GPU cards that could cramped up your CPU Case, you only need a good Water cooler for the Processor, then your good.

Intel states TDP is not the maximum power processor can dissipate. It is an information for CPU cooler makers to know, how to design a cooler adequate for chips, considering their actual power draw, but also things like surface area or core distribution on the die. Also, those are not intended for mainstream use anyways. Those are server CPUs, where perf/W is actually key metric. Hence if they bring enough performance to justify crazy power draw, that's more than worth it.

So, if Strix Halo comes with a full 16 cores & decent clocks, then what's my case for buying a GPU? I'm not a gamer. I have an old i7 6700 + GTX-750-Ti. Under Linux. If a the Strix can match or better the performance of this decade old GPU and run a pair of 1080 monitors, under Linux, as well as or better than the old nVidia junk, then I simply don't have to buy a GPU. I might have to do a bit of careful shopping for video cables that would suit, though ... but that's still going to be a whole lot cheaper than buying a low end RDNA card.

Flexispot or other manufacturers _need_ to start making copper-topped, glass-topped, or stainless steel layered desks. Eventually, these wooden desks crack, corrode, and then house microorganisms. If the work-at-home era didn't compel corporations to design desks with more resilient materials, what will?

If that APU performance matches a RTX 4070m laptop gpu's performance you can begin to imagine how much thinner and lighter amd laptops in the future can be going forward. There won't even be a need for a external gpu if you are getting that much performance from the apu.

The TDP was written - it can boost above the point at which some smaller notebook systems are rated. Still with everything in placed in one chip package made by a single manufacturer with the power optimizing features all working cause this is the best scenario for them it should be able to offer more flexibility to notebook designers, there should be a noticeable drop in price for the comparable performance too even if you consider the fact that this is a 9945HX with a massive iGPU.

fake or clickbait title. there is no ryzen integrated graphics able to overtake any rtx 4000 series gpu that exist. even "rumors" of parts coming in the "future" just barely have it matching 1 or 2 of the lowest cards, and are from sources that are known to either be wrong or purposely inflate, or claims made from a source based on very specific things that end up not reflecting reality which will just annoy people when they realize it. at best one could say "future integrated graphics from amd could potentially eventually surpass a rtx 4000 series card one day", but really, everybody already knows this and is only a matter of time, just a question of when...
